This is an interesting thread...I got the flu shot back in the late 80s when all of my symptoms started, Im not saying that is what caused my fibro, but I did get them several years in a row. Every time I got the shot, I got a mild case of the flu within 24 hours of getting the shot and it lasted 3 days or so if I remember right.

I finally decided to take my chances with the flu rather that having it for sure with the shot.

Also, I haven't seen anyone else mention this, the doctors sometimes get the flu shots in a bulk container, meaning they insert a needle multiple times into the same bottle, and this requires there to be a antibacterial in the shot solution which is mercury. The mercury is a very toxic material that has caused some people a lot of problems.

The single use vials are not supposed to have mercury since they are used only once.

Wow I didn't know about that warning. I have had the flu shot for the past four years luckily without any problems or getting the flu and had the H1N1 shot last year as well as the regular flu shot without any issues as well and plan to have that combination shot done this year. If I develop problems I will stop it but since so far so good I plan to since I really don't want to expose my husband a diabetic with other health issues to me getting the flu.

My son was running around yesterday trying to get the flu shot and asked me if I was going to get one - NOPE I said to him. He asked why not? Sequelly pretty much answered the question, and my Dr said NO WAY for my anyways. The schools in our area required the flu shot three years ago and I refused to allow my children to have them - the son above included. Then the school district tried to tell me that my youngest three could not go to school. I said ok. Then they said I could get arrested for truancy. What a crock. My son has moderate to severe asthma.

Bluesun, I would have been just as upset as you were! I do think you will be just fine. Maybe have your atty call your dr? jk Just upset that your own Dr's office would give you the shot! And please try to get your mind off of it best you can before you go into a flare and feel worse.

No H1N1 or Flu shots for me. I have an immune system.

I didn't get either flu shot last year. I was very weary of both and decided against it.

I never got the flu, so, I guess I lucked out last year.

At the end of August this year I caught the flu. I was sick, flat on my back in bed for a week, then was just terribly run down and achey for about another week. It is hard to tell the difference between "which" strain of flu you come down with...to me anyway.

I don't have any plan to get the flu shot this year either!

Blue, your doctor and nurse fell very short of their duties to inform you about the shot(s), especially because this doc told you not to get it last year. I would certainly call him with your concern and inform him that you got the information pamplet AFTER receiving the shot. Shame on them both!

I seen an episode on date line that this beautiful young girl was an athlete and was in great health and went and got the flu shot and now when she walks her nervous system goes into spasms and her body does to and st cant walk frontwards without jerking uncontrollably but she can run or wlk backwards and she looks normal, It was awful but it was due to getting the flu shot and it caused an illness to her nervous system I dont remember what it was called but she was a teenager I believe , she was very young any ways. That is scarey. I thought I was protecting myself when i was working from the flu i am a nurse so i had the flu shot 8 yrs in a role and I havent had it the last 2 yrs, I was going to get it last year but theyy ran out of the flu shot here and I then ended up getting some kind of flu dont know if it was the H1N1 or the general flu but my daughter got it and before we knew it was the flu I was taking care of her. I was sick for 2 weeks it was awful and of course worse on me cause of the fibro. I still dont know if the side effects from the shot is worth getting, I think I rather get the flu. I have a doctor appoinment today and I am going to disscuse it with my doctor. I hope you feel better today...hugs

I was contemplating on getting the flu shot but am not sure. I have diabetes along with fibro. It would be good to get it since I have diabetes but not sure about the fibro.

Anyone else have diabetes as well? I have type 2 and am on Amaryl generic, no insulin.

I am kind of appaulled by the amount of negativity toward this vaccination. There are risks with ANY vaccination...this one is no different but it doesn't carry higher risks. And you cannot get the flu from the vaccination. Even the ones with live virus. If u get the flu in the months that follow getting the shot it's likely not one of the three in the vaccination! If u get one included in the shot it will be very mild. I have asthma and two autoimmune diseases AND I am a nanny for very small children...so getting the flu shot is important to me.

I'm sorry your docs office did that. Everywhere you go everyone is offering the flu shot. It's a big hype right now. But you're right, no one is running out sharing that it's got the H1N1 in it.

I got my flu shot last week. No problems. (yet, crossing my fingers). But I also knew that the H1N1 vaccine was a part of it. It was all over the news & doctor offices last year.

