Meanwhile, iTunes updated and lost me my playlists but not my songs, so I have to reorganize 600 songs. Apple "support" blamed Windows. Windows blamed Apple. I just wanna strangle whatever twit decided to eliminate the "recover" option. Id on't even have it on *auto* update, but I hadn't updated in over a year.... That'll teach me!
Today is computer stuff for Hubby (AKA typing a lot of crap for him) and re-creating playlists I designed 5 years ago. Dull drudgery, hard on the wrists and hands but otherwise... Hopefully "meh".

Happy Presidents Day to the US! Google has a link to tour the White House and our presidents, but honestly, what's to say? We're on the forty-fifth president, there've been fifty-eight inaugurations (repeat offenders, as the joke goes), and it's a bank holiday. It started as, and is still sometimes called by the US gov't, "Washington's Birthday", b/c he's the one president pretty much everyone can agree they like. After that, not so much. In fairness, the same is true of any national leader. I've heard defenses of Stalin, even. (Not great ones, mind you...)
Today in 1673 was the first recorded wine auction, in London UK. (I specify, btw, for the curious, b/c there's also London, Ontario, Canada, and so forth...) As such were private transactions, in general, no details, but the auction of wine only became legal in 1994 in the state of New York, US, so I did dig up that much. There are stories of wine auctions, that is, auctions of wine cellars, prioer to 1673, but there's no *record*. Just stories. (One infamous such story goes back to ancient Rome, wherein a famed conossieur was bribed with the contents of a wine cellar to do a political favor. No idea of the truth, but my state's last governor was bribed with a Rolex, sooo....)
In 1839, the District of Columbia, AKA DC, outlawed dueling. Note that Alexander Hamilton was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr in 1804, over the usual "how dare you say that about me!" in politics. Burr's career never recovered, much like Hamilton. The one theory goes that Burr chose Hamilton among his "foes" b/c he considered Hamilton a peer, a "fellow gentleman". However, Hamilton wasn't considered such due to having African ancestry (or rumored to have such, which was, in those days "as bad"). Historians agree Hamilton probably fired first, but "threw away his shot" as was often done, since showing up and firing into the ground was a time-honored face-saving maneuver. I tell you all that to tell you Hamilton shot a tree, and Burr hit him in the abdomen. Lead balls being rather less aerodynamically designed for such matters than modern bullets, the ball bounced around inside Hamilton and he died after lingering painfully until the next day. However, a "true gentleman" would have know by code duello that the way to throw away the shot was to shoot the ground, and so signal to your opponent that you had no intention to harm or kill. Since Hamilton didn't do that, Burr's defenders argued he was justified in shooting to maim/kill. However, Hamilton wrote before the duel of his intent to not do harm. Unfortunately, Burr didn't know that, and considered the pledge to be, and I quote, "contemptible". Why? It painted Hamilton a coward by Burr's standards. And, since it violated code duello, no gentleman. Which argues against his choosing Hamilton for his gentility. In any case, Burr was the Vice President of the United States when he fired that shot (and you thought Dick Cheney's shotgun accident was odd), and while charges were contemplated, none went to trial. Burr lived out his life as a lawyer in New York City, which was, btw, where the duel took place.... I only threw all that in there, b/c someone asked me if I knew about the musical "Hamilton" and I don't, but I know about the duel.
Oh, the duel that prompted the DC ban? A Kentucky Congressman killed one from Maine, and the ban didn't stop a damn thing. *shrug* Gee, Congress ignoring its own law. Color me *yawn* unsurprised.
Side note: Before becoming US Preisdent, by a good ten-twenty years, Andrew Jackson was shot in the chest in a duel. He killed his opponent with his second shot, with a bullet lodged an inch or so from his *heart*. (The other guy insulted Jackson's wife.) Jackson went on to, duh, survive the injury and deal with a bad reputation. Why? Technically, his first shot was a misfire,a nd he simply re-cocked and re-fired, and by code duello, that was a "second" shot. This probably wouldn't ahve tarnished Jackson's rep much if he hadn't fought over 100 duels in his lifetime. Two words: Anger. Management. *eyeroll*

