Hi Everyone,
Just want to tell you about this vitamin that I discovered. Last year, I came across this article about how the ACTIVE form of Vit B12 (Methylcobalamin) helps many kinds of neurological disorders, ie. Alzheimers, Parkinsons, fibromyalgia, etc. Since fibro is a neuro disorder, I gave it a try.
Now, this is not the same form of Vit B12 that you commonly see in the big chain drugstores--those are in the Cyanocobalmin form, which is not as easily absorbed. Those go thru the digestive process in the stomach which, by the end of the process, you are actually absorbing a lot less than you intended. The Methylcobalamin form is taken as a lozenge under your tongue, where it is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
The article said that for general maintenance of neuro health, take 2000 to 5000 mcg. (1000 mcg= 1 mg) For fixing disorders, take 10,000 mcg to 20,000 mcg. So I took 10,000 mcg. The next day, I felt noticeably different: More energetic, less overall pain. The previous widespread pain now felt more like stiffness, instead of pain. However, my concentrated localized neck pain was still there. But overall, it was a pretty significant improvement.
I did notice that I felt kind of nervous/hyper, so I pulled back the dosage to 5000 mcg. I have been on it for almost a year. Recently, a friend has been describing the same pain symptoms as I have, but she has not been diagnosed of fibro yet. She tried the Methycobalamin, and she did feel a noticeable improvement in a few days.
You can buy this in some specialty vitamin stores, Whole Foods, Sprouts, even Costco (which is a lot cheaper). You must check the ingredients to make sure it says Methylcobalamine, not Cyanocobalamin.
Also, google the internet to see the side effects. If you get the side effects, adjust the dosage. I checked with my doctor to see if these dosages are over the acceptable limit. She said no.
Worth a try!

Today (August 8) is INternational Cat Day. Don't click away! International DOG day is August 26! Both were created to raise aweareness and funds for the well-being of critters. We have many such dayts, to the pint that every day is like an old Catholic saints' day calendar: Take your pick!I'm home, obvs, and still ill. Left calf and foot not great after a tangle-fall, but i'll live. Just can't...

I'nm exhausted. This doxycycline thing has ripped me apart and I'm eating crackers and water. I can't take (anything) or eat (anything) except saltines and toast and maybe unbuttered watery mashed potatoes. Are we sure the cure isn't worse than the possible disease?!?!And a week to go. ***Fun cures that WERE worse than the disease:ARsenic. Popular against STDs, which just compounded misery...

I asked my doc the other day if I need to get my Vit B-12 level checked considering I'm taking such a high dosage. He said no--there's no established upper limit on Vit B-12.
Please note: I am talking ONLY about Vit B-12, not any other type of Vit B. Some types of Vit B can poison you.
Thanks again, Khadi
