Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for a long time, but it hasn't really been bothering me much and super tolerable. I started a extra strength, high dose probiotic a year ago and after a month of that I noticed a huge difference in how I felt. So I still take that.
Then it was all of a sudden triggered by an allergic reaction to a medication and now I'm on an almost 3 month flare up. So the tests all came back negative for lupus, which they were really concerned about due to my family history of it. They came to the conclusion that my chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia are just getting worse and flaring up often or staying flared up due to triggers.
They are starting me on Lyrica. I guess I never did as much research as I thought on fibromyalgia because I didn't associate any of my other symptoms (that they thought were from lupus) to fibromyalgia. I looked up a big list of symptoms and all but 2 were explained by that. So I ordered tons of books from the library and I'll be a pro in no time lol
Has anyone had good results with turmeric? If so, what dose and how often?
Also if Lyrica made you tired during the day, did that symptom go away? After how long?
Thanks!

Tumeric is for inflammatory issues. It can be helpful for neuropathy but that has not been my experience. I have taken it for years due to severe OA. It does help with that pain but IMHO not the nerve pain associated with Fibromyalgia.
Lyrica is one of several medications used to treat Fibromyalgia. The other options are Cymbalta, Savella, Gabapentin which is in the same class as Lyrica and muscle relaxers. I have never taken Lyrica. I use Cymbalta and Gabapentin which I find works pretty well for me.
We recommend the book "Fibromyalgia for Dummies" on this board. You can find it on Amazon. It will give you a solid overview of this complex illness and a lot of ways to try and manage it. Take care.
The Lyrica did make me super tired last night and I slept great! But I don't start the morning dose for a week and not looking forward to that. I've had so many weird reactions to medications lately that they have to start me slow. Thank you both for the info!
I hope you get better relief or they up your dose at your appointment. Hopefully your body gets used to it more also, we are all already really tired, we don't need more of it.
Awhile ago I did investigate non medical options and used the following: high dose DLPA (amino acid) to reduce pain, oats avena sativa (herb) to relax muscles and siberian ginseng for energy (plus various bach flower remedies for my mind). And they worked, along with a little bit of nortryptiline, until work changed and misery ensued.
