Hello All,
I have two auto-immune diseases. One is called Raynaud's and the other is mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), which is a combination of lupus, scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis. I have had sleep issues for as long as I can remember. Recently I have been falling asleep almost uncontrollably in meetings at work or while sitting at my desk typing.
I have resisted the diagnosis of fibromyalgia because I didn't think it was real. I only knew two people who had it, and they both seemed a little off emotionally, so I guess that is how I came to the conclusion it wasn't real, or if it was, it was a mental disorder.
Although I do have a lot of problems caused by mctd and Raynaud's, I have finally decided to open up to the fact that I do have fibromyalgia. Numerous doctors have diagnosed me with it. Every time they told me I had it, I thought to myself, "So you are saying that I am not really sick?"
Anyway, my doctor prescribed Modafinal. I didn't know such a drug existed. I am so excited. My insurance company wants a preapproval, so I won't get it until Monday at the earliest. I am so excited! Could it be that I might have energy again? I used to be very active, hiking to summits and such. Now I would settle for being able to go to work and clean my house. I can't wait. I am looking forward to learning more from this group. Take care!

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

then I realized fibro really is real, and just because it doesn't have an identified cause or cure doesnt mean it isn't real. But I still resisted the diagnosis because I didnt want to have to deal with people saying it wasn't real.
then I accepted the diagnosis, but I am still heartbroken because I was hoping for a diagnosis of something that can be cured. Im still dealing with accepting that our lives have changed forever.
Fibromyalgia is recognized by the Centers for Disease Control, The National Arthitis Foundation and the World Health Organization among others.
Modafinal is also known as Provigil. It may improve your energy levels. Have you ever had a sleep study done? Fibromyalgia interrupts the deep sleep cycle with short bursts of high intensity brain activity. Your muscles require deep sleep in order to repair themselves from the days activities. No deep sleep means higher levels of pain too. You should be taking a sleep medication every night . A sleep study would help pinpoint exactly what is going on with your sleep cycle. In turn, the doctor would be able to prescribe medication to help you get proper rest. That coupled with Provigil could be a great help to you.
I'd like to suggest that your purchase the book "Fibromyalgia for Dummies." It will give you a comprehensive overview of this complex illness and a lot of ways to try and manage it. You can find the book online at Amazon.
I hope that you have some success with Modafinal! Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
