Good morning from the Cranky Cat! Oh, I woke up on the wrong side of every bed ever. Just... tha tkind of morning after too long since decent sleep and solid food. (Back t solid food now, yay!) Anyway, not aided by coming downstairs to discover a certain spouse of mine (and I only have one, mind you) left the counter covered in dirty dishes b/c ---- it's not his job to put away clean ones, and as I had not done so while doubled over yesterday in menstrual pain, well, why should he do so, and ... Really? Yep.
Oh, and our car is getting a "clay mask". I can't get one, but the car can. Apparently, this is a deep cleaner to remove layers of .. OK, it's the same thing as a face mask for people. Me, no. Car, yes. Somehow, I'm unamused.
Then again, it's Monday, right? Mad/angry and mad/crazy times here. Especially if you add in our darling fuzzballs ---- all eight of them if you don't count the fox still using my front bushes as a hidey-hole. Yep. A fox. If he ever stays into decent light, I'll get a pic for y'all. Lovely red fox, male, just hangs out and goes home. I think he preys on things that visit the neighbor's trash can. We're certainly not seeing any rodents, and he's in good shape!

So, is March going out lamb or lion in your area? Lamb here. Bleating some rain, looks like.
***
Where did we get that saying anyway? Depends who you ask, but apparently at some point, a weather proverb in the 1600s onward stated "March hack ham, in like a lion, out like a lamb". By the 1800s, this was "If March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb, and vice versa". (Hack ham = March cuts/is cold like a knife in meat, IMHO, not somem obscure word that allegedly meant "annoying"... But htat's me. Etymology experts prefer the obscure word. It could also have been "March hack hand". Who knows?)
Anyway, it never had a fourth line, because nothing rhymes easily with "lion" other than "lyin', dyin', cryin'" etc. In American English, I should say.
Do April showers bring May flowers? Given that phrase, like the one about March, originates in the UK? Ask the English. The rest of us know full well we may not see flowers till June, or as early as March, or... Hmm.
Also, allegedly, "a dripping June puts all in tune", but I doubt that one somehow... Growing season!
Which leads us to this bit of folk wisdom from Portugal: "To be happy a day, take a wife. To be happy a week, kill a pig. To be happy for life, plant a garden." (Since wives in my family plants gardens and kill pigs, I protest!)
Now, there is folklore for every month, but a lot is weather or farming. E.g., plant crops by X date, etc. Most of which, again, holds for western Europe or the UK, and is a total fail in many other areas. Or sailing.
Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Well, that meant the storm system had passed to the west, and the night would be easy. This, of course, presupposes that the weather systems are moving east to west (like hurricanes).
One I never encountered till living in the US South? "Rain means the devil is beating his wife".
My fave is the saying "After clouds come clear weather". Yeah, no. Where I grew up? Clouds were pretty much, y'know... Always around. A fully sunny day? Weird. I had sunshine madness when I moved to the US South. So many days without even a cloud in the sky?! I still wig out sometimes. Hubby, btw, was raised with sunshine. He wigs out in th ecloudy weather, LOL.

OK, and on that note ---- stay safe, soap and hope! :-) PUMA POWER!

