I know that the doctor kept telling me to take ever more ibuprophen, reaching some pretty high dosages, but they never worked. I never improved.
In my case, it was strange, I think. I was finally diagnosed by a dentist who was treating my TMD temporal mandibular joint dysfunction, which causes horrible pain in your jaw, face, head, neck and shoulders. If you have a lot of pain in those places, I would strongly recommend that you seek the advice of a dentist.
Does your jaw pop when you chew or, as it is with me, just when opening and closing your mouth? Do you have a lot of pain there? If so, you might have this condition and, if left untreated, it can ruin your teeth. Mine are not in great shape and I have had a night guard, bite plate for many years. I guard my teeth jealously now.
Life is always a marathon, but doubly so if you have a chronic illness like FMS/ME. I hope you can get a good doctor who understands as much about this illness as possible. There is a lot of information online that can help you. Good luck and we are here when you need us. Lots of great advice here, be sure to use the archive, too.
I think it's criminal to tell a patient in pain for ANY reason to "deal with it."
Chronic pain has been deemed a disease. Since when did doctors tell patients to "deal with" a disease rather than treat it?
They should be ashamed.
Before I had a formal fibro diagnosis, on about my 4th trip to the same dismissive doctor he actually said to me: "You sound just like my wife, she's always complaining about this sort of stuff." And I said to him: "And are you as insensitive to your wife as you are to your patients?" That took him aback enough that he finally referred me to a specialist for further testing. (It was Kaiser, and I was stuck until I could get referred on up).
Some docs are just jerks. It is our job to call them on it and be a strong advocate for our medical needs.
Keep a detailed journal to find the patterns, and keep positive action with the doctor to get the results you need.
Best wishes.
Ughhhhhhhhh!
