OK, first off, saw a post on another group by a CL. Turns out the error messages and glitches are hitting DS staff too but they're getting the software geniuses on it to patch the problem. Here's hoping...
Meanwhile, yesterday was horrible. Mom's Appointment Marathon Day. She said, in front of a neurosurgeon, that I don't know what it's like to need meds and hurt and be tired.
I locked up. I came very near walking out of there but I didn't know how to get to where our car was.
I'd had no food in over six hours at that point, only water, and one freaking breath mint. We couldn't eat food in the waiting rooms at the hospital and such. Mom sunk her nails into my arm like a witch's claw into a horror movie victim, so I couldn't even bail to the lobby or anything to grab a granola bar. She kept me right by her. Other than her MRI, which was when we had breakfast, btw.
Yeah.
Today: WELLNESS.
Think of your own. OK? Just... I know we have responsibilities and families and all that. I know. But try to take 15 minutes for your own wellness. Going without breaks yesterday reminded me how often I am blessed to be able to take little ones otherwise, and I am paying with compound interest today. And today I have to go to the big post office to maila package. Yikes...

Recommended reading: "The Radium Girls" by Kate Moore. Good read on the glow-in-the-dark dial painters of a hundred years ago, and the way the docs and lawyers screwed 'em over. And how they fought. It's not very technical or medical, laid out as a narrative rather than a case study, so ti's easy to follow. Hint: Exposure to radium sucks.

In 1859 on this date, Nathan Ames patented the escalator. I find it interesting it took longer to patent a moving sidewalk/walkway than moving *stairs*. I can't confirm a patent date, but a moving walkway such as we see in airports? First seen in 1893, and at an airport at Dallas's Love Field in the 1950s. People realllllly hate stairs, I'm guessing.
Happy Birthday to Smokey the Bear, more or less created today in 1944 by the US Forest Service and Wartime Advertising Council. This was partly in response to the lac kof men to fight major wildfires, of course, but also just darn useful. Bears. Cuddly and scary all at once.

I have another book suggestion that a book club I am in read and we all enjoyed, "Rise of the Rocket Girls: The Women Who Propelled Us from Missles to the Moon to Mars" by Nathalia Holt. It's kind of a dense read due to the technical jargon in there and there are many "characters" because it's about many years of a particular work place, but over all very interesting and a true story!
I've had it happen to me. If I want a picture of me posted, I will do it myself. I've had to ask other people to remove pictures. Call me crazy but I don't like having my picture taken. And, I can be real particular about my privacy (stalker ex husband).
I'm sorry that this upset you so much. In this social media age, people just don't think sometimes.

Fantod it amazes me how many packages UPS loses. We have a package that has been missing for a month or more and they just keep saying we will find it. It pisses me off. Do you have ear plugs that you can wear to lessen the noise? I am very sensitive to sounds and do everything I can to avoid loud noises.
I got the new pillow covers for the sofa today and I love them. Soon my living room will have a whole new look. I was amazed that my partner let me choose everything as she usually wants something totally different and ugly lol. I only have a rug to pick out and to get everything in and then I am going to tackle the dining room. It only took me like 10 years to get her to let me do this. I am having to take it easy today. My right arm especially my elbow is screaming from pushing the coffee table into the hall. I don't have anything pressing so I will just lay low the rest of the day. I hope everyones evening is a quiet and restful one.
Today is this anniversary of my first wedding 31 years ago. The guy I married that day passed away 16 years ago after a gallant fight with leukemia. I got 15 years with him so this marks one year more without him than with. I'm okay. I also got a great kid, who recently turned 25& is my best friend. 6 years ago I fell in love again & I couldn't be happier with hubby two. I'm pretty damn lucky, but August 9th always makes me nostalgic.
So, I'm new here! And I've enjoyed reading through your posts & I can't wait to get to know you all better! Sorry about the trials you all are dealing with, I pray & send positive healing energy & warm, gentle hugs out into the universe directed towards your sweet souls as I read of your lives. I sound like a goofball, but so often all I can do is sit\lie here...thinking of others & believing it can create a positive effect makes me feel a little productive. And it brings me joy to read about your happinesses! I think I'm going to like it here!
Me, I was diagnosed with 'severe' fibro approx 8yrs ago. There are lots of other diagnoses that have come along over the years. But, sometimes, I think maybe 'fibromyalgia syndrome' is more like a collection of autoimmune disorders hitting at once and it just takes time to figure out what's what. I mean I've got about 6 more AI illnesses than that now. Anyway, I was asked to take medical leave from my dream career because I was having trouble doing my job. That was almost 9 years ago and I was forced to resign 3 months later.
I was a high school art teacher and you can't leave a classroom without a stable permanent teacher for very long.
And, yes, it was my dream job. I still miss it.
But oddly enough most of my current friends are former students. Lol :)
It's hard though, when you can't go much of anywhere & the only way you see people is for them to come to you. And I live kinda in the country, about an hour away from both cities. Fort Worth was my home & I really miss it. It's just as big city as Dallas is but everybody acts like they live in a small town! They treat you like they know you & you're just one of the townfolk!
