Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.

Hey, all, good morning!
Well, I did it. Joined a support group for pain management. Guided imagery doesn't do much but relax some muscles for me, but hey, that helps, I'll take it, and maybe it won't be scary. (Maybe?) First meeting next Thursday afternoon. *fingers crossed*

Therapy yesterday was "pain management imagery".
Honestly? I can't do this well on my own. If I've got the person there, helping, I can relax a lot of muscles, and less tension means less pain. SOme people can "snap" into their "happy imagery" place and get going wiht a simple "close the eyes, make an OK symbol with the fingers". Me? It is to laugh. No.
So therapy today is... survive the GYN appointment. Gentlemen, till you've been in those stirrups, you don't know what it's like to have to ride that pony, is all I'm sayin'. That position is not natural. In any way. Convenient for the person spelunking up my vagina? Yes. Happy for me in any way? Oh hell no. I prefer the *dentist*. Actually, till the last few years, I could easily doze off at the dentist. Have yet to get through GYN without total panic.
And today? It's a nurse prac.
I *hate* NPs.
Why?
Well, my first encounter was NP A. I went in with upper GI pain. She told me to lie down and asked why I wasn't ready for a pelvic. Cue me screamign HELP! and fleeing the room. Actually, I told her, I don't need a pelvic for acid reflux. I complained, and it turned out she was giving pelvics to any female patient with any pain between the neck and knees. EWWWWWW. Thank God I didn't presume she knew what she was doing. (She was fired, btw.)
Next up? The Nurse Prac on the family tree. My hubby's brother's wife. BIL's wife of the "I know everything" complex. She mocked poor blacks for not knowing Tinnitus isn't Tetanus. OK, 1. never mock your patients 2. let alone over FAMILY DINNER 3. even white rich people don't know what's what and 4. the community in question had people dying of simple tetanus as recently as the 1970s, for crying out loud, so that is a scary word. And if you don't know what tinnitis is (ears ringing) and call and ask, b/c you are scared of similar sounding *tetanus*.... It's legit. Hello?
She's the one who banned me from family meals at her house b/c her hubby (my hubby's brother) like smy pumpkin pie. He likes hers, too, but apparently compolimenting mine was a sin and here we are... Ain't seen her in *years*. Not that I miss her, mind you.
....
After that, I just decided "Oh hell no". And this NP? Is replacing one who retired that Hubby was comfy with, so I've no idea who is this woman about to spelunk around my gal parts. Sure, no problem.
"Here, total stranger, let me get itno this hideously uncomfy position, particulary for someone with chronic hip and groin pain, and lock my feet into these cold metal stirrups so I can't kick your face when you shove an icy metal spatula up my dainties and go probing around up to your damn wrist."
How is this remotely sane?!

I have six chocolate truffles waiting for me as a reward, btw.
Dentists? Eh. Other than hip and back pain, I still can doze off, the pain is why I get anxious. During one procedure about 15 years ago, I actually did sack out cold for three hours straight. Hey, I got comfy, he gave me the novocaine, and I didn't need anesthesia. Good sleep, too. Yes, I'm a mutant!

AWWW moment...
I can't find Lil Miss yesterday. OH NO! It's chilly, raining, poor little... Wait, what?
I had brought down some insulation (in its package) from the attic and taken it to my porch to dust off the attic dust/crud. I stuck it on back of a chair that cats use, so cats could use the chair seat, and didn't think twice. IT's a small bundle, about the size of a rolled-up yoga mat. I threw a blanket over the chair, and so happened the roll of insulation too. Shadow was sacked out per usual on the seat.... And LilMiss was perched above him on the insulation roll, quite possibly THE warmest kitty in the world. I mean, she was toasty. It's rain and maybe 60*F, and she's basking. She gave me this look when I petted her, like, "Oh, wow, this is so much better than perching on top of your tool cabinet."
Cats. Apparently, I live to serve....

