I need to lose weight, but I have difficulties with exercise because of the pains.

Find a pool nearby that offers a water aerobics class specifically for arthritics. Being in the pool takes weight off of all of your joints making it easier to move. Check with your doctor and see if they would be willing to sign you up for this type of class through a PT facility as another option. Good luck!

If swimming is not possible, try walking. Pain can make exercising challenging. Start with different things as simple as stretching very slowly and see how your body reacts. Always do things slow and moderate.... which is not advice I find hard to follow for myself.

I am a personal trainer. I am trying to figure out what I can do to exercise myself. So far, I have figured out: I can't do the same stuff back to back. So, if today I do stretching I can't do stretching again for 2 days. I can do more difficult exercise as long as I do it for less time. I can do stretching for 20 minutes, but I can only do weights for 10 minutes. I have to be sure to have a break after exercise. No matter what I do, I can't just go train a client immediately after. Some days I can do pilates EASILY, other days I start doing the exact same thing and can't do more than 20 seconds. No pattern to why. So, what I am doing is I figured out some different things I enjoy (I like using a rower, I dislike walking on a treadmill, for example) and I just mix it all up. 10 minutes today, 20 minutes tomorrow, 15 minutes the next day, 0 minutes the next. One day all cardio, the next only stretching, the third day only seated free weights.

Being in water feels great for fibro. I also do isometric exercise. Very low impact. Feels good to use my muscles gently. Prayers to you for painfree holidays!
