My upper back will scream murder minutes or hours after I wear a necklace or a button down shirt with a high collar. I know that it is because the fibro wrecks our ability to down regulate pain, i.e. Ignore something distressing. If I keep wearing the item, the pain will spread down my back to a larger and larger area and my mood will follow suit.
What I want to know is why the collar is distressing to my body. In other words, is this typical to fibromites or is there something particularly different about my neck that maybe I could look into, maybe treat.
Would you please run a little experiment? Would you go one or two days without a collar/necklace/scarf and then start a new day with something on your neck. (I wear my scarf so that it covers my throat and hangs behind me without touching the back of the neck.) I know that this is not a good time of the year to ask because almost everyone lives in a cold climate. But, if you can try it and let me know, it would be very helpful to me. Thanks.

Even among "Nourmas"there are really strong feelings about the turtleneck. I work in a very drafty building so they bother me less than being cold, but many ofmy coworkers cannot stand to wear them. I find that I have summer and winter necklaces because I cannotbear the weight of some without the padding from the turtlenrck.

I don't like anything on my neck as it makes me feel like I'm choking. I wear light necklaces 24/7, but sometimes they do hurt. My skin just feels like someone pulled it. It's not all the time, though. Jackets.... I can't wear certain jackets as it feels like someone has just put 50 pound weights on my shoulders.

Wow, so, i am not alone in this. Seems to be more of a fibro thing than something wrong with my neck specifically. Maybe it's a problem spot because it is very sensitive. I guess, if you think about it, all the nerves from the head come down through the neck, and so does all the body's blood. Very vulnerable spot. Survival mechanism to make people sensitive there....makes sense.
