BUT...
Did you know that women who get a Bartholin gland cyst almost always get it on one side only? Rarely do you get both at once. This is good, btw, given that these things are at a *delicate* area to say the least. Gentlemen, you don't have 'em. You're free of this concern!
So what causes a cyst, anyway?
Generally, no matter what? Something irritates the gland so there's swelling, sometimes infection, and you may need to remove the gland after it calms down if cysts recur. What can irritate the gland? Take your pick. A hair follice, injury, blocked duct, take your pick. Basically, everyone will have a cyst somewhere of some kind at some point. It's life.
It's the infections that are bad. And then there's the ones that ooze smelly stuff but aren't infected. WHAT?! you say. Yeah, no joke. Some cysts in/of the skin will ooze a smelly fluid. It's the built-up gunk that the gland would've "expressed" if permitted.
Y'know why you're not supposed to pop zits? Stresses the skin and there's already infection and injury at the zit site. You can *cause* a cyst to form. Fun times! (Also, worse scars. And this is not the same as cystic acne, which is a whole other ballgame.)
Typically, a cyst comes and goes on its own, indicates nothing worrying, and you're fine as long as it doesn't rupture and spread infected gunk. That's fairly unusual.
That said? My dad managed it. He was in a fight in a bar and got a chair over his back. No joke. Someone saw too many damned movies. Anyway, it bruised his ribs and pancreas. A cyst formed on his pancreas, and became infected, and ruptured, spreading microbe-laden goop through his abdomen where such goop should not be. He collapsed (and was driving at the time), and the infection went spetic within a matter of hours. He was hospitalized for almost 60 days. I was with him when he collapsed and steered us home, and he was conscious enough to manage the brake, and then we got home and my mom was all, "Yeah, yeah, ha ha, I am not falling for his joke." I was like, "MOM! NOT A JOKE!" and she took him to the ER, and that was the last time we saw him at home for nearly two months.
Moral? DO NOT GET IN FIGHTS IN BARS! Well, that, and don't prank people enough that they dont' believe you've really suffered a serious health incident.

Anyway, many cysts will never irritate you, so I'm off to take my cipro (ugh) and relax. I tried to crochet a doily that turned into a hat, so I think I'll try to crochet a hat and get a doily!

Leo, so sorry to hear about your misadventures. Hopefully the cyst will calm down quickly for you.
I have another covid test today. I'm hoping this one is negative as I really don't want to reschedule everything again. I have a busy couple of weeks right now. I'm supposed to have a colonoscopy next week and then a nerve ablation and doctor's appointment the week after. I've already had to reschedule the nerve ablation twice. If I have to reschedule it again, I don't know if the doctor will even see me any longer. I'm hopeful.

I wish it was Friday...although at the most I'll be working one day this week-we're closed the days after thanksgiving. And then I'll know if I have covid again. Actually I'll know soon after my appointment, which is in an hour. And like a true genius, I realized last night that about 30 minutes before I took my temperature yesterday, I took 800mg ibuprofen. So my temp was probably a little higher than the reading I got. I never personally use nsaids as fever reducers but we do at work so I should have realized sooner, but luckily it wouldn't have changed the end result. I still have a slight fever but better than yesterday. I did get some work done on ornaments at least, almost finished 2, so today I'll try to finish the one that's almost done and start/maybe finish one more. Also I found out last night that my coworkers brother passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, he was in his late 50s. Not sure what happened. So if you can keep her in your thoughts/prayers/whatever, please do.
I am staying home today storm moving in about noon today and i am hurting horribly today. Woke up with IBS D as well.
I am really struggling with the pain in my ankle. Had an appt with my dr yesterday. The gout is gone the uric acid is very good, she looked at my xray from when we wondered if i broke my ankle in june and it shows its deuterating with arthritis bad. So i started with gout and the stress flared the arthritis. If it keeps up i need to see ortho and get it scraped. my pain all over is so high today and its really getting to me. My health overall my Dr said has really improved its just my blood pressure and pain levels were working on so increasing my motrin 800 mg to twice a day now.
I found a new rake for Smurfs coat. He gets brushed every day so I was surprised how much stuff this thing pulled off of him. And, he doesn't seem to mind it.
That episode with your Dad sounds really scary. I'm sorry that was something you had to deal with among other things as a kid. I hope that you are a bit more comfortable today.
No plans today. My partner just finished reworking the lawn tractor to act as a plow for the winter. He put a new belt on it, changed the tires to ones with a much deeper tread, added the plow and cab. Took him about 2 hours. Thank goodness he is handy.
I'm going to type out a couple of lists, work on laundry and that's about it. I'm pretty achy from the temperature changes. I'll do what I can and try not to worry about the rest.
PainedOne - I hope that you get a negative COVID test so you can get on with your appointments. Have a decent day.
Miki - I kind of ike Scottish folds but I love Scottish straights. They have such cute faces! A lot of purebred cats have genetic related issues. My red Aby had stage one retinal atrophy. I diagnosed him before he went to the vet for confirmation. (My ex had Retinitis Pigmentosa) He was night blind, thought shadows were holes in the floor and didn't do well with changes in the environment like moving stuff around. The breeder was horrified because this had never shown up in her bloodlines. He was the best cat ever and I never minded helping him live his life. I hope that you don't have COVID. Let us know when you have a second.
AngelaJo - You got some good news yesterday. Your health is better and that is major! I think that this new doctor has a much better handle on your situation. Now, if you can just get your BP and pain levels improved. I have arthritis in both feet. The right one is really bad so I understand how you probably feel. I hope resting today helps settle things down a bit. Hugs!
Off to consider my options for cleaning stuff up today. I want to strip the cover off of the futon and get that washed. Waves at Twin, Milily, Zombie, Wonder and Ida.
Fantod, they are adorable for sure, my big issue is knowingly breeding cats that are fairly likely to have a life full of discomfort. Any purebred animals are going to be prone to something, but breeding them for aesthetically appealing mutations at the expense of the animals quality of life is unethical, at least for me. I'm talking breathing issues in flat faced animals, heart disease in munchkin cats, a very real risk of paralysis from back injury in dachshunds, and degeneration of cartilage in 1 year old cats. Some of those genetic predispositions are not ideal but don't cause any major problems, others are severely life altering. Those are the ones I'm talking about. There are a lot of very responsible breeders out there who breed based on functionality instead of aesthetics, and who either test for the genes that cause issues or stop breeding any animal that they find to be a carrier. As a general rule, I would never get a Scottish Fold, Munchkin, Persian/Exotic Shorthair, Dachshund, Pug or English Bulldog based on the severe issues they're prone to. I'd be very cautious about researching breeders for Himalayans, German Shepherds, Corgis, chihuahuas, Boston Terriers, and anything else prone to hip dysplasia (too many to list). That's if I didn't go through a rescue obviously.
