Life hacks:
Y'know how toothpaste tubes don't roll up and stay there? Use a mini-sized Chip Clip (for snack food bags), an dfold the tube, usin gthe clip to hold it in place. No more unexpected air bubbles of doom, and you know how much toothpaste you really have left. (Also, duh, squeezed from the bottom, as is proper ;-P )
Use leftover cream of tartar or baking powder to polish metal. B/c it's slightly acidic, you can use it with fair safety to polish stainless steel tableware, pots/pans, sinks, as a paste, and rinse with warm water. My mom used it to clean her white nurse shoes, too, but I never did think it worked.... Anyway, if you have expired cream of tartar or baking powder around, there you go. (Do not use on grout!)
A bay leaf in the storage bin with flour, pasta, sugar, and/or rice will not flavor the item in question, but can help keep food moths away. Keep the bay leaf on top. Or, like I do, tape it to the underside ofthe lid with a tiny bit of tape. Change out every 6-12 months as you feel necessary. (I use realllllly fresh ones so they last about a year for me. Dried-from-store maybe 6 months. Climate willing.)
Place uncooked rice in a pan, not even a drop of water, and shake it around till it's hot. Place in aluminum foil, fold up, and put a cloth around the "packet". YOu now have a no-microwave flexible rice heating pad!
If you don't have aloe vera handy, the goopy center of cucumbers is a quick substitute on sunburns or dry skin. I just spoon it out and slap it on, but some people will add stuff and do stuff. You can also use thin shavings of cucumber (use the peeler on the cucumber flesh) for a "skin mask". Slap 'em on, feel the love. Also nice on sunburn, or minor burns from the kitchen. And, duh, cold b/c they were in the fridge. Double bonus.
Where one bug goes, others will follow. And if you squish the bug? Yep. OThers wil still take that path. So wipe down with a bit of citrus-based (real lemon oil from a lemon) cleaner. Many bugs, like stinkbugs and ladybugs, do not go where lemon has been. Or you can just put lemon zest in a bottle of water, fridge it, shake it up, and use that. Whichever. Fresh lemon zest, btw. I know, so inconvenient.
Fruit or veg came in a mesh bag? Save the bag for a surface-safe scrubby. Or save several and rubber band them together, which is what I do.
Cut tomatoes last to help remove any lingering odor/etc. from other veg on your cutting board. Works well for thsoe of us who cut onoins, hot peppers, etc., and reallllly don't want that residue around.
Bought fish and it smells a bit like, well, fish? Soak in milk for an hour, and then rinse. THe milk really works wonders at removing the icky "fish" smell.

And, on that note, I'm gonna go ice my stubbed toe. And dream of sleep. And all that.
May your weekend be a good wind-down from the week!

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...
Leo, I hope you actually get some sleep too and your not just daydreaming about it. I know times are going to be tough for a while but I'm glad you are here for us and getting us started. We need you!
patti, that pains me to even think about but I hate the cold. LOL
Miki, I hope you feel better later and can relax w/o feeling your rushing.
Angela, I'm so glad your mom is home, and that she appreciated everything you did for her. And good job aunt for taking care of you. :-) I hope your blood sugars and pain get better today.
I'm about to go grocery shopping and then hopefully take my girls to the park before we do a lice check. I feel like I have a lot to do today. Last night was actually a nice dinner. I really like the chicken bacon ranch sandwich at Dairy Queen. I skipped the ranch though and had them use mayo, we grew up on mayo not ranch. The girls loved their blizzard, and I of course thought it was way too cold. haha I just can't handle cold anymore.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I will be reading but may not have time to reply back today.
Miki I hope with all you have to do this weekend you can find time to rest.
Angela I am glad your mom is home. I know it has been stressful for you. Hugs.
Twins it is the simple things that bring kids joy. I am glad they and you enjoyed the dinner.
I am in slow motion today. I listened to three relaxation tapes last night and did manage to doze a bit. It is sunny out for now and I am soaking it up.
I hope your weekend is beautiful.
I can't believe it's Saturday. I feel like I've been running around all week and this coming week will be 2x as busy.
The VA appt was a total waste of time. Got there, pulled a number, waited over an hour to talk them about the GI Bill... only for him to give me an 800 number!!! USELESS people! I had a premonition about it too and it came true exactly like that. But the trip to the VA wasn't all a waste..... there was the art show and I also went to fix my VA ID card that won't scan.
My painting did not win anything at the art show but an "Honorable Mention" ribbon? It was hideous looking sitting next to the 2nd and 3rd place acrylics category.... and the 3rd place, which looked like a child smeared paint on a small piece of paper, scored more points than my real art??? Someone please explain! LOL!!!! Anyway, a graphics designer was there and saw my painting and said it's marketable, I should do more. The other "art" there not marketable, but mine is. That made me feel better.
Had dinner with a couple of old friends afterwards. Their in-laws were in town with a group of friends so it was a big dinner... that dragged on and on for hours. OMG. But the conversations were mostly pleasant and it was nice to catch up with my friends again. Got home too late, too tired, and still had to throw some laundry in. I had accidentally used more clothing than planned and didn't have anything to wear on the flight home today.
