No matter your thoughts on offshore drilling, please keep us here in the Gulf South area in your thoughts and prayers.....the oil is arriving at our outer shores of La. today, and this will be devastating to our state's economics and environment....this area has only just recovered from hurricane damage in recent years. This spill may very well impact the entire Gulf Coast, from Tx to Fla, before all is said and done. Here in La, a large part of our economy and job market is driven by the petrochemical industry, and we have long lived with the benefits and the dangers.....But the tragic loss of life, and the now apparent dire consequences of the spill, weigh heavy on our hearts....
As of tonight, BP is planning on trying to contain one of the three leaks on Thursday....they will try to drop a huge, heavy dome-like structure that will cover the leak site, and allow them to suck the oil up through the water to the surface....sorta like a straw in a cup.
The winds have helped today, but the first sheens are off our coast....the main, heavy edge of the spill is about 5 miles from La. coast.....some has also hit Ms coast. And some sea turtles have been found dead on Ms. coast.
Fishermen on the coast are helping with the cleanup, and a new boom that allows for burning the oil has been brought in....We all sure hope this gets better soon.....
