Good morning:-)
I am struggling today, friends, b/c of grief, and PTSD, and my fibro not knowing why it feels like April in February. (Seriously, there's tulips starting to pop up. Hello?)... But I wanted to thank you for your understanding, and for this community we keep, and the caring in it. Big group hug!

Meanwhile, iTunes updated and lost me my playlists but not my songs, so I have to reorganize 600 songs. Apple "support" blamed Windows. Windows blamed Apple. I just wanna strangle whatever twit decided to eliminate the "recover" option. Id on't even have it on *auto* update, but I hadn't updated in over a year.... That'll teach me!
Today is computer stuff for Hubby (AKA typing a lot of crap for him) and re-creating playlists I designed 5 years ago. Dull drudgery, hard on the wrists and hands but otherwise... Hopefully "meh".

Happy Presidents Day to the US! Google has a link to tour the White House and our presidents, but honestly, what's to say? We're on the forty-fifth president, there've been fifty-eight inaugurations (repeat offenders, as the joke goes), and it's a bank holiday. It started as, and is still sometimes called by the US gov't, "Washington's Birthday", b/c he's the one president pretty much everyone can agree they like. After that, not so much. In fairness, the same is true of any national leader. I've heard defenses of Stalin, even. (Not great ones, mind you...)
Today in 1673 was the first recorded wine auction, in London UK. (I specify, btw, for the curious, b/c there's also London, Ontario, Canada, and so forth...) As such were private transactions, in general, no details, but the auction of wine only became legal in 1994 in the state of New York, US, so I did dig up that much. There are stories of wine auctions, that is, auctions of wine cellars, prioer to 1673, but there's no *record*. Just stories. (One infamous such story goes back to ancient Rome, wherein a famed conossieur was bribed with the contents of a wine cellar to do a political favor. No idea of the truth, but my state's last governor was bribed with a Rolex, sooo....)
In 1839, the District of Columbia, AKA DC, outlawed dueling. Note that Alexander Hamilton was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr in 1804, over the usual "how dare you say that about me!" in politics. Burr's career never recovered, much like Hamilton. The one theory goes that Burr chose Hamilton among his "foes" b/c he considered Hamilton a peer, a "fellow gentleman". However, Hamilton wasn't considered such due to having African ancestry (or rumored to have such, which was, in those days "as bad"). Historians agree Hamilton probably fired first, but "threw away his shot" as was often done, since showing up and firing into the ground was a time-honored face-saving maneuver. I tell you all that to tell you Hamilton shot a tree, and Burr hit him in the abdomen. Lead balls being rather less aerodynamically designed for such matters than modern bullets, the ball bounced around inside Hamilton and he died after lingering painfully until the next day. However, a "true gentleman" would have know by code duello that the way to throw away the shot was to shoot the ground, and so signal to your opponent that you had no intention to harm or kill. Since Hamilton didn't do that, Burr's defenders argued he was justified in shooting to maim/kill. However, Hamilton wrote before the duel of his intent to not do harm. Unfortunately, Burr didn't know that, and considered the pledge to be, and I quote, "contemptible". Why? It painted Hamilton a coward by Burr's standards. And, since it violated code duello, no gentleman. Which argues against his choosing Hamilton for his gentility. In any case, Burr was the Vice President of the United States when he fired that shot (and you thought Dick Cheney's shotgun accident was odd), and while charges were contemplated, none went to trial. Burr lived out his life as a lawyer in New York City, which was, btw, where the duel took place.... I only threw all that in there, b/c someone asked me if I knew about the musical "Hamilton" and I don't, but I know about the duel.
Oh, the duel that prompted the DC ban? A Kentucky Congressman killed one from Maine, and the ban didn't stop a damn thing. *shrug* Gee, Congress ignoring its own law. Color me *yawn* unsurprised.
Side note: Before becoming US Preisdent, by a good ten-twenty years, Andrew Jackson was shot in the chest in a duel. He killed his opponent with his second shot, with a bullet lodged an inch or so from his *heart*. (The other guy insulted Jackson's wife.) Jackson went on to, duh, survive the injury and deal with a bad reputation. Why? Technically, his first shot was a misfire,a nd he simply re-cocked and re-fired, and by code duello, that was a "second" shot. This probably wouldn't ahve tarnished Jackson's rep much if he hadn't fought over 100 duels in his lifetime. Two words: Anger. Management. *eyeroll*

