Yes! A neurologist. He tested me for MS and when my spinal fluid didnt show bands, he said "no MS" and sent me on my way.

Yes, I have had some incredibly lousy doctors. I hope you have a primary physician who believes in your pain and refers you to another dr.

I saw a neurologist while they were still trying to dx me. They ruled out whatever they were looking for. I never heard back. He sent a list of my results to my pain dr. and that was that. (1985)

I was sent to a lot of different specialists because they need to find out if there are any other underlying conditions This is part of the process that I went through before they would dx me with fibro.

My rheumy is my primary for fibro. So is my psych dr.

BTW, none of my meds really help my 24/7 headaches.

Don't give up. Learn all you can about fibro. I'm sorry that you are having issues with your drs.

If you need meds for chronic pain, you need to see a pain management Dr.

If its not for pain try a Rheumatologist or your pcp

There are specialists specifically for headaches. And, have you ever been evaluated for TMJ? It is common among people with Fibromyalgia. You may be clenching or grinding your teeth and unaware of it. See a dental specialist for this issue. Good luck and take care.

As frustrating as your experience was, you are better off not going to that doctor. He obviously is not willing to do anything extra to help you. So, move on. I too was basically dropped by a neurologist. They told me it was all in my head and said I didn't need to come there anymore. I asked my PCP for another referral and ended up with a great neurologist that is actually interested in helping me! In fact, he is the one that noticed my elevated rheumatoid factor and sed rate. The other neuro never even bothered to look at that. Now I also see a rheumatologist who helps manage my care.

So, if you can, look at this as a blessing in disguise. You are now free to find the RIGHT doctor for you!

Yes I have had a doc drop me. I have migraine headaches and have since I was 16 years old. Nothing worked until they sent me for botox injections. If a doc drops you then it isn't someone you want in your corner anyway.

Yes quite a few times. Each new specialist tries a few things and when they fail they say they're gonna refer me to a different doctor. So annoying. They don't like it when they can't figure it out so they pawn you off on the next doctor.

Are you sure he meant to "drop" you? It's pretty common for a doc to want a second opinion when what he know to do isn't enough.

I've had doctors give up on me - so I dropped them. Nothing like sitting in a doctor's office and having them hold out their hands and say, "what do you want from me?" Two of my Kaiser docs - my primary care and my neurologist - and I only wish I could get referrals out of them! But that's another story.

Meanwhile, you have my sympathy for your struggle getting decent medical care.

I've had my PCP state: "I need to refer you to a specialist".......... It never occurred to me that she was dropping me, because I continue to see her.

I just assumed I am a difficult complicated case that needs 7 different Specialists to manage all my conditions.

I, however have dropped Doctors for various issues. Examples: doesn't care, no empathy, doesn't listen, disregards what I say, can't get a timely appointment, bad front office staff, billing issues and won't offer other solutions to try.

I had a neurologist drop me. He was so immature! He first put me on a med that wiped my memory for 4 months (I didn't even know how old I was..scary!) and went from a straight A student to flunking everything..in college!! What a waste of money!! And then he gave me a list of 4 new meds, and was like "here's a list. You pick which one you want to be on" Like seriously?! How immature! So I took the list to my doctor (because I knew not a single thing about any of the meds) and my doctor was shocked and then told me which one I should take, explaining to me each one and the one that would probably work best for me. Then I went back to my neurologist and let him know which one and he was like, "well, if your doctor told you which one, then maybe you should just see them!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Especially that a doctor would be that unprofessional. Needless to say, I never went back to that neurologist again!
