Good morning! Temperatures here dropped 30*F in 24 hours. Oh fun for us walking barometers!
I had the oddest nightmare last night. I don't remember the dream, only that I was desperate to run, and I woke up when I hit the floor *on my feet*. Unfortunately, my dreaming self didn't remember where the bookcase is, and my right big toe looks like a plum. Still, I intend to do some therapy tomorrow.
It's called.... another march for a cause.
Actually, same cause. Human rights. THis one specifically healthcare.
Point is... when you feel helpless, down, at a loss?
Write an e-mail or postcard to your elected representative. THey might not care. THey might pay attention. Either way, *you* have done something, so *you* feel better. (Also, it's not expensive. And they have set-ups now for leaving voice-mails.)
So take a small action. Drop a tenner into a donation jar for the animal shelter. E-mail your senator (state or federal or whatever). Put a box of oatmeal into the food donation bin at the store for the food bank. Heck, just let someone get into traffic ahead of you when you'd rather ignore them. Small kind acts by you will help *you*, and not just in that karma sense. You can re-direct anxiety and stress into "I feel crappy, but I don't have to *be* crap, I can be nice..."
For example, I sent *thank-you* notes to my senator for a recent vote. Peopel usually only complain. I'm going to also go for kindness. Sound stupid? Think how you feel when someone says thanks instead of "what you effed up today".
Short version is "Be the change you want to see". Golden rule. Etc.

Meanwhile, we now have two cats named Shadow in the neighborhood, so when one owner calls, two cats show up. I had to giggle. I know the feeling. I just walk outside and whammmo! Animals appear! Also, ravens. They're roosting in my pine tree. That is not exactly the Bluebird of Paradise warbling me awake, y'know?

Today in 1825, the young US Constitution got a workout when John Quincy Adams was elected president by the House of Representatives. Why? No candidate int he 1824 election had received a majority of electoral votes, so it went to the House, and JQAdams got the win. His dad was Founding Father and former president John (no Q) Adams. JQAdams was surprisingly successful in negotiating treaties but not a very warm and fuzzy guy. His son Charles Francis Adams followed him into public service, and helped keep the UK out of the US Civil War (which was in the US's interests), and built the first presidential library in JohnQ's honor.
Happy birthday to volleyball! Allegedly invented today in 1895 by WG Morgan. WHy? Well, someone at some point invented golf, curling, and lacrosse, so why not volleyball? Original name: Mintonette. Morgan wanted to combine elements of handball, basketball (a recently developed game of itself) and tennis. It's one of the few sports where spiking a ball into someone's face is both common and I've never seen it called as a foul. The ball is rarely aimed at a face, btw, b/c a face-block counts as a block-but-not-a-hit, and you don't want the other team to get to block without it counting as a hit. (If you've never played, assume that isn't gobbledygook and makes sense. Thank you.:-)) My one friend in high school was a killer at the sport. Her serve even in phys ed class made people scatter.
Today in 1950, Senator Joe McCarthy alleged that the State Department of the US was "riddled" with active communists, ergo "traitors" by the logic of the day, and thus began the era of McCarthyism. The upshot? If you hated someone, or wanted their job, or disliked their (anything), you yelled, "Communist!" and their lives went up in smoke, what with blacklists, firings, refusals of service at the store, you name it. Also a great way to get J Edgar Hoover's FBI crawling around someone, too. My mom's dad was Polish and in a labor union. They got ont he wrong end of that crap. Weird names and going on strike after a workplace safety issue killed someone by beheading? Horrors! (BTW, the someone was my great-uncle. Not so much beheaded as.... well, there wasn't any head recognizably *left*. Which isn't as bad as the poor guy who fell into the melted iron at the ironworks, don't get me wrong, but still not good.)

And on that note, I have to tend sick Hubby, sick me, Mom's paperwork for court tomorrow, and try to get the effing lawyer to actually speak to us before we see them in the courthouse tomorrow. He kept us out of the loop about an objection filed to mom's medical bankruptcy, and I found it out by accident, and I'm rather PO'd. He may think it's easily dismissed, but Mom's having meltdowns. She already thinks she will have to go to jail over this.... *sigh*
Peace to all,
leo

