Good morning! (There, irony.)
Irony: an outcome unexpected, not to be confused with an unwanted outcome (e.g., ALanis Morisette wailing about rain on a wedding day, which is not ironic, but just wet, unless you were getting married in the Sahara Desert)
THe first film version of Phantom of the Opera ---- was a silent movie.
Ridiculous: My life.
So.... we had a huge thunderstorm last night. And... the cats got scared. Past midnight, I'm up cuddling two scared kitties, who are certain the sky is yelling at them. See?

Do you know we're coming up on the 75th anniversary of the polio vaccine? It was discovered and credited to Jonas Salk in 1952, altho' he wasn't the only one on the job. Thanks to the polio vaccine, generations of people have gone withotu fearing polio, a disease that could leave one paralyzed, weakened, etc., if it did not do worse. OK, so it's in 2022, but I'm done with 2020! Looking ahead!
But if you think 2020's been a roller coaster, hey! 1920 was no picnic ---- recovering from a global pandemic of influenza (which mutated between its first believed appearance and the final version, as viruses like to do), and a world war, and the overthrow of the Russian tsars, and and and...
BUt... in 1920, US women got the vote, Band-Aids came out, and the NFL was formed. (Seriously, I don't get to even celebrate 100 years of NFL... Argh.) Also debuting in 1920? ... Prohibition of alcohol in the US. This law stemmed from long and vigorous campaigns by various groups, some religious, some not, to enforce a "dry" America. The result was bootleg moonshine, as opposed to the legally sold for a couple hundred years before that moonshine. Moonshine is still illegal, mostly b/c the quality control is nonexistent other than "Don't trust it if the maker don't drink it". (Where I grew up, anyway.)
Yeah, see? 1920. At least in 2020, if you want to get drunk, it's legal!
The lock company Schlage is turning 100 this year, so see? 1920. Takea way the booze, need stronger locks! (I'm joking.) Schlage derives from the German "schlagen"... to beat or hit.
Haribo candy turns 100 in 2020, too, and if you hate someone, give them sugar-free Haribo gummies. Apparently, these induce some really epic nasty GI symptoms if eaten in quantity, and who can eat one gummy bear?... Well, me, I hate the things, but you get the idea.
1920 also gave us the four-way three-color traffic light we know now. Red = stop; green = go; yellow = slow down, idiot! (to quote my mom)
So who knows what we'll see when we look back on 2020, right?

Dixie has found a way around our anti-cat safety measures on the catio. Again. ARGH. I have to go rescue an idiot in fur and on four feet, b/c hey, Hubby will just coo at her, his poor little Dixie Cup kitty. I'll be the one to get her the f*** down and safe again. And fix the breach somehow. And... Wait, why am I the one? Oh, right... Wish me luck! One stupid-as-dirt tortie rescue about to begin!
LOVE and HUGS and HEALING!

