I would love to know of any legume recipes if you have any.Perhaps you could post some ideas for me/us.
I like lentils and beans and use them but not enough. Need more inspiring ideas.
You are inspiring me to get back on the "Clean up my diet". Wagon.
I think I will print out your testimony to give to my family doctor. IF you are ok with that.
My bad cholesterol number is just over 200.And good cholesterol is not high enough. I don't have the sheet of results paper at hand.
But my doctor said that diet alone isn't going to do much and he prescribed me Lipitor. Which by the way I have not filled the prescription for because I am leery of taking any more medications.
I have been more conscious of fat intake but haven't gone as strict as yourself. I have been eating more apples. I like Honey Crisp apples. One a day. I read that apples can help lower the bad cholesterol.
Thank you so much for sharing your post. It really has encouraged me because those words of my doctor have kinda stuck in my head and I have been thinking that perhaps he's right that diet won't do much and it's genetics and aging that's not in my favor.
its so funny you mention Honeycrisp apples....I eat at least one of those a day!! I also like Granny Smith, cut in and put in my steel-cut oatmeal for breakfast.
Yea, please do share with the doc anything you'd like...I'm super stoked that this really has worked. I do need to get my HCL up....it is low at 39, and needs to be over 50....best way to do that is adding the exercise, which I start tomorrow :)
I'm just starting with recipes....so far, I'm just using the Eat to Live book, and Fork over Knives....
HUGS from down south :)
My diet has been vegetarian for 30 years. I used to be very big on exercising, but thanks to fibro all that's changed. I've had both high blood pressure and high cholesterol since being a kid.
I blame my parents for all of it.
I am determined now that Ii have the disability income & SNAP benefits that we are both going to start eating healthier. It will be a lot easier when we can finally get into a place of our own. The neighborhood where the apt we want is nice & good streets to walk on, so hoping I get more exercise too!
I want to try more whole foods & gluten-free foods. We have been trying to watch our diets better even tho staying with family makes it more difficult lol, so hoping the change to healthier foods will be easier. My son has already gone down a pant size, but he is able to exercise some. Me, not so much lately.
Reading your post & some of the others does give me hope & encouragement.
*soft hugs*
Kathy