I'm sure something else fun happened, but that's what I got today. I am off to pray for a sick friend and her life partner, and to... Crap, I dunno. Get a passport and pretend I really will have the chance to go on the big vacay Hubby and I have talked about for 25 years....? I feel silly looking into a passport (last one is long gone), b/c I'm not sure. Will it give me hope or depress me? Only time can tell...
Soft puma purrs and hugs to all:-)

Hiya My internet is changing today and I'm not sure how long the switch over will take, I'm hoping 24 hours at the most, but I'm probably being too optimistic We are changing to another company and going full fibre for the internet. But at least it's changing to the one payment rather than the payment for the home landline phone and a payment for the internet. So I'm not going to be on here...

Name something you hated as a kid that you love as an adult.

Leo, thanks for all the info about the duels. I didn't know about all that or that it led to the ban in DC. I think it's funny how back in those days when you got into an argument you settled it by a duel. With all the fighting going on about Trump, I can only imagine the bloodshed in the streets if that were how we still settled things. Good thing those days are well behind us.
Twin, wow 2x a week for you guys. That's a lot of work, but hopefully it will help. I could only get my husband to do every other week, but I wanted once a week. If you're going to get a marriage book make sure he's for it, too, and will read and do the exercises with you. Otherwise it's waste of time as I discovered. My husband and I were given a marriage book by our last pastor which helped them (they've been married a long time now) and all my husband did was b**** about every chapter and exercise. Was totally pointless. HOWEVER.... he was up for counseling videos instead so we ordered some the other day (a whole series of lessons) and they came in the mail and we watched our 1st video last night. I was so pooped I was dozing off, so I might have to watch it again. The counseling series we bought is called "Marriage on the Rock". Depends on what your husband is willing to do with you. Prayers and hugs going your way.....
Went for a drive out along the mountain yesterday for some pretty views. I've been in a rotten mood for a couple days and needed something to cheer me up. We had a cold front blow in but it was warm and sunny up there on the mountain. It was weird looking down on the cold front blanketing the rest of the island. And then as we drove down the slope from clear blue skies into the gray blanket to go home.
2 people in our church passed away. One man something happened to him that he ended up in ICU on life support, and they pulled the plug yesterday. The other guy I don't know what happened to him. I know their names but can't picture their faces. I'm so terrible with matching names and faces. Back in high school (when I was in 12th grade), while out with a car full of friends we ended up being car jacked one time. As in a stranger who acted like his car broke down asked for a lift to the next gas station got in the car told us to keep driving ended up jacking us and taking all our wallets. Well the cops got him but when it came time for me to ID the man, I screwed up. Besides, I was in the back seat and pretty much saw the back of his head. Oh well. They still got him, thanks to other victims coming forward. To this day, I never give strangers a ride.
Don't know what we're doing today. I'd like to go to a beach, but the winds are too high.
Back in a sec.
Wonderbaby, you have no idea how happy I am to see you. Praise God you are back, and doing okay. I sent you a few messages already, sorry, I'm so excited about your return.
Twin, Hubby and I have differing faith/beliefs, and we manage it, but I've found most atheists are actually realllllly angry believers who don't understand why God didn't turn it all magically better for the asking. In my expderience, anyway. And it's a way for them to avoid things that make them uncomfy (examining their own consciences, for example). So that might be a way to see it. My dad was an atheist of that type.
Big hugs to all. I'm going to try to finally get done what was on this morning's list. It was nice enough here that I took a long walk (slow walk) without even a sweatshirt on. Whoa.
Leo, I hope you are right. We always attended church together in our 20s, and then twins came along and my sickness, and we stopped. I was hoping between Addison's problems, and mine, that maybe he had some belief in God but was just upset and confused. I don't know, he seems pretty determined there is no God, and tells me he will never go to church with me, and be the Christian man I want. Thank you!!!