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

I am really struggling with this dang depression and pain and anxiety and not sure what else to say today :(
I'm not doing well mentally today. Yesterday I took a phone call from a guy who was not a client, but was pissed off from the start. Apparently it's "outrageous" that we don't have prices on our website. Apparently we have directions, doctor bios, etc but we left out the "most important thing", which is supposedly a horrible thing for consumers. I told him a lot of the time it depends on the specific situation because what we do for the cats depends on the cats' needs and sometimes owner preference, and that would get very confusing on the website-most people have no problem calling and asking about their situation, and we can usually give them an idea, plus we can also give them a price for services during the exam if they need. Plus we're booking 3 weeks out, consumers are obviously not avoiding us because we don't have prices for literally thousands of situations on our website. I bit my tongue to not tell him that we're not a fast food restaurant. Even so it led to a rant about the veterinary industry in general and how we're so corporate and we just want to blindside people with high prices and make it impossible for people to keep their animals because they don't know what it costs. Telling him that it's up to people to research the financial implications of pet ownership before getting one (in and out of the vet hospital) just made him rant louder. Apparently we have "too many people employed, it needs to be like the old days where there was one doctor and one tech and overhead is lower". We only have doctors and techs-no kennel people or receptionists, and his supposedly less expensive model would probably alienate people with very limited hours and they still have to lease a building and that's still expensive nowadays; the overhead honestly wouldn't be much less but what they offer would. Obviously that pissed him off too and I was literally shaking after 8 minutes of this so I said "sir, I think it's safe to say, based on this conversation, that we are not going to be a good fit for your needs. You might want to call around elsewhere to find something closer to what you're looking for". And let me tell you, this asshole went off. The. Deep. End. Actually first he agreed that he wouldn't want to come to us, but then he was literally yelling into the phone about how I had absolutely "no right to make a judgement like that about him based on 'observations' from a phone call-you're not the owner, you're not the CEO, and you have no right to speak above your pay grade like that." Yes, he really said that. Then he said that I started out nice but I became very condescending. I was done being nice at this point, I told him that yes I am nice to people but that ends when they're rude and condescending towards me and the business I work for. And yes I pointed out that he agreed with my unacceptable judgment and the above examples of him being rude and condescending, both towards the industry and me personally, and my judgment was based on the fact that he spent 8 minutes disparaging all our business practices. Then things took a turn, he started yelling about how he's trying to get legislation that vets in NH will be obligated to put prices on our websites (good luck, not gonna happen). So what did I say to end this conversation? "That's fine sir, but we're located in MA, and yes that is on our website". We do have a NH office but he called the correct one-the town the MA office is in is also a town in NH (Half the cities/towns in both states share a name, so not surprising) but the website does say we're in MA. Immediately he was nicer to me and finally got off the phone. I know I handled that conversation well, I wasn't unprofessional at any point (the doctor there agreed and the office manager said she would have hung up on him, and if the owner gets an angry email about me his language will be much more colorful than mine was), and we are allowed to essentially refuse to deal with abuse. Everyone there also agreed that out of everyone, I'm easily one of the most patient people there. But it still was a huge trigger for my depression and anxiety and that hasn't let up since. And I had to spend most of my work day pretending I was fine and making sure I didn't look like I was about to break down. Then I picked up Miki and only my dad was home, and as it turns out I really didn't have patience for his usual bullshit (unsurprisingly)...I made a quick exit once he used the n word. We're white, but that word is beyond unacceptable to me and I'm not going to stick around and listen to that. I'm still struggling with mental health this morning...plus it's raining and should be all day. It's bf's birthday on Monday and I feel bad that I want to just curl up and hide from people..
Ugh, sorry this is so long. If anyone even read this far. Waves at everyone
Angela, sometimes the best my depression lets me do is show up. Tkae the win! :-)
So, Dixie apparently wanted to go kill what she thought was prey. It was leaves movnig in the wind in a weird way b/c of the changed weather.
Leo, 2020 was supposed to be a great year. I'm bent now on making it a good one, regardless of a pandemic!
Sorry you had to rescue the furball! Zo-zo used to jump up in the rafters in the basement when she was scared. She'd craw around on top of the basement bathroom down there. No matter what we did to prevent it (short of tossing on a ceiling) she would manage to get up there.
So we turned to using food. It was her kryptonite.
Miki, when I worked customer service for the prescription benefits company, every month like clockwork, "Those" calls would come in. We would get bomb threats, we would get lawsuit threats, we would get so much baggage with each call that the callers would unload onto us.
This guy...was not seeking help. He was there to tear you down. Using a cancel culture tactics (seriously you can you tube that crap if you want a good laugh). And basically he was bullying you into giving him what he wants. So that he can then start making other changes.
Let that turd roll... Don't let this guy get to you. Honestly....when you look at your lifetime time span, he was just a speck of dirt on it. He is not worth any more of your time. So he got to you. We all have jerks who do that. Just be happy that jerk isn't in your daily life.
And next time?? Use your cell phone to dial your line and put him on hold. One, to ice him and two...if need be you can accidentally disconnect. Let someone else pick it up then.
Walk away knowing you did the best you could with an impossible situation.
Angela, I get like that too sometimes. Relish in the clean home....and rest when you can.
We're off to the state fair (food parade) today. And then being domestic and stuff. Kind of a lazy Saturday here....and I'm loving it. Going to get the boys in the pool sometime soon too.
I better run. Hope everyone has a good/better Saturday!
So, Dahlia outdid Dixie for a change. Chewed through Hubby's iPod earbud cord *while he was using it*... Oh .... mayhem.
My partner spent part of the day working on his truck again. He replaced more motor mounts. I told him flat out that now he has the truck in good shape he *must* figure out the work issue. Like this week or else....
We had more rain last night. The pool is dangerously close to over flowing. Too windy for me to be in it today. I cleaned some leaves out of it, shocked it and dumped pool cover into it. Maybe I will be able to swim tomorrow. I hope to garden tomorrow since the temps are going to be quite reasonable.
Leo - I was sorry to hear about the divorce woes that your cousin is managing. I feel his pain. My ex pretty much did the same thing to me after 21 years. Smurf can be Mr. Bitey when it come to cords. I’ve had to buy pet cord covers from Amazon for some of our stuff.
Miki - Don’t let that jack*ss ruin your whole weekend. You did your very best and there was no satisfying that guy. Try to let it go. I hope that you can get your wood burning commissions done.
AngelaJo - That was me today - the Energizer Bunny and now I’m having pretty intense nerve pain in one of my legs. I plan on showering and spending the rest of the day loafing around. I hope you can find a way to cut yourself a bit of slack. Hugs!
Wonder- I hope that you have fun at the State Fair food parade today!
Shout out to Milily, Twin, PainedOne, Ida and Zombie!
Pain, pain go away. I did yard work yesterday for a while and I am paying for it. I dug up a large hosta and one of my large daylilies . I want to plant some yellow mums I bought and put mulch down , another day though. I didnt sleep enough last night because my legs were hurting.
My son is coming over to do his laundry later and he will make brats on the grill for us for dinner.
2 of my brothers that live in different States are now coming to Michigan a week later than planned. They both are the types that change time frames a lot which drives me crazy.
Have a good Sunday.
