I operate like a GPS all day long. Constantly re evaluating my plans. If one thing is above my skill set at the moment, I might have a more reasonable alternative. Or, I might take a breather and then try again. Generally, my cutoff time is about 5PM. I may lie down for quiet time before dinner. It depends on pain and fatigue.
As far as working goes it became apparent that my health issues far outweighed my ability to maintain a work schedule. I needed to spend my time figuring out how to live with this beast, get a medication regimen that worked and retool my head to accept my limitations. You know, you can work again part time after being approved for disability. Maybe take a break, get your medical house in order and try again.
I am by nature a very stubborn person. I don't dwell on my pain level unless it's crazy. I have a mental compartment that it goes into and it lives there - Pandoras box. I try to go about my business on a daily basis and just do the best that I can.
Saying no is healthy and necessary. Witness my fight with my family last week about sleeping over at Moms. I stay in my lane and do what I can do not what is expected.
Anything that I get done is an accomplishment to be celebrated. Doesn't matter if it is trite. I did it and I will fight on another day.
When I'm being smart, LOL, I take a lot of breaks, lots of little moments of "stop, close my eyes, breathe to relax/calm" using a breathing technique. And, frankly, I let myself feel irritated and go all teary-eyed. Like "Designated Self-Pity Time"!
And much of what Fantod said, duh!
My symptoms made it impossible to keep a schedule, so I fell out of work 11 yrs ago and ended up on disability. I also agree that I'm constantly evaluating my pain and fatigue over the course of the day, and if the rest of my to-do list should be rescheduled for another day, then so be it.
On most days I can't get out of the house before noon... and my cut off is around 4 pm. So I usually have a window right in the middle of the day if I need to leave the house and be somewhere OR do chores around the house. But that's IF I'm not having any flare of some sort (fibro / IBS / migraine). Otherwise, if it doesn't require much energy (eg. my school work) I can usually sit / lay around and do it without leaving the couch or bed.
