I slept pretty good which only happens when im sick. This IBS D flare has no end in sight i guess. I am fine when i first get up then it gets bad again. At least it stopped so i could sleep last night. It worries me how my sugars keep dropping so i am trying to increase my sugar intake right now. I am having a hard time because anything i eat goes right thru me pretty much. Not good for a diabetic. This started Sunday night. Ugh............ My pain is higher today but were in the middle of getting almost 2 feet of snow. One foot in the last 12 hours so far and more coming down and already had over a foot before that.
Ida -- Things are trying to hurt because of the rain here too. Currently sucking down copious amounts of green tea with honey and trying to ignore the aching.
AngelaJo-- I would be totally eating Christmas cookies right now if I knew they weren't going to land on my hips. But I have no experience handling diabetes so maybe don't take my advice! Hope today is better for you.
OK off to watch the Blue Origin launch. Not the intention of my employer when they installed internet service, but it works!
Ida, our rain has been pretty bad this morning too…sorry you couldn’t sleep, hopefully this weather passes soon
Sorry you didn’t sleep well, Leo, hugs
Angela, I’m worried that your sugars keep dropping, I hope this calms down for you soon
I actually slept but probably only because I haven’t all week. And even last night it took way too long, consequently I slept too late. It’s cold and rainy and my body is not happy. Yesterday I didn’t get nearly as much done as I should have, I was basically paralyzed by anxiety which is happening all the time. I can do stupid stuff that’s not at all important but can’t start things I actually need to do. I managed to mostly finish the outline for my friends commission for her mom. Moving to that from my dad’s gift because it needs to be done sooner. It’s pencil so will go faster than burning but I was hoping I could finish it at work and use my time here for burning. Not looking promising there so hopefully I can get most of it done this weekend. If so, maybe I can get some ornaments for the brewery in. Still not sure on that. I also need to walk Miki, go grocery shopping, cook, clean, make lunches and do laundry. I’m not sure if I’ll see bf this weekend, I’d like to but if I still feel really behind and overwhelmed, I might bail on him to work on stuff (he’s very understanding about that and he’s closing in on finals for school so he’s also got a lot going on).
I just want to say one thing on the whole Covid/vaccine debate that seemingly came to a head yesterday. I don’t want to attack anyone, just my two cents. Scroll by if you want to
I’m a little relieved by last night, terrible as it sounds. That’s been a noticeable contributing factor to my anxiety lately. You guys know me well enough, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but at a certain point things need to be challenged. I feel it’s irresponsible to try to convince others not to get the vaccine that’s been proven safe (yes there’s adverse reactions, as with anything else, but all facts support this being a very low percentage) and effective. It’s literally putting people in danger-not just those who are hospitalized with Covid, but those who can’t get medical care because the hospitals are full. Maybe natural immunity helps some, but on its own it’s not enough and really it’s one hell of a gamble. There are so many people out there dying and a lot of it is being perpetuated unnecessarily. Covid wouldn’t have gone away completely but it doesn’t have to be like this. I’m really struggling with hearing about all the death and destruction, and hearing people tell others to essentially not give a shit. In addition, we’re seeing the same end result in the veterinary industry…not from denying the vaccine, but we’re facing issues that are seen in hospitals-nationwide, we’re short staffed with a level of demand we’ve never seen before. My clinic can’t get sick patients in in a timely manner because we straight up have nowhere to fit them in - only so many hours in a day. The emergency hospitals are at capacity and we have seen them have to turn away life threatening conditions because they’re at capacity (recent example, urinary obstruction in a male cat). When they’re able to see patients, wait times are often north of 8 hours, even for serious problems-they’ll take them in and stabilize but the client still has to wait for updates and treatment plans. What can someone do if they can’t get their pet cared for? Not much. Then there’s the clients…they’re understandably frustrated, but a lot of them take it out on us (the techs, or receptionist in clinics where those are 2 different positions-usually they’re tamer when talking to the doctor). We have never seen this level of verbal abuse. A local ER had to fire one of our clients (very much warranted based on the report, but I’ve never seen an ER fire anyone). This is in addition to the usual “this has been going on for months but I suddenly think it’s aln emergency so why the hell can’t I come in today”, “clearly all you care about is money because if you cared about animals you’d do [insert treatment, procedures, whatever] for free” etc…all the reasons that veterinary professionals are at a disproportionately high risk for suicide. Yes this is a smaller scale and impact than humans, I have the greatest empathy for them, but holy hell guys. We can’t take it. Across the board the state of our country is looking more bleak by the day and there’s no end in sight.
Cheers to you if you actually read that whole rant…sorry to drone on but it’s really wearing on me and I’m far from alone
We got an unbelievable amount of rain last night. I shudder to think what the snow total would have been. I was up until about 3. I had to go out and pull water off of the pool several times to keep the pool from collapsing from the weight. The last time, it was raining so hard that my jacket was soaked through. The back yard has ponds where I've never seen one in the decade that I've lived here. I haven't looked at the front yard yet. We got some water in the garage too but it has definitely been worse so the gutter guards are helping keep the gutters debris free. I got rid of most of the water in the garage. The door is partially open to help dry it out. Right now, we have very high wind with a lot of power outages in the area.
I finished watching "Narcos" on Netflix last night. It is about the Mexican drug trade. It took me about 4 days to watch all of it. A lot of Spanish with subtitles. I speak a bit of Spanish but they were too quick for me a lot of the time. Anyway, I dreamt in Spanish off and on last night lol.
