Meanwghile, Hubby is up to something. He spebnt a lot of money for us to have a fancy dinner and Christmas thing after. Some fancy lights display that tells a story? Whatever. All I know is, he's either trying to cover his butt or .... No, thi s is my hubby. He's trying to cover his butt. That's his new MO.

Tis the season to be jolly, and make merry and peace on earth! Right? Eh, not so much.
Today in 1864, US Gen Wm T Sherman sent a telegram to the White House: "I beg to present to you... the city of Savannah". Yep. He'd taken Savannah, Georgia, then in the Confederate States of America, which, despite rhetoric since then, was its own nation and therefore an enemy of the US, by its own adherents' definition. The US let it back in easy. The Confederates are still bitching. Frankly, I'd cut them off all federal taxpayer-funded aid if I saw even a single CSA flag in the state, let alone its capitol. But my ancestors were anti-slavery, pro-Union, and died for that. In battle an din POW prisons. So my family tends to take a vefry strict line.
In 1894, Mrs. Roentgen went down in history solely for being Mrs. Roentgen, when her husband took an X-ray of her hand. We still measure radiation in various units, included roentgen. (There's also grays, rads, curies, sieverts, and becquerels!)
In 1961, the first US soldier died in Vietnam. The US was still there as "advisors". Yeah, that didnb't work out.
And in 1984, Bernhard Goetz shot four on the NYC subway, claiming self-defense. People still debate this one, but as a rule, take it as given that in a panic, people don't think. So, y'know. Oh, and don't shoot on a subway. Bystanders abound. Which is another mark against Goetz for me, but I was raised on stricter gun safety than most. Like, removed-the-firing-pin-until-hunting-season level.
And in sa weird twist, in 1998, a unit of RJR nabisco pled guilty to smuggling cigarettes into Canada. Okey-dokey then.

Today (August 8) is INternational Cat Day. Don't click away! International DOG day is August 26! Both were created to raise aweareness and funds for the well-being of critters. Left calf and foot not great after a tangle-fall, but i'll live. Just can't...
I'm exhausted and my back still hurts. I should probably make an appointment since it's been over a month now...it's gotten better, but not 100%. Not sure when I can do that since they don't have Saturday hours, or if I'll have to go to urgent care. Today is busy but nothing like Friday..Jackie doesn't believe me. Oh well. I'm just glad it's not that bad again. I'm having a hard time staying awake today, whcih reminds me that I need to request a refill for my adderall, because apparently they need a prior authorization for the modafinil, and the insurance company is taking their sweet time on that. I doubt it'll get handled this week. All I want to do is sleep through this week...
It's drizzling here and cold. We are supposed to have some slick roads in spots.
I'm fried. Today was tough because I was tired to begin with. I keep waking up too early. I just want this week to be over. One of my clients has cameras everywhere. Now, he's decided to be Chatty Cathy while I'm there trying to work. I hate that.
Leo - Thank you for the interesting check in. I hope that Mr. Leo is not up to something nefarious. A nice Christmas dinner and a light show sounds fantastic but I get what you are saying. Hugs!
Miki - Traffic here is insane. It will be a lot worse tomorrow. I managed to get my scripts handled late last week. The pharmacy was already behind on orders then. I'm sorry that your back is still iffy. You probably do need to see someone. Rest when you can.
Somehow, I have to set up my pill box for a week and finish putting gift certificates into bags. I hope that I have tags for them. This Christmas is just a train wreck in terms of planning and getting stuff done in advance.
Picked up another reservation for January. Now working every day thru 1/11. Send help.

I am working all by myself this week. The second 7 day + vacation for the boss in 8 weeks. Thursday she informed me that she is taking another one “sometime in March “. This means any time off I would request in March would likely be denied.. At this point pace she will want another week off in May because she’s a mother and deserves it. Yes, I am actively looking for other opportunities.
