Now my fibro doctor is also telling me to start zyflamed, a natural antiinflammatory, and wean off Mobic. Says Mobic is really hard on the kidneys. That it is meant for short term, not long term.
"Naturals" terrify me unless they are in their natural form. Reason is that long ago I worked with some researchers who were in neurotoxicology and learned that anything in large quantities is toxic. And the FDA tests medicines, but no one tests natural supplements. Also, this pill has multiple ingredients so that maybe one at x level is not toxic, but what about a mix?
Anyone have any info on toxicity? Those of you who were taking it, how do you feel?
Thanks

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

I tried Zylfamed. I got horribly ill. We aren't sure from what, but after my Gp did some reasearch, he found that several ingredients were *not* necessarily safe to be taken by someone on my other meds. (And my epilepsy if I recall correctly.)
I then tried all-natural turmeric-only pills. I mostly burped. No help there.
I normally love naturals, but I prefer to brew teas (ginger, mint, etc.) or to control the intake via diet. (Tho' the anti-inflam diet did nothing for me at all... yet helps my mom, go figure.)
I say trust your gut, research what's in it, and check out what the Europeans think. They do a LOT more research (legitimate, not just one little dinky study with two people relating anecdotes) on naturals than we do.
Good luck, and hugs!

Good luck
I have blood work regularly to ensure that everything is functioning properly. If there was a viable substitute I'd be open to it, but if I miss a dose I light up like a Christmas tree with awful pain, so here we are.
You go with your instincts and judgement. We all have to do that.
I agree with Leo, I think teas are good because I usually feel the effects quicker if I have a problem with something. I drink Ginger lemon tea regularly because it is an anti inflammatory. I tried Zyflamend because I had to give my liver a rest from advil. I could pop those like chiclets all day long, but with some other meds, I can have problems for my liver (have tested toxic in the past). Your doc sounds concerned and maybe for a good reason. My Dad always says, "If you don't trust your Dr., get a new doctor!" He usually yells this at me, lol. Anyway, my 2.5 cents before my laptop dies and I must force some sleep! Good luck...interested to hear what you decide. JP
Have any side effects or risks been reported from Zyflamend?
A phase I safety study of Zyflamend (described above) reported no toxicity or serious side effects. Some of the patients had mild heartburn that went away when Zyflamend was taken with food.
I have tried most of these herbs, and quite a few more herbs that are thought to be anti-inflammatory. I may have taken them all, since I used to take traditional Chinese medicine formulations give to me by an acupuncturist. I can't say that anything I have tried in herbal remedies have helped much for pain. There are herbs I use for other things, and I take turmeric hoping it might be helping.
Personally, I'm more afraid of newer drugs that traditional medicine that have been "tested" for thousands of years.
Right now the amount of Advil I'm taking is shredding my stomach so i might give this a whirl.
One thing to remember about discontinuing NSAIDs is that there is rebound pain. When I was told to stop Advil before surgery a couple times, I had horrific rebound migraines.
Emily, does your doctor say some of her patients have had good results with this?
Lisa, I have not started the Zyflamed that the doctor recommended because I am worried about it and I am reading up on toxicity. As opposed to many people, I worry about natural products because they are not tested by the FDA.
JPTexas, she spoke out of a general concern about the med, not specific to me because I have not had a blood test. Some other patient had some kidney problems.
I like the thought of teas.