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

It's hard when the kids can't get their words out. And frustration will make them loose a few points off their IQ, the first thing to go out the window is language and behaviors replace them. It's more than likely what Addison was experiencing, but that is a momma's guess. Andrew wouldn't talk until after dinnertime usually when he was in public school. He needed that time to just decompress the whole day. He's going to be that strong silent type. I keep reminding him how much I love to hear what he has to say and how impressed I am to hear all of it. I try my hardest to never shoo him away from me while I'm doing something because if he comes to be, he has his words organized and ready.
And we've been working with his tutor to get him to just express his thoughts. The papers he has written and researched are remarkable for his age. His last paper was on earthquakes of the world and how they impact wildlife.
But this one thing....his autism locks it up. And some days there just isn't enough tears to open him up. I get it, it's hard. Just never give up on the girls. I have always said we have one chance at raising these kiddos...and I have given up my own dreams and passions to be here to raise our boys. They will be my accomplishments I bring to the world.
Fantod, so sorry your insurance gives you the run around...sounds like they tossed Zofran into the 3rd tier category. But what is sad, is that is a go to med for many docs especially oncologists. I get that not everyone needs it, and it's spendy, but making someone require a prior auth every stinken time is, well...a grand waste of time and money that could be simply just edited in their database as an unexireable PA. (I used to work on adjudicating Rx claims). Not hard to do...but policies make it a hassle.
But I'm glad to hear you're feeling better.
Blue, oh poor little Silver! You're such a good mom to him. I hope the drops work again and he can just venture around at being a cat again. And thanks for the kind words for Andrew. He's got his schoolwork done already. He's starting the Harry Potter books and his first one came today. And we worked through the problem. Just breaks my heart that he was so sad last night. He's truly such a great kiddo. He was a little monster as a toddler, but now, he's someone I hope never leaves home. Both of them actually. Or I better win that lotto so I can buy the neighborhood homes so they can stay close to me. I just don't think my heartstrings will stretch that far if they move far away. Last night he's talking becoming an aerospace engineer.....looks like I'll be moving to Texas or Florida eventually.
Leo, my MIL just had one of those done. But she was so relieved to share that her breast cancer didn't come back she forgot to share on how the machine worked. I heard they still squish...but Fantod made it sound like it's almost a cake walk.
Glad you made it through the appointment earlier. And "Basket case" is written on almost all of my paperwork too. LOL.
Miki, hope you get that muscle stretched out and you're back to running again.
Angela, you did a lot yesterday. Good job!
Ida, sorry your PTSD was triggered by being near your parents. I hope you find peace again.
Wow, Twin... that's a lot going on with you. One day at a time, my friend. You're not alone... you have Jesus (who understands because he suffered so much physical pain) and you have us. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Puppy, sounds like a pretty full plate you have there. They used to tell us in pain management group to scratch away at one thing at a time and before you know it, we'll only have a few things left. Is there a patient advocate you can talk to?
Bobbii, I hope your daughter can get out of there. Does her roommate have a car? Can she take the bus? Can your father send someone to get her? I hope you get some sleep soon, it sucks when zombie mode takes over.
Fantod, yay it's almost like having a new driveway. Glad your Gi is doing better now.
Wonder, very well put. I sometimes worry about how I'm not doing all that God has chosen me for, but in perspective I am doing what he has chosen me for. I'm all these girls got on a Christian upbringing and helping them through every autistic and adhd struggle as much as possible. Thanks for the encouragement.
Angela, yum and I'm glad your treating yourself, you deserve it. :-)
I have been watching the hurricane Irma info since I got back from PT and it is giving me high anxiety and I live in Michigan. I hope the best for folks in the areas that are/will be effected..
Leo - I had that type of mammogram for the first time last December. I didnt feel more pain from it , but we are all different. Mammograms actually aggravate my neck, costochondritis , and elbows from the different positions and holding the bars.
To everyone - MAMMOGRAMS ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL WOMEN!!!!!!!!!! It upsets me when I hear women say they dont get them because of the discomfort, etc. It is such an important preventive test. Both my mother and grandmother had breast cancer discovered on mammos when it was very very small. Stage 1 . They had to have lumpectomies and radiation , but nothing else. An old friend wouldnt get them , my reply was if you wont do it for yourself than do it for your kids and the other people that love you. ok rant over.
Fantod - I have to get a prior authorization for Zofran every year. For a generic it is still very expensive. Thank goodness with insurance it is cheap, but the amount Medicare pays for it goes towards my yearly med cost allowance. One year I maxed out and had to pay something like $750.00 or more for it. I get the ODT kind.
I am off to take a muscle relaxant and pain pill and lay down and silently swear at physical therapy in general .
Hugs and good sleep wishes to all.
Autumn are you feeling better?
Got some windows boarded up for the hurricane. The track constantly changes so it's a wait and see. They finally got sand bags in again and hubby got some. We are around the nub on the east side of FL, about 2 miles from the ocean. Everything was booked so we'll be staying here. So tired and pain is high today!
Everyone keep safe.....
