Good morning, a bit late. I actually slept! That awful fibro-exhausted sleep that you can't really get out of, but hey, it was *sleep* !
So, a bit of nerding out in the vocabulary sense, bc I was re-reading this book and this particular passage again struck me.
(T. Pratchett, "Lords and Ladies")
"Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder. Elves are mervellous. They cause marvels. Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies. Elves are glamorous. THey project glamour. Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment. Elves are terrific. They beget terror."
Now is that a different way to look at it, or what?

Well, we took Mom grocery shopping Sunday. I was wondering, how in heaven's name is Miss-Fire-the-Aide gonna cook for herself, atop the fact we have Meals on Wheels for her?! Turns out, OMG, she called me yesterday, "It's so tiring! I'm exhausted! You have to..." And she listed every step in making chicken and pasta, and I was thinking, "Well, we told you if you got hungry between meals, keep sugar-free yogurt around or something...." Not that I *said* that to my mother.... BUt oh, the temptation!
And I was officially rooked crooked and shnooked out of my part in co-authoring a chapter. They take my outline, my concept, my approach... and then I'm washed off the co-authorship list b/c I don't have the academic credentials behind my name. Hubby is furious, but I'm... disgusted. It's academics for you. Any excuse to grab credit, even if I did write a third of the da*n chapter. The worst of it? The condescending little, "Oh you and (other cheated person) can get chapters in some other book". WTF? Yes, chances to publish in medical texts come along every flipping day... *headdesk*

Now, how's everyone else doing? Seriously? I don't reply individually since this whole Mom thing went Kerbloomahwham back in May, and I feel bad. But I do read and think of you, I promise:-) Candles are always lit in hopes of healing and health and happiness for Fibro BOard!

Soooo.... I've been learning to do things left handed. So I got this little loom thing, to make knitted-looking stuff, meant for kids. And the end result is.... Does anyone know a kitten in need of a sleeping bag in shocking pink? Because that's why my mitten turned into.... Yeah. Soooo.... Affirmative, Universe, Leo and yarn don't mix unless like a cat I am just playing?

In 1902, Fannie Farmer opened her cooking school in Boston, Massachusetts. Most people here have a grand or great-grand mom with a Fannie Farmer cookbook lurking about, no doubt. We owe Fannie for the following: Oversalting and overcooking of vegetables in too much liquid; sugar in every other food dish (her cookbook was sponsored in part by guess who? Sugar company!); and the notion that you need sauce on everything. Actually, we don't owe Fannie, but her cookbook popularity spread the notions farther and wider than previous. *sigh* If you compare her cookbook to one from 1820, you'll find that the 1820 one follows modern health recommendations on cooking methods much more closely. How ironic is that? (Yes, I've done that compare/contrast. I own a lot of cookbooks. Grandma's, mine, mom's, some in Polish, and ones I picked up b/c hey, who wouldn't want to know how they cooked in 1820? Yes, I even nerd out about food. Shocking, right?)
In 1904, the grip-tread tire chain was patented by a man whose real name was, no joke, "Hard Weed". I shall forthwith cease giggling about Great-Aunt Jadwiga and Great-Aunt IMogene....
In 1982, Gaylord Perry (what's with that name, seriously, you're telling your kid "Go get beat up on the playground").... Was tossed from a Mariners game for throwing a spitballl. Those have been illegal in major league baseball since.... (I can sense certain males stirring in their dens, ready to pounce if I produce inaccurate baseball trivia, mwahaha).... in between the 1919-1920 seasons, with the ban takong effect in 1920, but several pitchers were given exemptions. (About seventeen in all.) Spitballs, btw, are altered by adding something ot the surface to change aerodynamics. Other tricks include roughing up a ball with an emery board in one's belt, sandpaper in the glove, vaseline on the crotch zipper (that culprit rightly said no umpire's checking his fly), and probably others. All of this to confound a batter. Joke being, they're called batters because of how bat***t crazy a spitball made them. Is it a fastball, a knuckleball or what? Aiee! Brain cannot process! And swing and a miss, steeee-rike!

OK, off to see a doc later, and then... Y'know, find kittens in need of sleeping bags.
Purrs to all,

