As the title of this post suggests, we're getting rain and wind. Since we're still very much in a drought the rain is actually pretty welcome, but I wish it would happen overnight or when I'm working all day. And I'm sure we can all agree, I wish it didn't increase our pain. But apparently it's supposed to clear up a little this afternoon, and I did get the whole day off so at least walking Miki won't be so miserable. I'm off today for the funeral of my great aunt on my dad's side...obviously it's going to be sad but at least she did have the best possible life. She just turned 91 and had no major problems, was cognitively normal, and she spent the past several months in quarantine with her sisters, basically just hanging out and having a good time. Then she went to sleep and just didn't wake up. Which is, in my opinion, the best possible way-no suffering. After that I need to run to the grocery store, then I'll come home and maybe nap, then get some comission work done. And luckily I'm still off tomorrow. I figured I'd try to do a better check in today, closer to what Leo thoughtfully creates for us, so I looked up some strange weather facts:
Apparently you can tell the temperature by how often crickets chirp (don't ask me how lol)
Watersprouts (essentially a tornado that moves over a body of water) can make sea creatures "rain" from the sky. Which sounds kinda horrifying.
Weathervanes traditionally have roosters on them because in the 9th century, Pope Nicholas decided churches should display the rooster on their steeples as a symbol of Peter's betrayal of Jesus. Why roosters? Your guess is as good as mine
Thunder doesn't follow lightning, lightning causes thunder by slicing through the air pressure-the sound is made by the air pressure rushing back together when the lightning retracts
In 1684 the River Thames in London froze solid for 2 whole months
Lightning does, in fact, strike the same place twice. Usually if that place is a tall, isolated object; the Empire State Building is struck by lightning roughly 23 times per year
It rained "blood" in India for about 3 months. From July to September 2001 they had sporadic, heavy downpours in Kerala (a state in the south of India) that were red in color. They originally thought it was from a meteor burst but it turned out that the rain was colored by airborne spores. This sounds more horrifying than the fish, actually

I had a rough night. Whirring brain set in the minute that I went to bed. And, due to a weather change (rain) my back started up too. I get sharp pain/nerve pain in short spurts that makes it difficult to find a comfortable position. I was still up after 3 AM.
The pool had a slight alteration to the support plan yesterday. We had a small amount of rain that gave an indication where there might be a flaw in my partners plan. After he made that change, I helped him pull the heavy tarp up and onto it. It is all staked down now and looks like a giant space ship out there. I keep waiting for Klaatu from the movie The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951 original version) to wander out and say Hi.
Debating my plans for today. The outside freezer needs to be emptied and hosed out to get rid of frost. I'd love to replace it for that reason alone. The freezer is a commercial unit. I looked up the model and a new one is $1500.
I'm going to see if my partner still has his local restaurant supply house discount card from the cafe. We might be able to get a better deal that way.
I'd prefer a commercial unit because they are built to last. It's attached to a dolly so moving it is easy. It is the emptying part that I might have a problem with. I will see how my back does after meds and go from there.
Other than that it is the usual stuff - laundry working right now. Some tidying up and getting the trash organized and out to the curb. My partner is working until 6 today. The rest of the week, he goes in for 5:30 AM and will be home around 3.

We are going to have thunderstorms and small hail along with some wind tonight. I’m really glad that the pool and ladder are al set for bad weather. We will know soon enough how the new support system works...or not....
My partner came home early today because he finished everything that he needed to do early.
