Do you ever feel like you lost a very important part of yourself with this disease? I’m one of the lucky ones, in that my family are very supportive but they can’t walk in my shoes. It truly makes me feel lonely a lot of the time. That’s why I’m here to hopefully find friends who understand and we can support each other with our daily struggles and accomplishments as well. If you could use a friend, just someone to listen on a bad day. I’m here.

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

We have a many-years-long tradition of a morning check-in where we all chit, chat, discuss, complain, ask, answer, etc., as a rule. (That's why my avi is all over the board. I'm currently the Caretaker of the eCheck-in. The last person said she'd be back in a few months, and taht was a few years ago...)
We all have that sense of loneliness, even when we have supportive family and loved ones. My hubby does his best, but ... Yeah. That "but..."
Anyway, welcome, and feel free to lurk or answer or neither on check-in:-)
I agree about feeling very lonely. I do not talk about it with friends or family because they don't understand. Although, I suspect that my youngest brother may also have it because he is always in pain (I wish he'd go see a specialist and get checked out). Suffering silently is the worst way to live. We're here for you too, if you ever need to vent, ask questions, or just feel like saying hello, don't hesitate to drop in. Hope to see you around.
social activities or wants me to commit to something that I cannot. For me it brings up a lot of feelings (feeling left out, inadequate, shame). I don't talk a lot about FM
because of my experiences in trying to explain it to others.
I have brought it up once (and that I have Lupus) at work but never brought it up
again. I don't want to belabor the point. Same with family--after you've told them dozens of times, it makes no sense to continue to whine and moan.
When I can I try to be positive; when I am feeling discouraged, I try to carry on. But it is a really tough illness.