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
Sounds like you have a full day ahead, leo. And that lawyer....not sure I understand what he is up to. Those are all stressful things for today, and a sore toe on top of it all. Hope you can come home and rest after you are done, and that all goes well.
Not sure what I will do for therapy today. I'll wait and see what pops up. All I can think about it my right side neck and arm pain this morning. Turning my head is almost impossible. I have 3 errands to run, so I can't take my last Tramadol until I'm done with that. My neck has been hurting since late November. Today it's just too much and I've had it.
Praying someone wants to look at our house soon. I'm rather impatient on that right now. My house is clean...come look at it, right?
Talk to you all later.....
My pain last night had me in tears, litearly, Why do i wait to take something until its unbearable? I hate that im stubborn with that! I was on teh phone with Uncle Jim and i started crying, hes like are you ok? i said ya i just sat up and on the edge of teh bed (had been laying on heat) my back was spasming badddd. Today is a little better, not a lot bbut ill take anything. Just having a banana muffin i made last night then going to take the meds for my back and fibro. I slept some finally, broken but slept.
Great history lesson! We dropped to -10 overnight with a -25 or so wind chill and are suppose to push up to about +35 tomorrow. The weather swings like a pendulum do. (What's a pendalumdo?)
Oh, you forgot the scout motto: "Do a good turn daily" WHICH I will do today. Try to take some time for yourself..do yourself a good turn today.
ida,
I wish you luck on selling quickly there! It would be nice for you to geter done after you did so much work to get the house ready! Hope that your neck feels better as the day goes on. I wish I could offer some advice on it but I've been referred to as more of a "pain" in the neck than a "relief" in the neck.
ummmmmm my knee has swelled up to almost twice it's normal size for whatever the reason. The amazing thing is that pain is so much a part of life now that it's just kinda like, hmmmm that hurts like he11, oh well, what do I have to do today? I guess what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!?! Other than that, same old same old..
Hoping that everyone can do something good for themselves today (taking Leos advice),
Kel
Hoping that your back continues to get better throughout the day! Sending you healing (((hugs))).
Ida, I hear ya. Hurry! View the house while it's perfect! Ack!
Angela, good for you:-) I run into the nosy PO people. One insisted on knowing why I marked a package fragile. I replied, "Because it might break. THat's the definition of fragile," (I was in a mood), and then her supervisor took over that station and apologized.
Am off to make a big batch of broth to help Hubby get over the cold he has given me. He gets to take meds. I use Vicks and broth. I get better faster. Hmmm....
Leo, I'm sorry about your husbands cold, and extra sorry that now you got it. I read your comments about how no one takes care of you when you are sick, and yet we are expected to take care of them. Why is that? We are the ones with a disability, and yet we still have to take care of everything. I think that's how it is in every house though, it's not right.
ida, I'm so glad the realtor thought the house looked great. I hope you get some interested buyers fast, especially while it's so clean. :-) I hope your pain lessens today and things improve for you.
Angela, I love that you are sending her so many cards. I'm sure you know this, but that is definitely helping her go through this. I hope your pain lowers and the banana muffin was delicious.
kel, we really put up with a lot from our bodies don't we. I hope the swelling goes down, yikes, that sounds painful. Keep up the positive words, even if you don't feel like saying them, make yourself, it does wonders for our mindset. I'm glad the counselor seemed decent, I hope she really helps you.
Well the pain continues at full force, everything aches and my legs and feet hurt so bad. I would love to say I give up and just get to stay on the couch some days. The urologist for Addison was no help. He did take some labs and said the infection is finally gone. But then why is she still hurting so much? I remember having a bad kidney/bladder infection that lasted 2 months, and I felt horrible even after the infection was gone. I wonder if it's the same thing. This kid takes after me so much, it scares me. She is being referred to OU Medical Children's Center for more test and probing to see what's making the pain linger. He said it may take a few weeks. I don't know what to do, she seems to be in a lot of pain. We cried together in the bathroom again last night. I hate seeing her hurt so much.
Have a good day.
Leo - hope your paperwork goes OK.
Kel -- Have some snow for you. They are saying 4 inches and 27 degrees, so that's like a heat wave right?
AngelaJo-- I hear you. When I was not working I had people complaining that my Christmas cards were " really nice for someone unemployed". I had purchased the cards at the card store the previous July at a 75 percent discount and had been working at the time. I already have the 2017 cards in the closet, got those at a clearance sale in January. Plus, since people know I love stationary, my family gets me boxes of it as a gift.
Ida -- Good luck. I am sure the house looks great.
Twinmom-- Hang in there!
So I am snowed in. They are saying 4 inches but that is bunk. My lowest step is buried and the drifts in the driveway are over the rear bumper of the car. Hubby got to work, his commute took 3 times as long. He got out of the driveway in our big 4x4 truck. The trash company called at 10 to tell us they weren't picking up the trash, which would have been done by 6 am anyway. I went out at 5 and hauled the cans up our 75 foot driveway, that was fun! Also ran the dogs and that was the last time they tried to go out. Since I was up I made a pizza and a pit of chili in case we lose power I could reheat them on our wood stove. No hooking up our generator until Hubby gets home -- hopefully we won't need it. For the record, I can hook it up and start it.what I can't do is haul it around the house in this way more than 4 inches of snow.OK off to watch movies.
