I would have to say that for the first several years my husband would "forget" that I have Fibromyalgia...depression goes along with it and he would ask me "why are you depressed"...but the absolute worst one for me was when the doctor I was going to at the time told me that there was no such thing as Fibromyalgia.. He was the same doctor that I asked to send me for an MRI because my back hurt me so bad...his comment was "I've never seen anyone's back cured by an MRI"...so needless to say, he isn't my doctor these days. In fact he lost a lot of his practice and has since moved away.

I too have struggled for years with my partner "forgetting" I had fibro and asking why I'm depressed. But the worst was when I asked my gp if he believed in the diagnosis Mayo clinic gave me, myofacial pain syndrome and fibro. His responce was "it happens" as he walked out of the room. I felt like I had been slapped in the face! I still see this doctor when I am desperate. I don't know where else to go, I live in a small town and can't afford to go to the specialists anymore. None of them have helped me anyway!

My favorites are:
What's wrong? and You need to go to the doctor and I have also been told to get antibiotics.

"It's called validictor's syndrome, it will go away when you stop trying to be perfect." - a doctor who should be one.

"You need to go to church."

"I don't mean to be personal, but everyone I know who has that has f**ked up families. WHat's wrong with yours?"

"Yea my (fill in the blank) has that too. She just has (fill in the blank sympton which is NOT Fibro) so I dunno why your like that."

"Oh sh*t! SO do I have mono or what? cuz' I don't want to get f***ed up like you are, I mean your REALLY f***ed!"
That last one is my now EX boyfriend.

Sorry that should read a doctor that SHOULD NOT be one.

My sister, who is 7 years older, never come cose to an injury, much less chronic pain "Ooh, i know how you feel" when she sees me trying to get out of a chair after 5 minutes of sitting.
the numerous people who tell me to quit smoking, and my best one, a just FMthought/belief shared by every single nurse i have ever known ( I am a nurse, so that's a lot):
"So and so wants pain medicine. He/she can't be hurting too much, they just went down to smoke" - and so she/he is made to wait for their pain meds. That goes for any type of pain, not just FM.
It infuriates me!

TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT THE PAIN, HELLO HOW CAN U NOT IT IS THERE 24/7

I haven't done a lot of talking on here but I had to respond to this one. I had a co-worker (who I think is addicted to pain killers) say to me the following "you know a lot people say that they have fibromyalgia only so they can get the good drugs, like oxycotin." Do you have any!!!!!!

You know, our families have such a hard time with this...never knowing quite what to say...and let's face it, this disease does not give us a LOT of action through the day, so our conversation topics are much more limited....Frank says to me yesterday,"so, what did you do today? Get any laundry done, or anything?"....It took my time, but I acted, instead of react, and thought about it before responding...My first impulse was to grab him by the *&^*&^'s, and say something defensive, or smart ass, but instead, i said, Oh, i wish may day was that fun...I only blah, blah, yada...and i turned into a REAL conversation...In his defense, think about it, I measure my good days to housework accomplished, etc.. and he was really just testing the waters to see how i was feeling....dumb words, kind heart....

My most hated statements/comments: "you sure don't look sick", By doctors: "Are you depressed?" , "How was your childhood?", "Are you a type 1 personality?" By my EX husband, "Why are you such a hypochondriac?" "You just are looking for a pity party." "If you would lose some weight, it wouldn't hurt to walk." (See part of the reason he is an EX husband??!!)

My dad always says that "all I need is some fresh air" - yeah right.

Some of his other famous lines are,
"you just have to push through"
"I can't believe you are so sick...you look pretty healthy to me"
"You don't hurt half as bad as I do"
"just wait until you are older then you will know pain"

He is good with those kick you in the gut statements.

My mom told me today tat she is gonna start calling me Ellen. This is one of my mom's friends that is a true hyperchondriac. If you have something, she will have it and it will be worse than yours within days. When she found out I had Fibro. She swore up and down that she had it and caught it from me.

My husband has even said, "Well, you must not believe in God." What kind of statement is that? I know he's frustrated with me, but really, who is he to judge me like that?

You are all ways tired, you did it yesterday, My fav/ you take to many pills, when in three days i tried only two a day of course just for the pain. Your right if they only new how it felt, but i would not wish this on anyone

Why don't you see a doctor that will make you well!

Where to start?!? I think the all time stupidest was when my husband said, "well, I don't feel great all the time, either. You need to suck it up!" My response? "Tell you what - let's trade. YOU can be the one to feel like s**t all the time, and I'LL be the one who stands around and bitch about it."

Another husband classic - "You *never* feel good - you are making this so hard for me!" Um, yeah...cause it's all about you, right, dear?!? Sheesh.