Ida - I am sorry to hear that you are so miserable. I hope that it lets up as the day goes by.
Leo - Rest when you can. Hugs!
AngelaJo - That doesn't sound good. Maybe you should call your doctor. Several days with medication and it still isn't completely under control is worrying. I hope that you will be OK.
Miki - I'm relieved too. The worldwide carnage that position is causing is unacceptable and beyond sad. And, it is costing the rest of us money too. My Medicare premium went up $30 because of it and a new drug. That's just the tip of the iceberg. At this point, I think that hospitals have to make a new plan that involves rationing care for the unvaccinated so the rest of us can get the care that is needed. Harsh yes, but waiting for an ICU bed because of *insert misinformation here" not getting the vaccine may have to come with hefty financial penalties/healthcare premiums and a system that does not guarantee you hospitalization. And finally, this board is hosted by our amazing spokesmodel and brainiac Leo. No one person except a moderator gets to dictate what is acceptable content. Or, essentially continue to hijack the board to expound views that are not science/reality based. Especially when they are well aware of the amount of the extreme anxiety that it is causing both on and off of the board and had been asked nicely to stop.
I know that your industry has had a very rough ride through all of this. I'm sorry for all of the vet techs and animals that are suffering. I'm having the same problem - doing stupid stuff instead of doing things that need to be done. hope that your day comes together somehow.
OK, I need to get off of here. The wind is just howling. I expect a power outage any time. I still have chores to do and prep for pizza and salad dinner. Waves at everyone.
Fantod-- Glad you are mostly high and dry.
Miki-- I felt so badly for the vet staff the other day. Clayton has a bad ear infection. I tried using meds I had on hand, but they weren't working. So of course the vet only had emergency appointments until sometime in the new year. So we went in and sat and waited patiently to be seen.
I was a little annoyed that they kept asking why I thought he was an emergency. No, he isn't the same level of emergency as the multiple dying dogs, but also he can't wait 3 or more weeks when little dude has a candy apple red ear.
Then the poor tech is obviously scared of the dog, who isn't small but the first thing she remarked on were his teeth. (Handsome boy was smiling and wagging at her. He loves all the people.) I also received a lecture on the various causes of ear infections in dogs. Not really necessary, can we now have some meds? No, let's first verify that you have them on flea and tick (yep, buy it from you) and heartworm prevention (yep just picked some up) and should we schedule their vax appointment? Already done for 2022, did that in October.
Then doctor, who I still haven't seen, sends her back to get the swabs for the cytology. I get another explanation of what that is. This time I interrupted because I have now been there for hours and I have already explained that Motley is so severely allergic that she sees a specialist every 6 months and is on multiple meds. You don't need to justify why you need to do the test, the culture tells you what med will work best. Could have knocked the tech over with a feather when I said that.
Finally doc comes in. Massive yeast overgrowth. Could be a one off, but usually an allergy situation if it gets this bad this fast. Doc waits for me to throw a conniption fit. Me, " No worries, if he's an allergy dog. I got a guy to treat that." Doc," Who?" "Dr. P." That's right, so well known that he goes by his initial. I guess it's the vet equivalent of being Cher or Madonna.;).
They put the meds in and we checked out. Bill was less expensive than I thought even with the testing. Poor desk staff seemed relieved that I didn't fuss about that too. Very sad to see everyone so traumatized there.
And the techs who have to ask all the questions about preventatives and exams, probably have to. I'd imagine they find it as tedious as you do. I don't miss asking dog owners about heartworm prevention honestly because way too often the answer is no, and after what Miki went through? It would piss me off. I've also found myself explaining stuff to people who are in all the time and stopping in the middle like, "oh wait your old cat had every problem known to man, you know this", because most people don't and I don't have time to look through the file
Agreed to do 10 more ornaments for the brewery. Because money, I needs it. Only 2 weeks til Christmas, I just gotta push myself to the brink for 14 more days...
I took a nap, woke up STARVING and stomach not hurting and so far food is staying in me for an hour now!!!!! Minor stomach pain no cramping! WOOHOOOOOO
Fantod i been in contact with my Dr btw Doing what she suggestsMy friend is a nurse at the ER here and brought me liquid IV it tastes awful but makes one bottle of water equal 3 in electolytes etc
It upsets me to hear rationing care for the unvaccinated. I cannot be properly vaccinated due to an allergic reaction in less than 15 minutes from the Pfizer vaccine back in March. I would like to be fully vaccinated but cant and it is very scary for me to not be able to have protection. I am allergic to the PEG in the MRNA vaccines and the polysorbate 80 in the J&J, I have no options. I get that you all are referring to people who chose not to be vaccinated but it is still upsetting .
For a long time now (weeks) I can only sleep 3-4 hours at a time. It is wearing me down physically and emotionally. I fell asleep for another 4 hours last night on the couch watching a movie which I do not like to do, ( I would rather sleep in my bed it is more comfortable and I need my CPAP etc ) but I guess I just passed out. I woke up with the worst neck pain that still is not great.
The wind storm we had all day is finally over. I hate wind storms , the sounds give me anxiety. Good news, I didnt lose power and my house is intact.
I am off to watch Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman on CBS. Starts at 8pm which is soon. These original versions were on when I was a kid and are comforting for me to watch even though I still cry a bit during a few parts.
