Good morning, and a shout-out to our newest/er members, lurkers, and just-ain't-posting-ers. Glad you are with us:-)
Today is our last "hot" day. Then it's only going to be "very warm". I give credit to our local weatherman for creative use of synonyms for "ugh, icky, too warm".
So... Mom's edema remains a medical mystery. (Yay.) My PT went okay. I can afford 3 sessions since my HMO won't cover, and I already have "home self-directed therapy" exercises to do. They were super-nice and super-accommodating about my PTSD, but OMG, I bless the guy who prescribed my anxiety med. I was still so nervous I nearly left five times in the first twenty minutes, and that was *with* the "happy pill". So I go next week and week after, then done. Could be worse.

OK, guys, I am trying to laugh this off, b/c it's so freaky. The chapter-stealing person? Well, she's now gloating over the "Glowing review" it got by the editors. Ikeep telling myself "Karma is a bigger bitch than I ever need to be" but oooh, it's not easy. Theft of intellectual property is something I know about. I was an editor. I have done writing. There's things you do *not* mess with, and plagiarism is *not* a form of flattery, but... Yeah. Puma's hackles are up and puma tail is a-lashing.

Which brings me to the other weirdness of my last 12 hours. I had a nightmare. Now, this is why it was a ngihtmare. We were all at this realy small circular table, squished in but at the same time we all had room (it was a dream, you know how they work), but we were only there as our Avatars. So we were these floating round avis drinking tea or coffee or (cocoa, okay, it was me!) and talking the way we write here, and it got nightmarish not because people's avis of their pets were talking but when somehow I saw my own avi, and my puma had my human hair on its head atop the rest. WTF?! I wish I could say I had something fun to induce that particular weirdness, but it's just my PMS.

It is the last day of August! If you pay rent or have other bills due tomorrow, don't forget to write the checks, click the pay-option button, etc.:-)
And today, I want you to do something nice for yourself. Spend no more than $50, but no less than $10. Jsut for *you*. Not your kids (I know you love them, but you need love too) or your spouse (not even slow-acting brainwashing substances, sorry) or your pets (guilty!) or parents or siblings or neighbors or houses or apartments or cars or random strangers on the street. This is for *you*. Want to get a bouquet of pink flowers in a teapot? 1800Flowers has them for under $50 US. How about warm fuzzy slippers against cold feet? A super-cheerful t-shirt nobody else would buy for you? A book? A movie? Heck, an order-in supper for Just You? Pay a babysitter/dogsitter/parentsitter and just spend that money on sitting still! But do it for *only you*. Why? Because you are worth the treats you spend all that time arranging and making and so on for everyone else, from pets to parents and all in between. Heck, if it's just two tubes of a favorite foot rub... Just you.

In 1881, Richard Sears today became the first US men's tennis champ, the first US championships in tennis being held on grass in Newport, Rhode Island. A resort for the wealthy, to no one's surprise.
In 1964, California became the most populous state in the US, a position it still holds, beating out (in order) Texas and New York, although FLorida is gaining on New York for Third Place in that contest. Wyoming, btw, is least populous, coming in even behin dthe non-state District of Columbia by a couple spots. (Given the difference in size, kinda scary. Mostly b/c it shows how crowded DC is.)
In 1990, East Germany and West Germany signed a treaty that meant the two would being the process of unifying and "harmonizing" their respective political and legal systems, although the former East Germany today remains rather less prosperous and more contentious thatn former West Germany. (Without the Soviet system, a lot of jobs vanished, and some people never found work again. They still complain. After 26 years, I think it's safe to say one's unemployment is not entirely the fault of reunification... Seriously, job snobs irk me. "Oh those people stole our jobs". Really? YOu were spreading mulch for a living? *headdesk*)

And I'm off to deal with yet another day. Stay warm, safe, dry, comfy, and big hugs to all....

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

... observed a solar eclipse.

