Rib Pain

I just returned home from 4 hours in the ER.  Went in because I had very severe rib pain on my left side radiating to my back.  The pain was just awful I could barely breath.  Thought it was a kidney stone the pain was so bad.  I was told there was nothing wrong.  Now, I feel crazy.  I literally was naseaus and doubled over in pain.  Has anyone else ever experienced this?  You guys are all I have left.  I'm at the end of my rope.

Has costochronditis been suggested, this is very painful and mistaken for heart attacks. Poor you, has the pain eased now

Costcohrondritis is one of the many perks that is,associated with Fibromyalgia. You were smart to go to ER to get checked out. Heat or cold maybe helpful. It is one of those things that rears its ugly head from time to time and will go away when it is good and ready. Follow up with your PCP to make sure that ER didn't miss anything. Feel better soon!

While I admittedly haven't had a cardio check-up in a few years, I experience occasional chest pains that are indeed mostly on the side of my chest. What Emz and Fantod are referring to is ringing a lot of bells with me.

When I experience it, it comes out of the blue and is extremely painful. Like you said, it makes it hard to inhale because it's so sharp. With me, the bad pain has never lasted longer than two minutes or so, and then it starts to fade.

No they didn't say that but, I guess that's what it is. I've had sore ribs but, never like this. Thank you so much for the posts. I feel very alone in this world right now. Thank you !!! Gentle hugs to both of you!!

Ooh... sounds like costochondritis. It is an overlapping condition / common symptom that is often shared by FM sufferers. I've ended up in the ER from the pain because I've felt like I was dying. Sports bras are usually easier to wear vs. regular bras, no prolonged sitting, no tight clothing / strappy clothes (bikinis are usually hard for me -which sucks since I live in Hawaii), colds and other illnesses can flare the pain, and so can an FM flare.

An anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen can sometimes help.

Yes. Rib pain is what led to my Fibro diagnosis. It was horrible! It felt like someone was breaking my ribs away from my spine! Sometimes the same feeling where the ribs connect to the sternum. Also pain in the intercostal muscles between the ribs. Ugh!!! Gentle hugs.

I fell 8 months ago and severly injured my back neck and ribs. 12 broken bones, none on left side. The last 2 weeks I've had pain on the left rib cage more on the side, radiating to the back. Classic chostrocontritis seems to be in the front by the sternum, but the rib cage goes all the way to the spine. I feel this is what I have too. NSAIDS, ice, rest has helped some. Breathing deeply is hard. Good luck Fibrohyg

Thanks for all the replies. It has decreased, but is still there. Doctor said it can last days to weeks!!