I don't know if I will make it to the beach I had originally planned on going to today... it's all the way on the other side of the island. I may have to settle for one closer by, boo. But it is what it is if I have to pick up hubby and catch my plane.
Leo, I hope you are getting some rest.... and that your toe feels better soon too.
I like to use coffee clips for my toothpaste. lol
Miki, hope you get everything done. Good luck
Angela, yay for mom being home and your aunt helping out so you can get a break. Congrats on losing weight! I'm excited for you.
Twins, I'm glad you and the girls had a good time out. I can't eat ice cream, it hurts my mouth lol. My husband can eat a bucket of that stuff like it's nothing. And mayo? I'm one of those who avoid it all costs lol. Would have taken the ranch :). Enjoy the park. I hope you get some time to sit down with your feet up today.
Leo - I'm surprised that you have power. The East coast got slammed pretty well with that Noreaster. Sorry that your toe got stubbed. Ice and rest.
Miki - I hope that you get your loan closed on today. I hope that you can find some me time and relax.
AngelaJo - I'm so glad that your Mom is home and resting comfortably. Now it is time for you to try and take it easy emotionally and physically. You did your part and well I might add. Continued kudos for the weight loss! That is awesome and not easy to do. Have a decent day.
Twin - Ranch is a staple in the Midwest. Dipping french fries in ranch is pretty popular. I detest Mayo lol. I hope that you don't find anymore lice. And, that you can carve out some time for a Hallmark movie or something just for you. Hugs!
Hi Blue - I think that your painting was very good. And I give you a lot of props for having the energy and drive to do it in the first place. Give yourself credit for that at least. I hope that you do make it to the beach and that the trip home is uneventful.
Yesterday, my neighbors rotten trees dropped two big branches on the driveway. The snow storm that we got was comprised of very heavy wet stuff. My partner could not get out to go to work without dealing with them first. One branch was about 20 feet long and five inches in diameter and just missed his car. I took pictures. Time for another certified letter....
I'm getting a better organized kitchen today or tomorrow. I found a company that will build slide out drawers to order. I got two for a kitchen cabinet under the counter that is always a big mess. I have to sit on a low stool to see in it or get anything out. The drawers are made of birch and they are really nice. Not terribly expensive but the shipping was a bit steep. My partner is going to install them this weekend.
He is out at Menards and doing some grocery shopping while I play Cinderella. Very tired again today so I am not going to last long. I hope that everyone who follows is having a low pain day. Hugs!
Blue, "marketable" is often not seen as "art" by about half of people I know who talk "art". My stuff is either loved or despised!
Miki, good hopes you get things setttled.
Twin, I see mayo as this horrible "blob" from sci-fi movies, LOL!
Angela, glad you can get a bit of rest (hopefully).
I would love to respond to all of you, but this Tramadol has me so tired, I can barely keep my eyes open. I really don’t like this med, but it is helping the pain.
I got the taxes done! So glad for that.
Have a nice weekend, all.
OMG, a friend sent me a care package. Tea that is rumored to be anti-cancer for Hubby; chocolate for me.
So I share with you both the tea (OMG, it's fruit-blended so it tastes like dessert!) and the chocolates!
*showers Fibro board with goodies*
Leo - stubbed toe yikes. I hope you can get sleep instead of just reading about it.
Miki - Sorry your weekend is so busy.
Angela - I am glad your Mom is home. I need to lose weight , I have been eating better, but fall back into those comfort foods at times.
Twin - I hope the lice is gone. I am a ranch person, other sauces /dressings upset my stomach.
Autumn - Sunny here today too. I hope you can get more sleep . Have you seen a sleep Dr ?
Fantod - Yikes on the tree limbs. Can your city get your neighbors to take care of that tree? Slide out kitchen drawers are nice - my Mom and Grandparents had them on all the bottom drawers.
Ida - yay for getting your taxes done. I still have to finish mine and get them to the accountant. I hear you on the pain meds - but if they are helping .
Blue - I just looked at your photos of your painting. It is a wonderful painting. You did a great job. I have no talent in drawing/painting .
I will be back
Anyhow. Things could be worse, right? I have been watching way too much TV, Neflix, Amazon Prime - it entertains me while icing . My brain is going to mush.
Well, I am off to grab an ice bag. : (
I have stayed inside all day. I couldn't be bothered to go out in the cold. We got a lot of snow this week.
I knew I had to get up quickly this morning and get in the shower to make sure I could start my day. When I stay in my pj's I don't seem to get the motivation to do anything.
For the first time ever, the water pressure in the shower was hurting me. I had to change it to a mist instead of the usual spray. Does that happen to you as well?
My husband had a good laugh at me today. I think I dropped at least 4 different things. Better laugh than get angry every time my grip fails me!
We are moving next Saturday so I packed more stuff. I was able to do 5 boxes in the kitchen before giving up. It's frustrating, but I didn't push myself this time.
So I celebrate the little victories like this. :)
Your shower problem is called Allydonia. Many people have that issue and also find wearing certain types of clothing or anything that causes pressure against the skin uncomfortable. I would like togas to come back into fashion.
Pacing is key to living with this beast. You did really well to recognise when it was time to quit. I hate moving. Ive been in my house for almost eight years. The prospect of having to pack it up and move would give me nightmares lol.
I hope that you have a pleasant evening.
