Good morning,a nd hopefully this finds our FLoridians still with us. Hurricane Irma is a slow mover, alas. Again, NOAA predicts it's end as a tropical depression in (now) western Tennessee, Ohio Valley, so please be careful of the rainfall potential over the next few days if you're in that region.
Today, trivia that starts with... M for Monday. I'm reaching, I know. Sorry.

Mosquitoes have a favorite human sweat smell!... It's sweaty feet. Also, they are attracted to Limburger cheese, which really does remind me of stinky gym shoes, so fair is fair. What is really weird is that anyone studied which body part sweat a mosquito prefers. Seriously? Foot stink? Ew. How about a smell they hate so they go away? Like, y'know, Avon Skin So Soft lotion back in teh 1980s was awesome that way. No idea why, incidentally, as they don't carry it now in the same formulation.
Meerkats aren't cats. The'yre mongooses. Which aren't called mon-geese. My dad tried to use that for Scrabble word once, to be a smart-a**, but that was his way. Testing us constantly, smirking to see us get it wrong, baiting us to get us riled up, and generally making a meerkat look cuddly by comparison.
The India gray mongoose is, btw, the species that is noted for killing snakes, such as cobras. Documented. Rikki-Tiki-Tavi by Kipling wasn't all bullspit. For whatever reason (maybe co-evolving where there are some darn deadly snakes, such as cobras and the dust krait and similar), that species of mongoose has acetylcholine receptors that make the INdian gray mongoose resistant if not immune to many snake venoms. The same species eats scorpions without regarding the stinger, btw, so presumably that holds for scorpion stings. Sadly, as cute as Kipling's mongoose was, the real Indian gray isn't so adorable. Kinda like a cross between an American possum and a ferret, for my money. Indian Gray Mongoose
The mockingbird really does mimic the sounds of other birds around it. So it's strictly speaking a mimic-bird. It's a useful skill to know how to cry like a hawk if you're not a hawk, let's face it, and some kinds of mockingbird can learn new sounds all their lives. Scary smart? Yes. THey also remember enemy humans up to 60 days in some species, and enemy cats possibly forever to judge by the mocker who scolds LilMiss so regularly.
A mussel is a bivalve mollsuc --- think "opens its shell in two halves" --- but belongs to a family of critters known as mollusks (or molluscs, depending on your English), which includes snails and squid, too. Basically, it's a big old mollusky family.
Acidification of ocean waters by a tiny amount can affect a mollusk's ability to hang onto its habitat (bed), and weaken their shells, which are made of calcium carbonate where shells apply. So it's like adding vinegar to baking soda creatures' water. Ouch. OK, not that dramatic, but same idea. Consider that bone dissolves in acid, too, so when you have acidified water (and since pH scales are logarithmic, not straight algebraic), even a tiny tiny change in pH can make a difference.
While we know best the praying mantis, the mantis family of insects has over 2000 known members. THe praying mantis male has his head snapped off and eaten while he's fertilizing the female. She eats him down to his --- well, his private part --- and that is documented to sometimes keep going when nothing else of the male is left. I leave you to fill in the sniggering for yourselves.

May your Monday be peaceful. LilMiss is recovering beautifully, and the skunk drove off the raccoon from the lucrative "garbage can inspection" job, by the smell of things. Yeesh. Mama Skunk took her babies around earlier this year in a parade to show them how it's done. There's Mama, and three little ones, in a line, and she'd stop, and use her paws, and folks, if you don't secure your trash well, don't blame cats and dogs, look at the skunks and possums first. Raccoons are third on the list of usual suspects.
Off to deal with laundry and stuff. My pain's been too high for me to do the usual daily 20 minutes of low-impact aerobics but today seems safe to try again!
Hugs to all!

