I kept waking up last night, so uncomfy, couldn't figure out why. Then realized my cat was meowing once, then running to the stairs. Every, oh, 45 minutes.

Today ihn 1492, Columbus set sail on the ocean blue, about to take smallpox, Eurasian syphilis, measles, and whole new strains of intestinal yuck to the New World. Between that and slavery, he depopulated quite a lot. Well, he and his men.
BUT the New World struck back. ITS syphilis was fairly mild to natives, just as Eurasian syphilis was to them. Then the two got together and had a DNA hoedown, and it became the Great Pox for about 200 years in Europe particularly. Or so says some recent research. No matter how you look at it, Columbus's return from the New World sparked the Great Pox, be it DNA whoopdedoo or something else. (One study using two Chilean mummies claims Europe brought it here, but the sympatoms don't match, and the genetics indicate the Columbus expedition brought a virulent form or combined mutant back. It's highly likely syphilis in its *new* form wreaked havoc in the New World, but under smallpox, measles, etc., who could tell?!)
In 1777 at Fort Stanwix (or Stanwicks), the US flag was flown for the first time officially during battle.
Today in 1914, Germany declared WAR! on France, a situation so common that most peopl eslept through it. France and Germany again, yawn. Then on the next day, the UK joined in, and WW1 began. All because a guy died in Serbia. Yeah, don't ask European politics to ake sense.
And today in 1936, at the BERLIN Olympics, US runner Jesse Owens took the first of four gold medals. Suck on that, Adolf :-)

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
And now Jackie just got in and started raging about all sorts of things...please kill me.