I'm sure something else fun happened, but that's what I got today. I am off to pray for a sick friend and her life partner, and to... Crap, I dunno. Get a passport and pretend I really will have the chance to go on the big vacay Hubby and I have talked about for 25 years....? I feel silly looking into a passport (last one is long gone), b/c I'm not sure. Will it give me hope or depress me? Only time can tell...
Soft puma purrs and hugs to all:-)

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

... observed a solar eclipse.

I needed that hug.
Leo, I'm sorry you're feeling the struggle today. I'd be upset about having to redo playlists too. At least, enjoy the music while you click away. I've been putting off loading an iPod for a very long time. I hate computer work. And I know what you mean about the travel. My head says yes but I know my body cries no. Sad. Depressing. Frustrating.
I can't seem to get better. Cough has eased but the fatigue lingers. I very easily overdo it now. If this is my new normal, I want a do over! Back to having trouble with my eyes again.
Leo, my body is also confused by the weather.
Have a good day everyone.
I think im getting sick, it went from below zero to 40s and 50s and today rain. Im sneezing and coughing since yesterday, nose ran away cant seem to catch it, im hurting like we all do when it rains, and im blahhhhh feeling and its not just mental its physically.
Well, guys, I am very sick. I caught a cold/virus on Thursday night, so enjoying my hubby's family weekend get-together didn't really happen for me. I had to stay away from the babies, and little kids. No hugs goodbye for anybody. Cooking my part was a complete drudgery. And I was so sick yesterday morning, that my husband had to finish cooking and baking for me while I went to bed. Top that with fibro pain from crappy chairs, and it made for a tough weekend.
We had 4 showings on Saturday. There was no on 2 of them, but I haven't yet heard on the other 2. The Sunday showing was a maybe. Still praying for an offer. I couldn't believe it, but the lady that was planning on buying the house we looked at, could not get the owner to come down on the price. He's selling it himself, and it's been on the market since last June. I don't think he wants to sell too badly. The lady's husband called my husband last night to tell us. So we are at square one again. They have 4 more houses for us to see, so I'm guessing I'll have to drive down to my daughter's again this week. There is no way I could drive right now with the way I am feeling. I slept on/off from 3pm yesterday to 5am this morning. I feel like I could sleep again.
I plan on getting back to all of you today, unless I feel sicker. Take care.
Bobbi, I hope it's not your new normal. I know I can relate, it doesn't take much for me to feel bad. Just standing on a field trip and walking around made me hurt so much. I hope you start to see some improvement, I am glad to hear the cough has eased.
Angela, Our weather has been weird, we will be around the 70s for the next few days. I hope you aren't getting sick, and it passes. Rain rain go away.
I hate Monday's. Anxiety and pain are high, and I just feel like throwing in the towel, whatever that means. I dread marriage counseling and hashing things out this week, I'm so sad about my marriage. We go Tuesday and Thursday.
Have a good day.
Bobbi, I hope you get a do over. You deserve better and sorry your fatigue is still lingering. Hoping you don’t have much on your plate this week.
Hi Angela. The temp swings are miserable. I hope you can get under your heating blanket and feel better soon and catch the cold before it is off and running.
Ida, I hope catching up on some sleep makes you feel better. Sorry that the house stuff still is producing a lot of anxiety. Take care of yourself.
Twin, I understand the marriage counselling. I hated every minute of it, seven years ago. I still get angry thinking about it. I hope your day gets better. Just think of sunshine, your beautiful girls and chocolate chips!
Miki, yay for no poop. Sounds like your dogs dumpster dive did her (or him) in. I hope you can enjoy some warmer weather. We have had a warm 50’s weekend and most of the snow is melted. It is supposed to be above freezing all week too.
