Then-POTUS US Grant decided to release gold, which forced prices back down, but had knock-on effects that included crop prices plummeting --- hurting a largely agrarian America. BUT long-term, the move by Grant's admin actually stabilized matters for a few years (till the crunch of 1873...) and Grant was exonerated of wrongdoing b/c his idiot brother-in-law got involved in all this somehow.

I said, "Oh, the stuff bad for kidneys?" and stomped out as best I could. "It's just a little grit" feels like "someone took an axe to me", so if you've ever had a measurable stone, you have my heartfelt sympathies.

I'm not off to a good start today. My eye feels a little better, although at a glance it still looks like I got punched. But after I went running this morning, my permanent crown came off while I was eating breakfast. Problem is I didn't realize it right away and most likely it's in my small intestine right now. It's a bit concerning that it came off after only 2 months. I called my dentist and made an appointment, but their first opening was Wednesday, so I'm stuck with my insanely sensitive tooth for a week. I'm not sure what I'm going to do...I can't afford to pay for another crown right now and if I'm being honest, I'm not sure it's worth it. It took longer to save the money for the crown than I had it on. And because my tooth was so worn down to begin with, there's not a lot left for the permanent crown to adhere to and I will probably continue to have issues (I wish this was mentioned before I started the process, the first time I heard it was the appointment to put on the permanent crown...otherwise I don't know if I would have done it at all). Most likely I will end up having the tooth pulled, but either way I need to go in for the evaluation as a first step. I did mention to the receptionist that I want to discuss options as opposed to just getting another crown. And yes, I could find the crown in a day or 2 and clean it...but then do I really want that back in my mouth? And that wouldn't change the likelihood of having chronic issues keeping it attached. It sucks all around. But I have the same problems with the tooth on the other side, so at least I know I probably won't be doing a crown on that tooth now. I guess an implant is an option after an extraction but I'd have to see what the cost of that would be. It's in the back of my mouth so no one will see if it's missing. But yeah...it's frustrating to say the least. I did manage to take a nap after all this though, Karrick and Haco were both feeling really snuggly and it's cool enough that I briefly turned on my heat this morning. Now I need to take Miki for another walk and then go to the grocery store so I don't have as much to do before Leominster this weekend. I'd like to finish my woodburning piece this afternoon but I'll see how I feel after Aldi. I can also do that this weekend while it's raining.
I went to the warehouse club when I got back to get petrol and pick up a couple of things. Right when I got there the gas pumps started not acknowledging member cards. That got straightened out so I figured shopping would be OK. Not so much. The payment system was hinky so it took awhile to get checked out. It took two hours from start to finish to get there and back which is ridiculous. I would normally be about an hour trip.
Leo - I am sorry that you now have kidney grit. I bet if you were male the ER department would have given you an RX. Feel better soon.
Miki - I'm sorry about your crown coming off. Maybe the dentist should have put a peg in your tooth to help hold it in place? I hope that you can come to a reasonable resolution. Putting up with a sensitive tooth is horrible. Maybe call your doctor for a liquid antibiotic for that stye. Hang in there.
