Beware! My new laptop came with Windows11 and nothing has caught up to the bugs in it yet. The drama! The trauma! I came very near to saying, "OK, how far can I yeet this thing?"
Yeet: Already outdated slang from a couple years ago, meaning to fling, throw, hurl.
So now I get to wrangle angry hissy cats, I mean my mom and hubby, so...

Windows was developed originally by Bill Gates, who stole, ahem, "co-opted" the concept from his buddies. They were all working for the same company on the same issue in the 1980s: Graphical User Interfaces. While Gates and his crowd claim he didn't steal anything, his version of Windows 1? Was shockingly like Apple/Macintosh's. Bill's mommy knew people at IBM and he sold them the idea of "his" software.
Behind every great man stands a rich/connected parent?
We're now on Windows 11, but WIndows 8 stands as the most loathed, and Windows XP as the most loved. Apparently, the software guys forget most of us have LAPTOPS, not touch-screen tablets, so they designed Windows 8 for... well, an iPad clone. But who can do their job on that? You need a keyboard and number pad for darn near anything.
Of course, AI is predicted to take over all that, but given what I've seen of AI? I'm not worried about jobs. Worried about human stupidity, yes, but that's not new. The AI Copilot in Windows 11 tried to tell me how to write a sentence this morning. Its sentence was grammatically incorrect, undescriptive, and made a dictionary entry from the 1950s look like Pulitzer work. Dont' ask it to do your checking account balancing, either. Hubby did taht for fun with Excel's "AI beta" and it screwed up the math. Excel AI read the commas as decimel points. Yeah. BIG problem when you'uve got numbers like 1,000 and the spreadsheet demands or automatically formats for commas in numbers!
Also, I never met a computer yet that could wrangle animals or pick veggies or fix the toilet, so... Yeah. Lawyers may be in trouble, but computer programs only do as told. And programmers? Aren't any smarter than the rest of us! (Warning: This is probably how Skynet happened in The Terminator movies!)
meanwhile, I was reading a new book last night and it's the usual apocalypse junk, and I about died. These folks were taking the whole dang world to their bug out bunker. Um. Nuclear war? You didn't thinka bout water filtration? How to grow food? The circular stupidity of saying you'll grow canola for oil for biodiesel, but the bunker is in a place that at no time in human history could grow that plant, AND after the bombs drop, it's radioactive, so burning it is a double hazard: Smoky and radioactive! Oh, but they'll plant sunflowers. Sure. For a decade. But you can't eat the seeds or let anything else eat them. And how do you destroy them without releasing radiation?
As you can see, my prepper dad had a reason to, in his words, "just drive into the big flash of light". An irradiated world? Not so easy.
Fun fact: Castle Bravo nuke test at Bikini Atoll wiped out most of the instruments meant to measure it. They didn't realize some of the chemistry would do what it did, and so instead of five megatons, it was around 15. For an idea? The immediate blast zone for a 15 megaton nuke is around, oh, 6-8 miles from the detonation site. And by immediate, I mean, the initial fireball tha tincinerates everything.
In the Cold War, back in 1961, the Canadian government ran a simulation: What if we got hit? Turns out 3.5 million people in Ontario within, oh, the first day. That was in 1961. Now imagine if someone airburst a mere 10 megatons on Toronto, which is what the Canadian government did in Tocsin B, the "drill". They were shocked by the findings.
For an example? A city in Ontario would be wiped out if someone bombed Detroit, Michigan. (I want to say Hamilton, but I think I'm wrong. Yep, I'm wrong. It's Windsor, Ontario.)
And that's why we don't push the big red buttons, folks!
No idea how I got here from hating Windows 11, but it's that kinda day? LOL. Nightmares all night. The scream-awake kind. Poor Dahlia ran to get Hubby.
May we be peace-filled and at peace and may we all have less fear and anger in our lives.

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Today (August 8) is INternational Cat Day. Don't click away! International DOG day is August 26! Both were created to raise aweareness and funds for the well-being of critters. We have many such dayts, to the pint that every day is like an old Catholic saints' day calendar: Take your pick!I'm home, obvs, and still ill. Left calf and foot not great after a tangle-fall, but i'll live. Just can't...
I taught my mother in law how to use Uber. In March and I recently discovered that she took enough Uber trips to Target that her credit card debt has increased by $10,000. Froze her card and have been taking her to family therapy. Wife ust got a steroid shot as she has been in a fibroflare since her car accident. All the civs in my office have been on furlough since government shutdown. Except one who isn't getting paid.