Sad story, Addison had me braid her hair this morning, and then decided she hated the way it felt and took it out immediately. She began to cry and asked me why God made her this way. It broke my heart.
Ida, sorry you're feeling worse.... have you tried some alkaseltzer cold medicine? Hope your stomach feels better soon.
OK... going to find breakfast and go read everyone's posts...
As for Addison, well, I can only say that when I asked Mom why I couldn't be normal, back when I was aobut 10 years old? Why didn't God make me normal, if God loved me? She asked me, "What makes you think God only loves normal?" Granted, Mom was always one to ask the tough questions, but maybe you can think of something to twist on that?
I'm chatty today on the board, all, sorry. Just avoiding that stupid typing project for Hubby. I can't read his handwriting worth a dang. Even numbers are all weird. His 4 and 9 are interchangeable, and if there's a difference between his 1 and 7? Not seeing it. Zero and six are okay, but 3 and 8? Iffy. He doesn't cross Ts, so I've no idea if it's an L, his "h" might be an "n" or a "b", and "o", "a" and "e" are all alike. Round blob. And I'd be done if I quit bitching and buckled down. Just .... ugh....
Angela, sorry you have another cold. Hope your weather clears up!
Ida, I can't believe the man's house has been on the market that long and he won't come down. Guess he don't wanna sell. I'm glad there are 4 other houses for you to see. I hope you feel a lot better by then. Trying to knock out to-do's in preparation for selling and moving while sick is no fun. I remember when I had to knock my price down (for the right people)... but then some investor guy came along and offered a ton of money, but because he was a rude, snide a-hole, I refused to sell to him. Plus, I wasn't interested in selling to an investor who could turn out to be a slum-lord. I wanted a good family to live in my home who would take care of it. Anyway..... hoping and praying for you!
Miki, glad you didn't have to scrub any poop off today. I take it you have carpets? One of our cats pooped on the floor this morning, I'm guessing Hershey. When she has trouble going she'll go outside the litter box. But it's no big deal since our floors are tile, just don't step in the poo or vomit (which my mom and hubby often do).
Wonder, sorry about all your anxiety. That sucks big time. Do you take anything for it? Listen to music, meditate, or do some breathing exercises? Once again glad to see you back here!!
Leo and Twin, good input about coming from 2 different parents and the ATM thing. I feel similar being that I came from a Christian mother and a Muslim father. All I know is God loves everyone regardless of how you look, what you do, imperfect, or how sick you are. We're all beautiful creations in His eyes. The other thing I tell people is that this world is a very imperfect world (it is fallen)... but it is only temporary and He has a beautiful perfect place waiting for us that is free of pain and free of tears.
Twin, going off of what Leo said above, I recently heard a term coined that really had a huge impact on Me. It was talking about the difference in Christian people these days. And the terms used were Spiritual Christians vs Cultural Christians. There are those who do what it customary to go with the flow and then there are ones who truly give their lives to the Lord. And when a cultural Christian tries to figure out these big life questions, they will rarely find the answers if their hearts are not directed towards God. I suppose this can be said about any faith out there.
As for your little dolly-girl, Addison, when our boys came to me about their Autism/ADHD/SPD issues, I reminded them that these are their superpowers. And what challenges them today will become their super strengths when they grow up. And my job as Mom is to make sure they have the tools they need now to over come these challenges. Our boys do not see their autism as any kind of negative thing. I treat their autism with the same nurturing as I would their needs to learn to walk/talk, etc. And now, that our oldest is reaching 12yrs old, most people don't recognize that he has autism at all. Our youngest has some work to do yet, but he's working on it like a champ.
I'm so sorry your baby girl is struggling with her challenges also. God doesn't single us out. If anything, He draws us closer to Him. He's cool that way.