Leo, I really don't like that your mom's edema is still a mystery. That's like driving around without any breaks and hoping no accident occurs. I definitely had tea with you in that dream! lol. Well, I already spent the money on Amazon yesterday. It as $80 but 40 of it was for 60 days supply of my OTC sleep aid. The rest was misc kitchen utensils I've been wanting. One of them is a can opener that gives clean edges on the side of the can. I'm tired of cutting my fingers on those ragged, sharp edges. I hope your elbow starts feeling better soon!
Bbmom, eewwww! Is it a sewage leak?
Been achy, sleeping with heating pads on my legs. But my shoulders kill me during the day. Guess I'll try putting the pad on my shoulders at night.
The weather today is totally yuck because of Hurricane Madeline and Lester (the latter hits in a couple days). I have an appt with the lady doc today down town to check the implant in my arm and make sure it's doing well / healed. I can't believe I have to drive in this horrible weather. Yuck yuck YUCK. They haven't called to reschedule, so I'm assuming all appts are still on track. But I'll call to double check.
Hershey is doing OK after getting her tooth pulled yesterday. But she really hates it when I have to give her her meds. 2 syringes in her mouth: one filled with antibiotics and the other pain killer... and goes into fight mode when she seem them. The instructions were to give the painkiller into her cheek pocket. Yeah right! I'm lucky if I can get anything in her mouth the way flails around.
Gotta switch on the news and check for updates on the storm....
Back shortly....
Kel, funny how Sparty had a beer at the round table lol. Sorry you're feeling the pain from that 4wheeler, but I bet it was fun! Hope it eases up soon -if you can stay still long enough lol.
Angela, you're always so busy. It sounds like a very nice coffee bar set up you did. I'm glad you have your dog to snuggle you. My cats are my stress relievers, too. When I injured my back in 2004, Silver wouldn't let me out of his sight.
Hi Twin, i'm sorry your pain tripled. I wish I could wipe it away or sprinkle magic dust and it disappear. Yoga didn't help me either. They kept telling me to hang in there that my body has to get used to it, strengthen, etc, but it just hurt too much. I can't kneel, lean on my hips or hands, or pretty much every joint you have to put pressure on in yoga. They said try more padding, but nope. I say if it doesn't work for you, don't force it. What's wrong with those people. I agree with Bbmom, maybe if they had one for 80 yr olds lol. Praying your pain calms down...
Bobbii, I'm glad you found your way out from under that paperwork. Also that you finished your shawl. How cool!
Fantod, thanks for the shoutout! Sorry you feel like doo-doo. I hope you can get some sleep tonight. I make a lot of mistakes when I'm in zombie mode.
Lester upgraded to a cat 4. Yay... not.
Oahu is having a World Conservation Congress for 10 days beginning tomorrow. People are flying in from all over the planet. And guess whose coming this afternoon right smack in the middle of rush hour from Hickam AFB on Air Force One (not to mention right in the middle of a hurricane threat)? That poor tiny island is jammed packed with a million people and he'll be shutting down the freeway during rush hour? Where does he expect everyone to drive? The ocean? I think that's very selfish of him. I'm so glad I don't live on Oahu anymore and have to put up with the migraine of total island shut down every time he visits.
Have a good rest of the day. Hope we have another round table meeting again soon. ;)
Bobbii, thanks, I hope your neck pain eases and that darn cough stops. Good luck cleaning and preparing for lessons.
BBmom, I should mention to you and Bobbii that I'm doing yoga for kids so they don't hold the poses for an ungodly length of time, but it's still enough. It hurts my hands too and I couldn't do some of them. I'm glad you moved offices for the day. Keep positive, it's a job and you don't need stress in your life. Hugs
Fantod, so sorry your day started crappy. It's so hard getting the sleep our bodies are supposed to have. I never get close to 8 hrs. I hope you get a nap and cleaning done. Thanks for your support! Hugs
Ida, I'm so glad you got some new clothes. It sounds very comfortable and you can feel good about how you look. I prefer sweats or yoga pants at home. I hope your pain eases up. I hate to hear how bad the pain is with everyone. The weather changes slightly and we are all doomed, or some of us.
Blue, Good luck getting that medicine down Hershey. It always makes me laugh when they say all you have to do is give it to them twice a day. My French bulldog could spot pills smashed or stuck in anything. He hated liquids and it was honestly a torture session to get them down. I'm praying about your weather. I will be trying to follow it. Keep us posted too.
Ida, I am happy you got some sweats. I love sweats and soft things too. If I could wander around in an oversized t-shirt and boxer shorts I would be the happiest, until it turns cold. Anyways, I hope your sweats and heating pad are helping.
Blue, be safe! I am sure Oahu is a nightmare between the POTUS and the conference. Even with the crappy weather, you can't reschedule a conference of that magnitude on a short notice (less than several months). Our Jake is good with medicine. Just put it in some cheese and he comes running. Today he has vomited and diarrhea too, so I hope it is just a one day thing. Poor old boy. I feel bad for him. Oh, but the little white dog thinks she should have cheese too, just like brother.
Hubby has his Navy hazing event tonight so he wont be home before 1am. It aggrivates me that he has to take a 1/2 day off work every Wed for 10 weeks, plus it costs about $30/40 in fuel to get there and back each week. These Selectees should be put on orders and this crap paid for, in my opinion. It will be over soon, that is what I keep telling myself. His pinning is 9/18. I think I will have BLT's for dinner. Sonny might be around to keep me company, but I doubt it. I hate Wednesdays!!
Good night all!
Angela, glad things are getting organized and your mom is now understanding a lot better what you have bee through.
As for me, the pain seems unending, night and day. No matter what I take. I need to see my family doc again, but I will wait till I see my rheumatologist in a week. Maybe he has some answers?
So because the pain was so bad, I decided to go shopping at both Costco and the local supermarket. I was lucky and got a scooter at Costco. I also wore my thumb caps, which I simply must remember to do. I was just out of everything and now, I don't have to worry for a while. My garden is also still producing a lot! I don't know what I would do without those lovely raised beds!
My plan was to ride my bike today, but I just can't push myself the way I feel. Surely there has to be an end to this constant nightmare of pain everywhere?
I can't say it's selfish, since the Secret Service arranges this stuff, so the protectees don't have a ton of say, and it's hardly unusual to want to see one's home state.... But geez, do they ever think of timing? Wait, no. I live where they shut down the da*n roads for uni students moving in, let alone POTUS! (Or VPOTUS. Or any given candidate, senator, congresscritter, etc., argh!)
ANyway, on a happy note, we had thunder, and then a full-sky rainbow! YAY!
Back from my interesting day. Weather isn't as bad right now... bad brunt of it coming tonight they say.
