Rockwell 2l9, I believe that the vitamins are certainly in my blood. I take tons of supplements. I don't think my doctor ever checks for vitamin levels with the blood-work he orders, just liver functions and tests like that. I will ask for that test on my next visit. I'm not sure it would mean anything because I know about this inability to absorb materials in my blood. I wonder what causes that...

Yeah I wish I knew what caused the absorption issues also. Even pain killers have very little effect on me. (I see my doctor next week, I will ask her)

Do you have to pay for every test they give you? When my Rheumatologist was trying to narrow down my issues I was tested for everything you could think of. There was even a rare african disease on the blood test (just in case...I have never been to africa).

My friends Aunt had similar symptoms to ours and was diagnosed with Fibro. She thought she had it for some time until she found out she was misdiagnosed and had a vitamin D deficiency. (I'm not saying thats what you have... but if your doctor can do additional tests, perhaps they may find something they haven't looked for yet causing your additional fatigue). I'm sorry everyone is feeling this way. Its so frustrating. I take iron every day and have for years, yet my iron levels are still well below anything normal.

I know this year my fatigue has become dramatically worse, but with all the tests I have had, I was told it was the Fibro causing it.

I also have hypothyroidism.

I have Hypothyroidism. I found out that if for women, if you test on the first day on your menstrual cycle, the doctors can get a more accurate result. I was always on the low side and my doctor told me that it was not low enough for meds. He told me to call him the day I started my cycle and he would have his office draw blood from me that day. He said it has something to do with the other hormones in the body and gives him a true result. I did exactly what he said and when my results came back the level was so low he said my thyroid was barely working. I have been on meds since and my dose has had to be increased 3 times in 2 years. For the past year, the levels have been right where they need to be. So, when the body aches, fatigue, sleeplessness, and everything else got worse my doctor sent me to a Rheumatologist. After a lot of bloodwork and x-rays, I was diagnosed with Fibro.

I have been tested for nutritional deficiencies and I take Vitamin D, B-12, and Magnesium, along with a good multivitamin and mineral supplement.

I've never tested low on iron - no anemia.

We're up to day three and I can feel the energy change - I am cautiously hopeful.

So I get a call from the nurse my labs are all in normal range.
TSH - 1.3 (normal .3 - 3)
T3 free - 2.8 (normal 2.3 - 4.2)
T4 free - 0.6 (.7 - 2.0 per internet so this is low)
TPO - 2 (normal she said was 0-11 I think)

So why does my thyroid often feel swellon? Doctor is on vacation until Tuesday so I won't get results of the ultrasound until then. I do have most all of the hypothyroid symptoms but many are the same as the fibro symptoms. Will wait and see what US is I guess.

There was a post awhile back talking about thyroid mimicing fibro or vice versa, it even listed a self test you can do at home to test your thyroid.

Yes, I did read that Magic. I know I have Fibro for sure, maybe the Fibro can cause the swollen thyroid too,

I wish I knew Tammy, its just so aggravating to have things wrong with you and there never is an answer.

Have a ultra sound done have them look for nodules. The symptoms form the Mayo Clinic:

Most thyroid nodules don't cause signs or symptoms. Occasionally, however, some nodules become so large that they can:

Be felt
Be seen, often as a swelling at the base of your neck
Press on your windpipe or esophagus, causing shortness of breath or difficulty swallowing
In some cases, thyroid nodules produce additional thyroxine, a hormone secreted by your thyroid gland. The extra thyroxine can cause problems such as:

Sudden, unexplained weight loss
Nervousness
Rapid or irregular heartbeat

Susan - no problem with weight loss at all and I don't recall any rapid heart problems.

I called the doctor's nurse again this morning, he was on vacation, to get my ultrasound results. When she called me back she just said the doctor wanted me to follow up with my regular doctor (who was not available at the time) in about two weeks. No explanation why or what the ultrasound results were. So I'll have to wait another couple weeks. I'm guessing they are going to take more labs.

Good luck Tammy, I would still try to contact your PCP once again (I would) they should be able to give the results over the phone as that is how I was told they called me and urged me to get the Up Take teat done...

I have had only a few times with a rapid heart problem...The first time I called my PCP who told me to watch it for a bit or have my husband take ne to a drug store that has a blood pressure machine and test myself...this happened on a friday after hours for my PCP so it was a lot cheaper then a ER visit!

With weight I lost 20 lbs at the start as I stopped smoking and wanted to be ahead of the 20 lbs they say you gain...I have stayed about the same up and down a few, more down then up, but I have switch my eating habits due to the large amount of Gabapentin I take I want to be on top of the ball game...

Susan I did call back this morning. I have a 3-4 cm nodule on the right side of my thyroid. So now I'll have to wait to talk to the doctor I guess before I find anything else out.

I am 10 days into my thyroid medication and still getting good energy.
