Never try to understand the Wars of the Roses in English history, in part because they're preceded by wars in France and Spain that quite frankly are even worse.
Today in history, Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, wiping out Pompeii and Herculaneum (vaporized by a pyroclastic flow that left... well, ew.) Interestingly enough, modern science shows that rather than the days described by the anckients, the real killing event of the pyroclastic flow (the collapsed superhot ash cloud) took maybe 15 minutes to kill, and the ash, mixed with moisture, cemented the remains. Prior to that, it was escapable. Mostly.
Today in 410, the Goths sacked Rome, ending the Roman Empire for good. Mostly. Except for all these Roman-based languages and customs and stuff. OK, so they took over the leadershgip but Roman culture snuck by.
In 1572, the slaughter of Protestants began in France, as the Catholic French decided to finally win a war. Welcome to St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre. While some claim 70 thousand died, the real number is about ghalf that. We're not underestimating. It's a habit in medieval chronicles to exaggerate to get people to read and listen to you. (Kinda like news today, really.) Thsta said, it was stilla heinous crime, and unforgivable, IMO.

I'm exhausted, my period is about to start, I have my ultrasound at 730 tomorrow morning (WHY did I think that was a good idea?), and I'm just not motivated. Still anxious about Miki's surgery and I just want to get it over with.