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...
I'm so frustrated today. Went to my parents house yesterday to pick up some fruit my dad got me at the store yesterday, and found out *after* I was inside the house that my dad has a "chest cold". Of course they're not quarantined, still working, my dad goes to the grocery store almost daily to hit all the sales. Even though both of them are over 60 and he wouldn't qualify for a test unless symptoms become severe. My mom figures if he doesn't have a fever, headache or sore throats it can't be corona...I think that's a stupid and selfish assumption. Even if he doesn't get sicker, he's possibly exposed me, my mom, all the people at the delivery service he works for and probably every grocery worker in town. Yes it's possible that he just has a cold but with all this going on I think he's an idiot for not following the guidelines and playing it safe. I'm not going back there until his symptoms are fully resolved, even though if it's corona I've already been exposed (he's walking around the whole house coughing, even though I stayed 6ft away and washed my hands after I know it can hang in the air). And if he develops a fever or his symptoms worsen, I will self quarantine to be safe. Same if I develop any symptoms. I'm just upset he would put so many people at risk just because they don't want to stay in the house for 2 weeks (I can see why my mom doesn't want to stay home and listen to the graphic details of every cough and then every illness he's had since infancy, but that's still not an excuse). I let my boss know the situation and I am still working for now but will make sure to get an update from my parents daily to gauge if things have progressed at all
And for some reason, Dalhia new toy is a scrap of denim fabric from a sewing project. OK.
I am really sore with a sinus headache covering the entire left half of my head neck and shoulder. Can't see very well because my vision is so blurry in that eye. Living in a 110 year old house with original windows does not help on cold rainy oh wait going to 68 and rainy but wait then back down to 48 and rainy days. I'll be lucky if more of our plaster ceiling doesn't fall in. Oof, as long as one of us or the dogs isn't under it.
Oh jeez Miki, I would be very frustrated too! No one wants anyone who is sick out and about. He should definitely be home and taking care of himself so that he doesn't get worse, even a regular cold can cause pneumonia, that is how I got it.
Angela I am so sorry you are in so much pain! Please take good self care and let fiancé care for you.
Sending warm mugs of cocoa to Fantod, Wonder, Blue and all of our family.
The weather has been crazy here. Seesawing between 60 and 30. High wind, rain and some sun.
My partner is killing me slowly. He is barely helping with housework. Making even more messes and just leaving them. And, making long overdue repairs to things. While I’m grateful for the latter, he leaves me to clean up that on top of everything else that I normally do. I have a *terrible * temper so trying to communicate to him calmly that none of this is acceptable is really hard. Between that and probably going into a flare, I’m going to lose my mind. Another month or more of this is not what I need. For some reason, he can’t look at me and see that I’m not good right now. I don’t get it...
Using a clay bar on a car is not a bad idea especially if you are in a warmer climate and it isn’t garaged. It pulls the oxidation out of the paint and will preserve it much longer. Not great timing for sure but I can can understand doing it. It can be a DIY project but I don’t see Mr Leo doing it if he can’t even unload the flaming dishwasher....hugs
Miki - I am sorry that your parents don’t seem to grasp the seriousness of this pandemic. This morning, I saw that some church in FL was packed yesterday. I hope that your Dad just has a cold and nothing else. Take care of yourself and do whatever you think is prudent.
AngelaJo - I feel you in the pain department. Do what you can and take care of yourself.
Maynard - A sinus headache is not what you need right now. I hope that it eases off. Everyone is having allergy issues here. Between the wind and the rain, I’ve had some issues too. Thanks for the shoutout today!
BTW - I saw an article yesterday that said we should all be wearing a mask if you need to go out. This is contrary to earlier findings. This is a respiratory illness that can be transmitted by people who have no apparent symptoms. As of today, Australia has implemented wearing masks in public as mandatory.
Shoutout to Milily, Blue, Ida, Twin, Wonder, PainedOne and Zombie. Everyone stay safe and well.
Leo I can feel your frustration. Your hubby is like most men who just doesn't have a clue. I hope you start feeling better soon.
Miki I don't blame you for not wanting to go to your parents. If they can't be responsible enough to let you know that they aren't feeling well I would stay away too. I will pray you don't get whatever your dad has.
Angela I feel your pain. Mine has been acting up for the past couple weeks and sleep is next to impossible I hope it lets up soon.
Maynard sending you hugs. I have severe allergies and live in an apartment complex that is over 50 years old. It is not kept up and mold is everywhere. I can only imagine having to duck falling ceiling pieces though. I hope things warm up and dry out soon.
I am amazed at how many people are still driving around and shopping here. My partner took me out for a drive so I wouldn't lose my last nerve. I get a 30 minute drive once a week and even though I don't go inside any stores it helps.
Oh Fantod I would have already lost my sh*t with my partner if she had left her mess for me to clean up. You could pile everything in his favorite chair as a way to get it through his head that this is his mess.
I hope you all have the best day possible.
HOMEMADE MASKS: I have made a few hand-sewn (although who invented the pattern has a very different face to *mine*!) BUT for a pinch? Ye Olde Handkerchief-y type material, doubled or tripled, and with a paper towel in the folds, is the quickest/cheapest/easiest way to go.
We are now mandatory Stay At Home in my state. I can't even go hand out the four masks I'm still sewing. So I guess *we* are using them!
Autumn I am so sorry to hear that your partner and you are stuck in such a horrible situation. Try to keep your mind busy with other things right now, the more we think about the negative the more us anxiety types worry. 1/2 an hour of news a day and that's it. Saying prayers for you and your partner.
