Well, it's raining here, yay! Back home, it's so floody that even my family said, "Um, no," and decided to stay home till the bridge is cleared.

It's a record-slow year so far for hurricanes in the Atlantic, or near-record, but there's a cooling event in the Atlantic... and a cat5 Pacific Hurricane off the SW coast of Mexico. El Nino, La Nina, whatever you call it, dont' get caught in between.
So what makes ocean currents?
Brace yourselves.
The deep ones =--- more than, say 500 meters/yards deep --- are usually due to water density changes. What? Huh? Goes like this. Water freezes at the poles. Salt is left behind. Salty water is more dense (test this at home by dyeing some salted water and pouring it into a clear bowl/glass of cold water). Salty water sinks. This displaces other water out of the way. Water moves. CUrrent!
Most currents, hwoever, form due to the usual suspects: Wind, globe's rotation, and ye olde continents in the way. When Central America formed, it knocked out a powerful tropical current that went from Atlantic to Pacific and kept the Atlantic less salty and warmer. Without a barrier, currents didn't veer. They just meandered back and forth and everything was warmer, wilder, and not what we know today.
THen, when the last of the mountains and lands between North and South America formed... massive disruption of ocean currents, for obvious reasons. Big fat continental stuff in the way!
Interestingly, this time coincides with marine super-big-lifeforms going extinct, and the start of the ice ages.

I woke up at 2 am again with a big stye on the inside corner of my eye. If it didn't hurt to close my eye, I would have been able to go back to sleep, but nope. I'm exhausted and I'm playing solitaire on my phone to try to stay awake. Need to warm compress my eye again soon. I guess it can take a few months for side effects from a new birth control to subside, but usually it's worse in the first month. I sincerely hope that means it'll get better after this week because this is getting really hard to deal with...meanwhile Karen is sick and I almost snapped at her to stop moaning constantly or leave -_-. She has a cold, but you'd have thought she was actively dying. Kill me now..
Then, I drove across town to sign a document for my helper. I haven't seen him in a bit. We are going to get together for lunch as soon as I have a gap in my schedule. Maybe next week.
