I was diagnosed with fibro a month ago, after months of post-pardum joint pain, followed my muscle pains.
Every time the fibro flares, usually around my period, my right knee swells. Not terribly, but noticeably. I am wondering why it is swelling. All of my blood tests have been negative for RA/lupus, etc, so I don't know what is up with the swelling. I did read fibro can cause bursitis symptoms, wondering if that is maybe what it is. I do have lots of joint pains, but they seem to be tendons/ligaments, not the joint itself.
Anyone have any joint swelling? If it keeps up, should I get it checked by an orthopedist, or just assume it's part of the fibro? Thanks!

Yes an ortho would be the one to see.
It could definitely be bursitis because if it was Lupus or RA, you'd expect the swelling to be symmetrical.
I have inflammatory arthritis/connective tissue disease and bursitis x2 in each knee (Prepatellar and Infrapatellar). These are on the FRONT on the knee. Prepatellar is more common than Infrapatellar.
Your GP should be able to diagnosed this. It could be osteoarthritis, have you had an x-ray done?
You can have them drained, but the inflammation is likely to come back again. They generally treat it with NSAIDs. They're fairly common, but aren't related to Fibro.
