I'm not sure whether this would or wouldn't vwork for fibro. However, j do know that it worked for my severe migraines that put me in hospital. I guess the only issue at least here vin Australia bis that medical staff won't send people home hooked up to an IV and they definitely won't put a person in hospital indefinitely.

I asked my pain management specialist about this procedure. He was adamant that it was a dangerous procedure. He would not even consider it. Last I heard, this has to done in the hospital as an inpatient. I have a cousin in Canada who has tried it for Shingles post neuralgia pain several times. It works for a couple days and then she is back where she started. I dunno if it is even worth considering. Take care.

Thanks all. We hear so much about things that are supposed to help us, but I try to get some first-hand info when I can. A hospital stay for such a dangerous procedure and a short amount of relief doesn't seem worth it after all.

What Fantod said is what's always puzzled me. Lidocaine is a topical anesthetic, and fairly short-acting. I can't figure out how it would do anything more than very short-term relief.

Call me skeptical, but it reminds me of the doctors who will only give injections for pain - my gut says it might just be another way to make money.

This isn't something I would do since it's probably a temporary solution and sounds dangerous. I'm guessing if I did do this kind of therapy I would have to keep increasing the dosage each time to have the same results? Anyway, lidocaine doesn't work for me, dentist have to use the stronger stuff and plenty of it. Same with my eye doc when they did the plugs in my eyes, they had trouble numbing me, too.

Ummm.... Does anyone else here know that lidocaine injected into you can kill you? OK. Well, it can. Lidocaine is used as an emergency cardiac arrhythmia drug, at carefully monitored doses, but is otherwise considered to be strictly useful *topically* only, due to risks of arrhythmia, respiration, confusion, and impact on kidneys and liver.

And it has, in fact, been used in homicides. Freaky but true.

Which is why all lidocaine near me is topical only, at low concentration, for good reason.

Unless it was for advanced cardiac life support, No Way for me.... *shudder*

Geek-out courtesy my mom studying for cardiac care certification a long time ago. Lidocaine was/is a go-to drug, and after I helped quiz her for three flipping months, *I* could pass the exam on paper.

Ummmm no Leo, I didn't know that! The doctor gave it to me as a mouth wash!!!!! WTF??? It made me feel weird so I threw out after one use.

I'm on so many pills and crap for the bipolar disorder that taking anything else just doesn't sit well with me. So even without the knowledge from Leo, I'm safe LOL (And no, I don't think that it's funny)

No panic, don't *swallow* is all. I got it in a very weak concentration with Mylanta for acid reflux once, and it was *weeeeeird*!

Yeah, I can't see IV lidocaine being useful. I do know sometime it was used in reallllly low doses injected for severe migraines, but there's better migraine meds anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I've had lidocaine as a patch, loved it, but they don't come in a *body-sized* patch. *sigh*

I personally wouldn't use this type of therapy - dangerous potential too high. The pain clinic I went to in 2004 wanted me to try it - that was a treatment they used often.

Lidocaine skin patches can be helpful - it helped me get through work the last 2 years that I worked ( 2001- 2003) I had good insurance then . Last I knew Medicare will only cover it if you have shingles - not sure about other insurances.