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

Today (August 8) is INternational Cat Day. Don't click away! International DOG day is August 26! Both were created to raise aweareness and funds for the well-being of critters. We have many such dayts, to the pint that every day is like an old Catholic saints' day calendar: Take your pick!I'm home, obvs, and still ill. Left calf and foot not great after a tangle-fall, but i'll live. Just can't...
Big day yesterday with babysitting, hardly a moment's peace. Then we went mini golfing in the evening. I'm quite sore this morning.
Something went wrong their regular babysitter. I think she took on too many kids. So my son fired her. They have a meeting today with a new babysitter. Hope it works out or I will be babysitting next week too.
Take care everyone.
Happy to hear that you got some sleep finally! Between doctoring Spartacus, pain and an old cat wailing all night lately, my sleep has really been @$)*(@$y. We do have a Fannys cookbook or two in our cupboard that have been passed down. Great stuff! :-)
idaJoy,
I hope your pain eases for you as the day goes on. Enjoy the time with your grand kids!
I continue to flare here. No better today but at least it's no worse! Sparty is moving forward. He took his last NSAID last night and just about had a heart attack from excitement this morning when I gave him back his rawhide after 3 long days! :-) I still can't slow him down but his incisions look good....no redness, no swelling, "no blood no foul". :-)
Hope everyone has a good, low pain Tuesday!
Kel
Leo, you are making me laugh about the cat sleeping bag. It sounds like something I would come up with and that's why I laugh. I can relate. You've got me very interested in seeing an 1820 cookbook now. My mother has always had a huge collection of cookbooks. I love the idea of candle lit in hopes of healing, health, and happiness for the fibro board. You are great! Sorry about the book, what a let down.
ida, I'm sorry you had such a busy day and the pain is high as a result. I'm praying your son gets a babysitter this week.
Kel, it sounds like another rough day, but I am glad you aren't worse. I'm sure those 3 days were very hard for him. LOL. I wake up to our puppies tearing up their bed. They apparently got a hole in the seam and pulled the stuffing all out. Geez it was a mess.
I feel so tired and in pain. I really want to go home. Today I am meeting a friend for lunch at Johnnie Carino's, an Italian restaurant. I use to work with her and she was the women that hired me and trained me at my favorite job and then they sold the company. I really miss her so this will be nice, but also sad, it will take me back to a time when my life was better put together and managed. Despite my pain then, my life was better and the anxiety not so high.
I hope everyone enjoys their day.
Leo, no contract with the book? I'd be furious too. That's a lot of work to be stolen from you. As for your little bag, I understand how things get messed up. I've knotted things that grew bigger as I knit. Make lemonade from lemons. I'm sure you can find a use for it. And if you haven't read The Mitten by Jan Brett, you just might get a kick out of it.
Ida, I hope it works out for your son. I know you love to see the kids but you also need to protect your health. Babysitting all day then mini golf?! I wouldn't be standing today! I hope you get pleasant rest today.
Kel, sounds like Sapartacus is keeping you from dwelling too much on your flare. I hope it passes quickly.
Twinmom, enjoy your lunch date. Perhaps it will lift your spirits.
I'm so mad that I'm coughing hard again! My ribs and back hurt so much. My hand pain is still there and is continuing up my arms to my shoulders. Hard to do much. So another asthma med that works differently than the ones I'm already taking. Doc thinks this will relieve my chronic cough. I hope so. I've coughed for almost 4 years with no relief. Geez. But another med? I have to check to see if it's a steroid too. I hate loading my body with those. But I need relief from this cough and the rib pain.
I posted three new art classes for the school year and they filled in two days. Proving to my husband I need a bigger space than my dining room!
Off to do paperwork and a breathing treatment. Enjoy your day everyone.
I hope your lunch goes and you have great memories together with your old friend. I loved my job at the hospital too. I sure wouldn't be able to handle a 12 hour shift anymore. Take care.
Bobbii, so sorry that you are coughing so badly. Oh, our ribs are always hurting. I'm not happy that you have the same thing as me, but it's good to have someone to commiserate with. Hope your classes go really well.
Before my son and DIL left for work, I got a call from my husband's mail in pharmacy...or whatever you want to call it. I'm fit to be tied. After my bank already sent them a fax that they received my payment in June, they are still claiming I never paid it. They are refusing to send the next batch of meds. I said, if you don't want to accept my payments, what am I supposed to do about it? You have my money. Then she proceeded to try and get me to pay it again today with a credit card. Are you kidding me? I'm calling my husband's insurance company, and they can deal with their lame pharmacy. Ugh!
My back is really hurting today. Between the couch, grand kids, and mini golf, I'm about shot. Baby is down for a nap right now, and 4yr old is playing in her toy area. I love them so, but they sure wear me out.
Hubby's trip to Indiana got changed, so he is about 45 minutes from our son's this week, so he's staying here. Nice to see him all week.
DIL and I are going out for a relaxing break at a coffee shop this afternoon. Son is handling the kids. It will be so nice to just sit and talk. I love my DIL.
later.....
I pray your mom comes to her senses and allows someone to come in to care for her. She sounds like she is stuck in her ways. Getta love her thou. You only get one mom in life.
