I was sick for five years before I filed for disability, I was too proud and determined to get well. When I finally admitted I could not work due to severe pain and fatigue I filed. It took me three years to win my case. Luckily I found a lawyer to help me, I paid her nothing unless she won the case, she was paid directly by social security out of my settlement. It was the best decision I ever made, at the same time I won my disability case my husband decided my health was too big of a burden on him and he left me. I was devastated to say the least, but I am so grateful to have disability to help me keep my dignity and not be homeless. The lawyer took care of everything, and I never went to court she took care of it. I just hope these threats by our government to stop paying disabilty and social security don't happen, or there will be homeless sick people everywhere and that would be awful. I worked in marketing before I got sick and I loved it. I wish I could work and have a career to be proud of, but I have found joy in my life and learned to appreciate the smaller things and the relationships in my life are what I value most. Wow I am just trying to cut my days back to 4 on and 3 off from which I was working 7 days straight 12 hours. I work laboratory and it is getting hard to concentrate too. I am 49 and I too am thinking ahead and looking for something less stressful. I know it is tough to get disability but from the responses there are choices out there. I was unemployed when I was diagnosed. I started work back in February and am struggling. I am 39 and work at a desk job, but since it is high profile, the fibro fog really impedes me. I am not sure what I am going to do, but if anyone has any CA disability recommendations, I am willing to listen.