Ida, when are you seeing your doc for more tramadol? I am sure some of your neck issue is probably stress too. My shoulders are where I carry all of my stress and it sucks. I can completely understand being impatient about the house. I tried to sell ours once but then when the house we wanted fell through we took it off the market. I hated making it look pristine. I drew the line at taking my photos off from the wall, like the realtor wanted. Anyways, I hope some heat makes your neck and arm feel better. Take it easy on your errands.
Angela I am glad you got some sleep, even if broken. I am like you, wait until pain is unbearable to take anything and then it usually doesn’t help. I hope you have a good day today. I am sure your Aunt Peg is grateful that you send her stuff.
Kel, that is bazaar that your knee is that swollen. The things that make you go hmmmm. If that old adage is true, we all must be body builders!! Take care of yourself, please.
Dang it, Twin! I was hoping the urologist would be helpful. I am so sorry she is in so much pain. Hoping that stops soon. I hope your day today is better. I am sorry you are in so much pain. Take care.
Well, I woke up in pain at 1 am and think I slept maybe an hour before I finally got up at 7:30. I was an hour late to work, but all of the schools are closed and the roads were horrible. I took a couple of tramadol last night and early this morning and it didn’t help at all. I think that is why I quit taking it before, but had some from the dog! It wired me too, which is weird. Today my students are supposed to arrive and it is snowing very hard. Flights are being canceled. UGH! It is added stress I just don’t need. But, life goes on.
Puppymom, you have put a full day in already. I hope you don't lose power. We have a generator, but it is down in our barn and there is no way can I lug it up hill in the snow to the house. I think this is one of the largest snow falls we have had this year. I hope it stops soon. Take care and enjoy your pizza, chili and snuggles with the pups.
Prayers for all of you. I hope you find something nice to do for yourself today. I think I will have Panera.
Leo, shame the lawyer didn't keep you guys in the loop about somehting like that! I would be stressing so bad. When we did the short-sale (2013-2015), stuff would come out of thin air all the time and I'd have x amount of hours or days to produce blah-blah documents "or else". I don't think I slept a wink during that whole 2 yr process. I feel for you and your poor mom who thinks she's going to jail (facepalm).
Twin, there was a time back around 2008 when I had kidney infections on and off for a few years... and even after they went away I still had phantom pains that landed me in the ER a couple of times (thinking it had returned) but my urine was clean. Eventually the pains went away, but it was really annoying because it had me running to the doc for another pee test! I did find out a couple yrs alter by accident (overhearing a nurse talk about me) that my L kidney was scarred. Do you think she has any scar tissue?
If you read my later update yesterday, I was feeling a lot better in the afternoon, at least my legs didn't feel like bogged down, stiff tree logs anymore... I was so happy to be moving around. Swept the catio, took mom to the drug store, and swung by the post office.
Rant warning: When my husband came home, I did sit him down and ask him WHY during the last few days I've been struggling so much, said I was in pain, asked for help, he's only stood around and watched me? What was he thinking? His answer was: "Yeah, I know your pain's been high, it sucks. But you're *moving* so you're *OK*." Boy, did that set off a huge argument. Whatever evidence I presented to him where I said I needed help (during the events since the waterfall), he rationalized away or said he just wasn't aware. Even where I slipped on the rock AT the waterfall and cried out to him to come help me that I was in pain. All he did was turn around (from 15 ft away) and ask if I was Ok, I said no I'm hurt, he turned back around and kept going. He even rationalized that away. Said because I was still moving that I was OK!!! Am I married to a cold blooded psycho?? I told him yesterday I could not bear any weight on my L leg but had to find a way to get back to the car and was grabbing on to banana trees and other plants to hold my weight up because he wouldn't come help. He said he didn't know it was that bad. What did he think I was crying out to him for? What did he think I was holding on to banana trees for?? And for the past 3 days I haven't been able to stand up straight and looked like one of those apes on the evolution chart: bent legs and bent back! While holding myself up on furniture because I couldn't bear weight on my legs. His response: "You're ALWAYS struggling! How was I to know?!" I don't walk like that every day! I don't look like that everyday! There's a huge difference. What a lie! He's going to tell himself these lies so he doesn't have to deal with the reality of what I'm going through when I do need him. That way he can he hands off and not feel bad.
There's no horse therapy today. I do have 2 appts, though. One for my social worker and one for my new PTSD therapist.
I hope this posts. Sorry for the long rant. Back shortly and I hope I can get on again.

Angela, that's very sweet of you to send her cards like that and it's none of that clerks business. Sorry about your back, I hope the spams calm down ((hugs))
Kel, I know what you mean. We're so used to being sore all the time that when something does hurt less we're awe struck. Hey, I posted that quote yesterday :)
Puppymom, good luck with that snow in! I hope your husband comes home soon and you have the generator ready just in case, but hopefully won't need it. You guys are having a crazy winter out there.
Leo, I think it's amazing how husbands suddenly become struck down helpless cripples when they catch a cold! (Fibro guys on here excluded).
Bbmom, sorry your pain continues to aggravate you! Sounds like you're having a rotten day: tons of snow, pain, and piles of students! Ahh! I would take my pet's tramadol too if my day was going that way. Wishing you luck and tons of patients! Stay safe!
Miki, sorry your appt got canceled because of all the snow. Hang in there ok?
Hope I didn't miss anyone. Not in a good mood today so forgive me if anything came out wrong. Hot tea / cocoa for everyone....