This weekend was hard on my body. First I stayed out way too late on Friday night and then had the yard sale thing on Saturday. I did nothing Saturday night. Yesterday Sonny raced in a mud fest. It was supposed to be a winter series, which is usually ice, but due to the temps it was mud. Like 2 ft roots of mud. Sonny finished the race, which is a win for me. The conditions were so rough that the “expert” riders quit the race. That said, I was wearing his old Muck Boots and my legs are extremely sore. I am just exhausted.
I hope everyone who is getting sick tries Leo’s hot toddy. Take care everyone.
Miki, I'm sorry you are hurting so much. Yay for no poop scrubbing, I did it this morning. haha. My daughter actually stepped in it, and then came walking in the bathroom sticking her foot out at me. Good times.
bbmom, I worried you were going to overdo it, I wish our bodies would give us a break. I'm sorry the weekend was so hard on you. I hope your pain gets better and you can relax today. I'm glad Sonny finished the race, that's cool he finished and some of the experts quit the race. Thanks for the comfort.
Oh, and before I forget my partner talked to me about replacing the family room floor last night. Like I need to hear about that when I have thousands of dollars of medical bills pending and a raccoon determined to destroy my attic. I could just kill both of them.
I'm going to stop now because we are all having a lousy time. I'm sorry to read that people are sick, getting sick, struggling with pain, life in general etc. We are going to get through it. Keep your chins up. Thinking of all of you and sending good thoughts your way.
Life has been life here, all of the good and the bad of it. Honestly it's all good except my buddy anxiety has turned into a beast and keeps me indoors most of the time. And panic attacks well, those seem to love me a little too much these days and have even turned into nocturnal attacks.
But I think that is why God created chocolate.
Leo, Happy Pres Day to you! (and everyone else). It's a no school day here (even though we homeschool). And I tried telling my oldest that today was the 1st and 5th presidents B-day celebrations combined. Thank goodness Alexa (our amazon echo) corrected me, LOL. It's fun having a know it all in the house. Sorry you're dealing with so much right now. If you could only dual with your PTSD....wouldn't it be nice to just blast it to smitherines?
Bobbi....hello to you! Ugh, these nasty colds/viruses going around are nasty this year. I hope you feel better soon. I always slather vicks vapor rub onto my feet. Quiets the coughing. Which is what I hate the most.
Angela, hope you feel better soon also.
Ida, ugh, everyone is sick here. I'm so sorry you're dealing with the crud also. What is this...showings, lookings....are you movings?? To happier places I hopesies?
Twins....hunny....hunny! My goodness, I don't like seeing you hurt like this. Let me message you my dear as I went through some rough patches with my Mr hubster in the early years. And a book I read really trasnformed how I saw things. Which helped. Now we are in a stronger than ever mode and it just keeps getting better. Watch for a message from me, okey dokie?
Hi Miki...I don't recall if we met or not. But I'm glad today is not another day on poop duty. When our great dane does that here, I go into ballistic mode and I just feel as though nothing is clean for weeks.
BBMom, iHatePhoneUpdates! Can I put a hashtag on that? If everything is just okey dokie just leave me alone. I have a computer with widows10 that I curse each morning because it automatically shuts down to update. (insert eye roll). Oy, you weekend is making me sore. But the mudrun sounds fun. I'd look like the little piggy just rolling in the mud and let everyone run around me.
Fantod, oh Sweetie, I'm so sorry you're dealing with racoons in your attic. We have set a Wonderbaby World Record here this past fall/winter with squirrels crashing in our attic. We set a trap (repeatedly) and my hubster the computer guru has set up a live cam up there. We wait for the little turds to get trapped and then we relocate them. So far, we have caught 7 of them. And we have an 8th up there again. When we repair/patch the holes, they dig around them and make an even bigger hole. I'm ready to take the flamethrower/blow torch to them. The only reason why I haven't is because well, I don't want to go fill the propane tank, LOL. And that whole insurance thing also. I'm sure they'd frown upon me burning my house down just to get rid of a squirrel.
Hope you feel better soon.
Well folks....it's good to be back. I have lots of exploring to do! Hugs to all of you and Happy Mondays and stuff!