I got up an hour ago and I am waiting for my pills to kick in to control my pains. Each day I am growing a little stronger since I have a team of MDs advising me pretty much daily during this really bad flare. Positive thinking is the game plan.
Leo, I loved the Elves quote. Being Irish I was taught about Elves. I taught my daughter about the elves at the end of a rainbow. We would chase rainbows for the Elves and the pot of gold all most every time it rained. That clever little Elf would rob us of the gold all the time. Leo, you brought a smile to my face today and I thank you.
For my fellow Fibro friends, my prayers are with you. My previous Rhuem doc found a cocktail for FB for 10 years. I went to a new MD a year ago who took me off all my meds. A year and half later I am in distress now but I found one of the best Rheum. docs in Texas. He is going to fix me again. I am so blessed. I pray you DS friends have the best of the best care givers. I'm here for you! We can beat this. Prayers to all!
Leo, I'm glad you slept! Poo on the people who screwed you on the book. It's a shame they took your credit, though. That sort of thing happened to me when I started my own fibro support group for vets back in 2008... and the army hospital on Oahu kept telling me they had no space for me or my group (after showing them the work I put into the group, our mission, outlines, future plans, etc). So I took my group to a vet center. 6 months later my group disappeared but one person so I asked where is everyone? She told me they joined the fibro group at the army hospital. I told her they don't have one. She said they do now. Basically, the hospital stole my group and took total credit for it. That's what the real world does, and they don't care one bit who they trample on to get there. It's a darn shame, Leo. I hope your mom can figure out the groceries issue. maybe you can use the kitten sleeping bag as a camera / cellphone case? Or at least know someone who would like that.
When my husband came back from visiting VA & DC he brought back a Lincoln family cook book (yes, that Lincoln). It was a gift for someone, but I managed to flip through a little before he handed it off and I have to say, some of the recipes looked pretty tasty in there. One that caught my eye was a home made biscuits and gravy recipe. Yum.
Well... I'm back to being mad at my husband again. Now that he's gone back to work, he somehow thinks he's the only busy person in the household and... I must be "idle" all day? He beat me home yesterday and when I arrived, he was on a mission to get a 2 hour nap in and nothing I could do would get him out of bed. I was tired but still made dinner all by myself anyway, even though my feet were tired and sore. Finally, when the food was ready, THAT got him out of bed, he happily ate it and then tried going back to sleep. I left only a few dishes for him to wash, I just couldn't be on my feet anymore. When he got back up again he was griping about how he works now and I need to take care of scooping cat litter and other things around the house (in other words, I need to pick up the slack). Oh, you should have seen the steam coming out of my ears!! This morning, when I got up he was gone, those few dishes I left for him were still sitting in the sink. We're back to this again. Back on Oahu, he did this little thing where he would scoot "my" dishes off to the side in a neat little pile. It infuriates me. And yet he sent an email to the landlady to NOT fix the dishwasher. I feel like giving up on him.
I tried working on the PTSD homework some more yesterday before leaving for my appt, and later squeezed in a little while the food baked. And to no surprise, had bad dreams last night (again).
I have rheumatology today. Another acupuncture appt tomorrow.
Back in a little.....
Ida, I hope your son figures out the baby sitting situation. It seems like we always end up paying for the fun we have. Wow, that's terrible about the pharmacy! So, there's a chance you won't have your next refill of meds? Talk about anxiety. Boy, I hope whoever is supposed to figure it out, fixes it asap. I hope your pain calms down soon. Will your son be getting a lazy boy any time soon? Have you ever thought of bringing your zero gravity chair?
Kel, sounds like you've been juggling a lot. The old wailing gave me a crackup, though, since I have my fair share of cat fights around here, especially with the old cat who lives on our porch the last tenants left behind. I hope you have a better night ahead and glad Sparty is doing well.
Twin, hoping you have a good lunch and your day passes quickly!
Bobbii, I hope the new med works for you and your cough calms down. Sounds awful. Does your cough keep you up at night? That's what I hate the worst about it. Healing prayers...
Gail, I'm glad you are growing a little stronger every day. Yay, go Gail!
Phoebee, I'm glad you were cured! I've tried a gluten free diet before and nothing happened. I may have tried quitting corn at one point too (a doctor thought I had an intolerance, but we found out I was fine). I take 600 mg of magnesium / day. But I'm happy this gave back your life!
Bobbii, I can't believe you are coughing so hard again. I can't imagine that pain and discomfort all of the time on top of fibro. I sure hope the new med kicks in soon.
Blue, I wish I could record your husband so he could see what an a$$ he is at times. Sorry girl! Hugs
Angela, I'm so glad you got the pain pills!!! Yay!!
I had a great lunch and sure have missed my friend. Then I get back to work and hear that Addison has not been approved from BCBS for her treatment at Positive changes and it ran out yesterday. Today is going to cost me $200 for her at this special school and if insurance doesn't approve it, she will be back in the public school system. I'm stressed out.
Angela, Hurray!
Blue, grrrrrr at yur hubby.
Ida, still praying.
Phoebee, hey, if it works, good for you! Woot!
Gail, bless you! And here's to your new doc getting things right!
Kel, big soft smiles...
Bobbii, take it easy okay? I dunno about you, but my ribs can ache for weeks if I spring 'em from a hard cough...
Good sleep to everyone:-)
