I posted this in Gastritis first. But realized it really belongs here and in IBS. Two illnesses that are really misunderstood.


How can we sometimes be in such severe pain yet we are not dying?

I'm sure this is true about a lot of diseases or illnesses... not just gastritis. But it really blows my mind that I can have such awful pain and still don't have a "killer" disease.

How can one part of our bodies hurt so much, but no one can really find anything "wrong" with it. Can't name our illness. It's not killing us.

I'm not complaining. Just stating an observation.

And I keep thinking maybe I have something else as well. Then maybe my complaints will feel more legitimate and perhaps be more socially acceptable...like I'm not just crazy!

Ditto. It's like, "Oh, porr thing, it's cancer! Let me help you!".... but "Oh, IBS? FIbro? Aren't those made-up? Get a grip!".... GAH!

Of course, it's 2016 and I still have people asking me if my epilepsy is because I abused cocaine. No, it's a DNA glitch. But thanks for assuming the worst! *facepalm*

Well, now I don't feel so stupid about posting this. There's always going to be someone who thinks we are "faking" or hypochondriacs. I have many illnesses, including MS and Graves Disease. If people can't see you bleeding out your eyes, they tend to dismiss your illness and YOU.

What really gets me is i am always being told well if you would just exercise and lose weight you would be so much healthier and in a lot less pain! Umm i can barley walk WITH a cane, i am 31 years old, but ya ill go out and walk a few miles everyday uh huh. I was thin untill 18 when i had m y car accidnetly and thats when the fibro started as well as teh chronic back pain. They tell me if i jus tstressed less my ibs would go away. i totally see where your coming from noone takes whats wrong seriously becuase they can not see it!
