I hope everybody is doing ok. I haven't posted on here in a few months because work has been absolute chaos. My state of mind lately is starting to frighten me, so I thought it might help to get it off my chest here...
I'm 27 and I've been in the property management field for 5-6 years now. A little over a year ago, the fibro got really, really bad. I think the stress that comes with property management played a part in the progress of my fibro at that point. So, I left my job and began working for a temp service. That only last 3 days before I was offered an accounting position for a property management company. Since I was going to work in the corporate office and not on-site at a property, I thought it was a great opportunity. I've been at this job since March 2015. I really liked my job up until our company was bought by a new owner last September and they changed EVERYTHING in December- our accounting systems, our staff organization, our policies. So many people ended up quitting on-site and at our corporate office, and the new owner didn't want to replace anybody. So, the handful of us that were left ended up taking on the responsibilities of several people. The data transition brought a million and a half issues, especially since we made the change in December of all months... I felt like all of the issues got dumped on me to fix and the people that were actually in charge of the transition were not held responsible. I worked from the end of December through the middle of February every waking moment of my life to get this fixed.
Then, I was given an opportunity to go back on-site and manage 8 properties. I thought it was a blessing since I was so stressed out in accounting. I just started in the new position last week and I'm am struggling a lot... The previous manager left everything in shambles. So, I am again dealing with cleaning up the mess. Already overwhelmed with this task, the lady that took over my position in accounting has been overly aggressive at times and constantly questioning the work I did there. I have openly admitted to making mistakes due to the fact that I was not trained AT ALL and had NO SUPPORT. I know I did the best I could with what I had! Even still, she continues to give me so much anxiety... And now I am supposed to start taking classes to get my real estate license which the company is paying for. I'm just afraid that I will become too overwhelmed and I will waste their time and money.
I don't know what to do. I've been out sick since yesterday due to severe IBS symptoms and I believe it was brought on by the stress. I know my manager is frustrated that I am not at work, but I feel like I can't do this. I also feel like I have no choice since I am my only source of income. I feel hopeless. My anxiety is out of control. I called around to a bunch of therapists this morning to see if I can get in ASAP as a new patient, but haven't had any calls back yet.

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. As for your new job, hopefully once you get the mess cleaned up you will have a better time with it.
I hope you can find someone to talk to about your anxiety. I will be thinking of you.
Could you go back to the temp service and try something else? Just a thought.
Take care of yourself.
I think that you need to tell your replacement to take a civil tone with you or stop calling. There is such a thing as professional courtesy. I'm sure that she is frustrated too but taking it out on you is not right. You did your best under trying circumstances. Working with you in a collaborative manner is the right way to approach the problem. If she can't do that, then end the conversation and ask her to call back when she can be calmer/more reasonable in her tone.
As far as the new position goes, Rome was not built in a day. The old manager left a mess that probably took some time to escalate to its current state. You can fix it but just be reasonable with yourself in figuring out how to do that. If anyone questions your methods, just tell them you have a plan and are implementing it you are able to determine what is actually needed. Running yourself into the ground over someone else's mess is not helpful. And, you would not have been offered the position if someone did not think you were capable.
I want to recommend that you look up box breathing on YouTube. It is a great stress buster and something our fearless leader, Leo, recommends. And, I like your initiative to find a therapist for some extra support. You are a smart cookie.
Just take one day at a time and break down the issues into manageable increments. You can make this work if you can just get out of the panic mode. Hang in there. We are all rooting for you!
Sending hugs your way!
I forgot to mention that my regional manager and the previous property manager in my position have been giving my personal cell phone number out to residents and prospects. I have been out sick for two days and have not gotten any better due to the stress of my cell phone ringing incessantly. Are they allowed to give out my number? Does anyone know if they're allowed to do this???
And, if your company qualifies for FMLA, file for it so your job is protected.
Get some rest and feel better soon!
Also, I suspect that they lady who is giving you such a hard time is doing her own "CYA" at your expense. Sounds like if she can't pull off the miracle that you did in the job, she is setting things up so that you can be blamed instead of her. I don't say that to add stress, but rather to offer possible insight into her behavior. When I am confronted with situations like this, I try not to take it personal. You did everything you could do and the blame lies with the company, not you!
Truly hope you get a chance to talk with someone to ease the anxiety you are going through. Take care and I will be thinking of you as well.

It sounds like a very toxic work environment. Get out if you can. Is your ultimate goal to get your real estate license? I don't know what state you are in, but in CA, all you need is one class and pass a relatively easy exam and you get your license.
You can do a lot with a real estate license beside property management. Maybe you can become a real estate agent and sell houses. At least you can pick your own clients. And the commission is good!
Achybones22- I am in Arizona. We have 18 classes and then the exam. Getting my license is a requirement for this particular position, but it's good to have on my resume in case something ever happens.
Thanks again for all the input and support, everyone!
What you're going through seems completely out of line on there part.
I found an app called doctor on demand. It has fantastic reviews but is a little pricey... if you find yourself really desperate , I suppose it's an option. There is also a free one called 7 cups of tea, but I can't tell you what to expect with that one.
I hope you feel better soon!
