I get the red hot ear often. It is very uncomfortable. Sometimes my nose gets that way too. I have mentioned it to my doctors, but no one seemed to do much about it. I thought, at first it correlated with my bp, but have rules that out. Good luck with it. I haven't found anything to help thus far.

I have the burning on my forehead and the bridge of my nose. I went to a neurologist who just laughed and asked if I had read anything on fibro. I was fuming when I left there. I have since done a lot of searching to find out what the cause is but every road leads to the same answer Fibro.

I've been Googling "burning skin" a lot the last few weeks..discovered lots of causes for flushing....my face and ears burn when I try to drink wine, and when I take Vitamin b6. New doc told me my b6 too high based on lab results and to stop because it makes nerve pain worse. Had to find a b complex with no b6. I frequently burn from head to toe, like today all I did was a dr appt and 3 hours of work but am burning up... My ears are red hot, as well as cheeks, my eyes are burning...most annoying and fever just under 100 like I get after doing activity combined with not getting enough sleep. I put cold packs on which helps. Haven't even tried to describe any of that to Drs..the glaze over just hearing fibro..or go into a canned speech quoting some one thing they learned about fibro which never truly addresses the complexity of symptoms. Went to pain clinic today for first time, but the were only interested in steroid shots for my back and the only answer for fibro pain was to keep moving...( I kept telling her I was there mainly for my burning skin... Hoping to walk out with a new med or the lidocaine cream some have mentions on here..It is obvious even these "pain clinics" don't understand the multiple kinds of pain that comes with fibro. They think it is all the same pain....Not understanding the different qualities of pain. Even a physical therapist I saw a few times warned me to not to try to talk to specialists about burning skin because it confuses them so they stop listening. Your pain on one side however seems even more strange..sounds important to follow up on.

Gabapentin which is a prescribed medication may help with this issue. As I said in my earlier post, you need to see a neurologist. Take care.

Fantod: I did go see a neurologist (for really bad headaches that just started mid-Dec) and mentioned the painful burning (which also just started!). He just said it was part of getting older. WHAAA? No one person I know has this problem so I doubt it's just part of aging.

I looked up RES and was SHOCKED! How could a neuro NOT know that headaches can cause RES? Fantod, maybe YOU should be a doctor! You could get a ton of $$ AND help people. :)

BTW - You could also see a headache specialist who *may* be more have more knowledge about this issue. And, have you investigated TMJ as a possible source or contributing factor to your headaches. This is a common problem among people with Fibromyalgia. TMJ can cause migraine like headaches in terms of intensity. It will also affect your neck, upper back, shoulders, arms and balance. I hope that you can find some relief.

Hey again Fantod, You are just a fountain of knowledge. Maybe that's what the "F" in Fantod stands for? I also have TMJ and lost my very expensive mouth guard/retainer. Well, I'm SURE it's here somewhere... If I can't find it soon, I'm gonna get one of those $30 ones at CVS. They mold to your teeth and seem pretty hardy.

Does anyone else have a mouthguard? Have you noticed an increase in headaches when not using it? Ta, Nibs

LOL. I've worn a mouth guard for TMJ since the 80s. I could crush diamonds clenching. Broken more bite guards than I can count. And yes, if I don't wear mine my head and ears both bother me a lot. Keep searching...this might be an easy fix.

Hi,I was searching for another health issue when I stumbled on yours. You may want to be checked for Trigeminal Neuralgia also. I started with it and it felt like a bad earache where someone eaten up a poker and stuck it down my ear canal and down the inside of my neck. My ear would turn red sometimes. I also would get burning patches, like an exact circle, on my face, then other areas of my body. The more stress I was under the more burning. Then the TN, decided to have the burning pain come from my ear wrap around my right eye, from my ear and down my cheekbone, from my ear and down my jawbone. Then it decided to play a game and start on the left side too. I went to walk in clinic originally when I thought it was an earache, they couldn't find anything, then it eased off, followed up with primary, couldn't find anything, sent to ENT, couldn't find anything. Had an appt with my neuro for my migraines and by now, I had played Dr. GOOGLE and I asked him if this could be TN and he said absolutely. I also have luoys, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and some new stuff that's being tested now, sorry for the "new person" jumping in with the novel, but I wanted to have you check that out too, I hope it ends up being nothing for you. Hugs! I hope I can get some sleep with what little night is left and find you guys again later!

Did you mean you have lupus? Not sure what luoys is... I'm so sorry you have such a burden to carry. I think Fibro should INCLUDE the chronic fatigue and pain, don't you? I mean it's kinda in the description. Guess some old time/ignorant drs who don't BELIEVE in fibro have to call it something tho.

Sometimes my tongue burns, just like I burned it with hot food or drinks. Then, it just stops suddenly as it comes on. Weird, weird.

The human body is a wonderful and terrible thing for sure! I'm trying to get my neurologist to say if he even THINKS I might have trigeminal neuralgia. I wish he'd say without me going back in! I'd go back to see him IF and only IF he'd have new ideas. Anyone else have this revolving door of indecision and confusion (on the doctors part!). I even send them a cheat sheet ahead of going to make sure they KNOW what I"ll be asking. Sometimes it helps.
