I went to a neurologist and he didn't seem to understand what Fibro was, and I thought that's where someone is supposed to go. I got a referral to a rheumatologist from my primary care doctor and they haven't called me yet and it's been longer than the doctor said it would take. So I'm right there with you. It is so frustrating.

Call your local hospital and ask for the physician referral service. See if they can match you up with a rheumatologist or neurologist who treats Fibromyalgia.

FYI Fibromyalgia now has its own diagnostic code so it is now pretty difficult for doctors to ignore it or say it isn't real. If you run into any doctor that acts like a jerk, report them to your health insurance carrier. Take care.

There is no rhummy that will deal with fibro here. I was approved by my insurance to go to WI to see one, and it was all set up, they refused to see me once i got there saying they dont take michigan medicaid. Even thought they pre approved. My medicaid is actually looking for one for me because they assigned me a case manager do to my complex medical problems. Does your hospital have anyone that can help you look?

I'm sorry I have nothing to offer except sympathy. I also saw a neurologist who thought gabapentin was a psychiatric medicine! Good grief. It was originally for seizures and now is also used for fibro pain. The ignorance in my state (Florida ) is astounding.
I'm having trouble even finding a g.p. who isn't a "concierge " doctor, meaning he takes no insurance and charges a yearly fee. I have one now and can't afford to pay him AND see any specialists even if I could find a decent one.
The state of health care is horrible and is about to get worse. I'm sorry to be negative but it seems that it takes quite a bit of energy to get anywhere with doctors and lack of energy is one of our problems. ...
Someone on another post suggested finding a teaching hospital. That seems like an idea if you can figurr out how to do it. Good luck to you.

Gabapentin is a psych med as well, i was put on it for a mood stabilizer then it was helping with pain so they upped it for that reason, it no longer helps but they still have me on it.

I've had the office that my primary referred me to call me twice because they don't seem to understand that even though my insurance card doesn't have my name on it doesn't mean it's not MY insurance card. I'm on my husbands insurance and they just don't put any name except the subscribers name on the insurance cards. I explained this BOTH times they called.
They thought that the ID and group number would be different if I had a card with my name on it..keep in mind they told me this after they got through to my insurance, gave them the numbers on my card, and the insurance confirmed that yes, I am in fact covered and that my husband is the subscriber.

Clearly the person you spoke to has no clue on how insurance cards are set up. Ask to speak to the office manager. Take care.