Here is my two cents on it. The CDC is pushing the flu shots. I honestly believe they are trying to prevent another pandemic from happening. And I do think it's a good idea that they are being proactive vs. reactive as we all know reactions take longer to accomplish and when lives are at stake...then it's a good idea in my opinion.

But from what I remember from the research of last year the H1N1 vaccine preparation is no different than the regular scheduled flu shot preparation.
Meaning, the same thermosol or aluminum preservatives are being used regardless of which shot you get administered. Same goes for the other shots we readily ask for (pain meds/ migraine meds...all of it) They all have preservatives!

It is this crap that we should be worried about...not the inactive/active virus. This is the stuff that is so foreign to our bodies that our nervous systems can not tolerate it. (some more so than others) and these are the innocent individuals who suffer from it.

In a way we are fortunate that we already know that we have Fibro and we should be cautious about shots being administered to us. Others who are healthy, can be devastated or worse from a shot that was too much for their system to handle. They get tossed into a life like ours and none of us wish that upon anyone.

But for me and my family, we have health concerns that if we were to get the flu, it could have serious implications. I'm not willing to put myself or my family in that kind of danger. Especially when I know that there is preventions. We had the H1N1 here last year and as I shared last year it was the most wicked illness I've ever witnessed in my life. I still think that we were blessed that we didn't loose anyone, but I do know of families who did lose loved ones. It's not a gamble I'm willing to make.

One of the kids I nanny for got H1N1 last year before vaccinations were being given at schools. It was awful for her...she was 10. Thankfully she came thru it fine and noone else around her got it (I discovered the fever when she was with me one afternoon after school...she had complained of having a migraine type headache at recess at the end of school. Anyway, I put her in a room with a tv away from the other kids, washed my hands like a crazy person after caring for her and none of is got it.)
I agree it is the other stuff in the shots that causes these bad things. Does anyone know the reason why those additives are there?? I really don't know and have wondered that.

My mom-the-nurse says the additives are to keep the vaccines stable in solution and to preserve them so they don't go bad without things like constant refrigeration, etc. She is very homeopathic-oriented and researches that kind of stuff constantly.

I had H1N1 last year and honestly, it wasn't any worse than "usual" flu for me. That said... IF you are elderly, around kids, or immuno-compromised, the shot's better than the flu!

When I compare the side effects from my meds to the side effects from most vaccines, I think the meds are far worse---meds are everyday, flu shots are once a year. That said, I never get flu shots. I always forget right up till I get the flu!

No flu shots here.. no way... havent had one in years... and Im diabetic.. but the risk with fibro.. ahhhh.. no way.......... yes they are clueless.... try not to fret... alot of times.. if your already thinking the worst... just see how are your feelin.... big hugs hun............let us know how ya make out.. :)

I forgot to add that the H1N1 flu shot is linked to miscarriages so if you're pregnant or trying to get pregnant, please don't even think of having this regardless of what your doctor tells you. If you don't believe me, google it and you'll find lots of pregnancy forums where women talk about losing their baby after having the shot. I researched it last year as my son & DIL where hoping to get pregnant so I know it's out there.

I've actually never heard of the flu vaccine aggravating fibro symptoms. I work in a hospital and get the flu shot every year. I was wary of the H1N1 because of the hype surrounding it. The entire hospital staff was given an ultimatum. Either take the H1N1 shot too or wear a face mask all day at work......well I can't wear a mask all day. They give me headaches. So I took both. It's been awhile, but I don't remember any worsening of my pain....who knows...I can't remember shit lately.

I saw what happend to two of my neighbors who were otherwise healty after they got H1N1 last year. Both of them developed skin problems that mimicked psorasis. Neither of them have recovered after treatments from their GP's as well as Dermatologist. Neither of them had ever had any type of health problem, but they have both said that they would take their chance with the flu rather than experience what they have experienced. I have seen the severe problems experienced by both of them. It even spread into their scalp and basically all over their bodies.
I appreciate the warning as I didn't realize that this year's shot contained it, and there hasn't been any mention that I've seen about it containing that combination. Thanks so much for the alert, but so sorry that you were not given the info sheet prior to getting it. Hope that you are all right and don't suffer any ill effects. Keep us posted.
I would contact the doctor since he had warned you last year. I was also told by three different physicians not to take it . I will have to consult them again this year. THANKS. Please let us know how you are doing!
