I'm in the good nail group. They have always been good and my hair is too. Both are even better since I have been taking so many vitamin and mineral supplements especially magnesium. I always get complements on my nails and my hairdresser loves to play with my hair if she doesn't have someone waiting. I have a short pixie, spikey do and she just loves getting that gel and playing with it. I may be falling apart everywhere else but at least my hair and
nails look good.

If it helps, my nails are clear, but have grown thin and brittle, my hair now falls out much more than it should (Big thank you to the maintenance men who come here to unclog my drain all the time!)

I think this might be because I am not on high dose Vitamin D therapy anymore. When I was on it, hair and nails were normal. Now, even though I take 2000 IU per day, it just isn't the same as the high dose treatments.

If it helps I take 5000 U/day plus what's in my calcium and multivitamin.

Not sure why my Rheumy said 2000 IU would be fine especially since I have been on and off high dose therapy for almost 3 years.

Do you take yours in one dose or divided throughout the day? Also do you have to take yours with food?

The D3 sublingual 5000 U I take with my evening meds. No special reason just do it then. It's just a tiny, sweet pill. I my level at work a couple of years ago and was on the low side of the normal range. I have been trying to bring the test on line in our lab instead of referring them out since orders for them have increased as you might imagine. It just takes a lot of time to validate a new lab test and I've been spread kind of thin along with missing time due to illness. One thing to keep in mind is that normal ranges are for normal people. I believe we need more, just my opinion. I know it helps me with mental clarity, mood, and probably fatigue. I am just so stressed by my job. I love it but I really think it's not good for me at this point. Sorry didn't mean to go there. Hope this helps. ..hugs.

My nails were breaking daily. They were so dry. Now I moisterize them night and day. I also eat Jello, which helps with their growth.

Now I have to cut them down as they grow too long and impede my typing. Hope you will use cream for dry skin, rub it in, cuticle and all. A few times a day.. I keep hand cream in my purse.

My nails are average. They would probably classify as nice if I wasn't in the habit of biting them off. Stupid nerves. Lately I've been clipping my nails really short and it seems to be helping to break this annoying and gross habit.

When I finally do let them grow out, I have about 25 nail polishes primed and ready for action! Yep, my nails are going to be more colorful then a My Little Pony pooping skittles on a rainbow! I can't wait!

My nails are atrocious. They chip, split, tear, and peel. I also have Beau's lines on many of them- even on my toenails. I take multivitamins and get a good amount of calcium. I did take Biotin once, but like many people it caused big time breakouts for me. :o( That was the end of Biotin for me. I've also tried collagen supplements but that did nothing for me either.

You can also do topical treatments that absorb through the nail bed. I'm a fan of NailTek. (pronounced Nail-Teek). I've had wonderful results with that program. It's a little pricey at times, but it's worth it.

I, too, had flaky, splitting, tering nails - and I'm a pianist! My nails B.F., were like rocks!

Now I'm back to the fantastic nails! Don't expect ovenight results; don't stop using it even when your nails are hard as granite. Make it part of your nail (and daily) routine.