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...
I'm around also, just kind of trying to get myself mentally and physically back in the game....well, at least in some kind of game if not in "THEE" game. I hope you all find some peace today.
AngelaJo, yuck, a man in the group! I wouldn't like that either. Glad PT went well. Glad you had such a good treat. Yummy!
Blue, have you considered bashing your husband with a broken bedside lamp? Just kidding.
OK, I gotta dash but had to report Lil Miss is definitely perfectly fine. She's bouncing around our porch chasing a moth. Yep. business as usual.
Ida, I have no idea what a sigmoid test is... but chicken noodle soup sounds good after being poked and prodded (if that's what they do)?
Miki, perhaps introduce him little by little? Maybe to the movies 1st where you can't really talk. 2nd meet for coffee / drinks? Dinner another time?
Thanks, Twin. Sorry to hear about your pain. I'm with Ida about finding a Christian counselor. I was thinking recently how I would like one too. And how our marriage counselor might be too secular for us, maybe that's why it's not working. Unfortunately there's only one Christian counselor here and they don't take VA insurance. Do you think you'll look one up for yourself? Does your insurance cover it?
Just broke up a cat fight. Hershey chased "Carmen" (a neighbor's cat) out of our yard. All she did was come chew on some grass. Hershey pressed and pressed on her... even when she backed off the property, she continued on her. If Carmen moved a muscle, Hershey growled. Hm, a bit hypocritical since I know Hersey often goes into Carmen's yard. Hershey's evolved into quite the territorial bully.
Angela, I hope group went ok. 2 hours is too long, don't know how you do it back to back with PT.
Susan, I'm glad Leo is coming out of the woods. Poor kitty after having such a reaction. Yes, I hope mom's attention will be more on her new bf. Lately she's actually been obsessed w. my SIL, which isn't good either. She's an awful person and never matured beyond high school.
Fantod, gardening has a way of doing that, yeah? We did some Sat and like you, I was paying for it Sun. My legs were on fire, even though I know I wasn't in the sun that long. Take it easy, do what you can. Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry you have been so sick, Autumn. Rather scary. Thanks for the prayers. I will return the favor.
Now here is something that is aggravating. On one side of us our neighbors are for the best way to describe, way less than average intelligence. We have watched on our security cameras how the one who does the yard work would pile the leaves up in little piles and leave them. Then she will sneakily blow a pile over, another day casually move a pile with her foot. We have a security camera, she knows this, like "we can see you do this you fruit cake!" There "were" 3 trees lining the center of our front side yards, more on our side, so city said congratulations their yours (3 came down after last yrs cane). She would complain about the leaves, never rake them, would wait for the wind to blow them to other houses. This is the type of neighbor that shows up the second you go outside and shadows you but on her side of property, trying to hide that she is watching you. Freak! We are such good ppl, lawabiding, keep a good neat yard, etc, we don't deserve that junk. She is the kind that after a hurricane gets out really early, picks up tree stuff and reaches over her fence dropping it down behind our bushes. Lazy and a nut bar. The kid we thought was 15 is actually 32. Knew he was arrested in 2015 but didn't know why, and just found this May he got arrested again. NOw he is a weird one too. My hubby found some legal stuff online telling how he is a stalker and oh my gosh, there is some really scary stuff. He tried to get my hubby to fix his car, no the first time, no the 2nd time, the 3rd time he came over and said "so when are you going to fix my car." These 3 ppl should be in a group home and not allowed in a neighborhood...EVER. They don't play well with others.
Today, we waited 'til the wind finally died down around supper time and cooler to start some clean up effort from the hurricane. She (the yard stalker) came out of nowhere and there she was, mirroring us, but she has learned to not follow us along her fence. I saw her over there, doing nothing, moving nothing, but making her little noises. When we said we were stopping for the night, she disappeared, but my hubby went up front and she showed up again, the shadow. I have decided to nickname her Mrs. Cravitz, though she is not a Mrs.....just fits! For someone to have to watch our every move must have some really bad stuff they are trying to hide. I mean they hid that stuff about the 32yr old kid (the other girl's kid) and it was seriously scary stuff. So if anyone has any idea how to get a stalker neighbor to give you "freedom" to roam around your own dag gone yard for pete sake!!!!!!!!!! let me know. They never speak to us unless they want something, then they start being nice 2-3 weeks ahead of whatever they are trying for. Watching their behavior for the last 5 years, like wow, there are ppl that truly act like they were born yesterday, 'cause they act like they absolutely don't know anything .....one is 54, then 60 and her stalker son 32. The 54 year old has a boat. Didn't use the boat much, sold the boat, bought a bigger one (which doesn't fit the driveway, duh!!) and still doesn't take the boat out much. I can go on and on... there is so much stuff. I'm running on only like 3 hours of sleep the last couple days, so please forgive me if I ran on...........
