Hi guys!!
Long time huh? Well I am having a pretty serious problem. I have been doing so much online research and nothing is just right. As my subject line says I have a scary issue. My hair started breaking off in patches and little lines around the time I started a new job. This job is a very high stress one. Both physically and mentally. Well emotionally also.
I do have bipolar and my pdoc wants me to quit my job cuz I'm so sensitive and high strung. I stress out easily and get my feelings hurt too much. Well I did not listen to him cuz I actually like this job. I get paid well also. So I had this new stress of this high stress job and add to that this coworker who does not like me and shows it big time. Add to that I was not on a strong enough mood med. I had awful fights with my mom and did not visit for Thanksgiving or Christmas...something I have NEVER done in my 47 years!!
So, major stress all at the same time. I noticed a small patch on my scalp where the hair had broken off and little stubby hairs remained. It has been a month and now the patch is as big as a silver dollar and I have 2 more the size of nickels. Plus thes thin little lines here and there. I started with 2 red bumps and I now have them all over my head! Where the first red bump is, and the biggest breakage area I have headaches and throbbing and sharp pains. It itches horribly so I scratch too much. My hair is turning silver pretty fast also -- which is very uncommon for my family!
Sorry this is so long!! I promise I will work on this issue. But please I need help here! I am supposed to see a dermatologist on Friday, but y'all know how that is. Docs rarely acknowledge fibro or CFIDS. So I really don't want to pay $60 for a specialist visit. Please, if any of you have had this problem how did you solve it??? My husband is freaking out about it. I love all you guys cuz y'all are the only ones who understand all this!!! Thank you!!

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Well..my thyroid might be a problem. I have a high TSH but normal T4. TSH increases when your thyroid isn't producing enough thyroid hormones...if only the TSH is high, it could be early or subclinical. Will wait and see if they want to do anything about that or just recheck it at some point. Either it'll even out or my T4 will drop. Meanwhile it's hot and I'm working with Karen, and I have no...

Your caring, concern and support is truly appreciated. About my doctor....I am still thinking bout not going cuz the doc is a guy and they want me to also have a complete skin exam. To check for weird growths that could be skin cancer. Apparently my insurance pays for it cuz it is cheaper than paying for skin cancer treatment! So anyway, I am kinda freaked about that. I will probably go at some point but I really need to get used to that humiliating exam :-)
I'm just hoping someone here might have had the same issue. From what I have read a lot of fibro people have had it. ~~sigh~~ I just hope someone might be able to offer some solutions. Well, pain free happiness to both of you!!!

Good luck! ellie
If you don't want the exam tell them you are just there about your scalp issue period. Go and get your scalp looked at before the problem escalates. Take care.
This could be a lot of different causes. I suspect it's hormone related. But you need to be tested by a doctor at the time it's happening to capture what might be causing it all.
In addition to that, skin often becomes agitated this time of the year. Dryness, lack of sun, etc. But it could also be vitamin deficiencies or more. Hence the reason why it's important to go to the doc to try and solve the problem.
As a stylist, it's common to loose anywhere from 50 up to 100 hairs/day. Our bodies automatically regenerate that growth continually. But it's when our bodies stop regenerating growth, is when we start to notice it or when it's in an excessive amount like what you are experiencing.
If you want to know what is causing it, go in. Could be something as simple as your thyroid being out of whack. Could be something more. In the mean time a cheap and easy reconstructive conditioning agent is Real Mayo. It's packed full of proteins and oils that your hair will soak up and it will become stronger from it. Otherwise, seek out a reconstructive conditioner. "10" is a good product or you could go old school using something like "potion #9" by Sebastian. They are synthetic reconstructors and wrap your hair shaft with synthetic keratins and proteins.
Meds & chemicals (highlights/ colors/ perms) strip your hair of your natural keratin & proteins so it is important to replenish them often as they wash out every time you wash your hair. Very little remains w/in the cuticle itself.
Hope you find the answers you are seeking. Stress does play a part, but shouldn't be the sole reason for your hair/skin problems.
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this!
I've never seen anything like this related to Fibro. Any time I have seen this on a person, it has been diagnosed as a fungous. (These fungous can actually worsen with stress) They get treated with anti-fungal medicine, and after a few months, it's gone/hair grows back.
So, DON'T cancel your appointment with the Dermatologist in case that's what you do have.
Good luck, and keep us posted as to what the doc says! I'm very curious as to what it turns out to be.
I think that you would be foolish not to keep the Dermatologist appointment. You have nothing to lose, and potentially everything to gain.
In my eyes, you have two options:
-Seek an answer to this with the Dermatologist and your GP
or
-buy a really good wig and do nothing about it.
This is not fibro. I have heard of people saying its fibro and to the few that were stubborn who refused to go May they rest in peace.
You guys are so sweet to answer my post....there are some boards where you are snubbed for whatever reasons and you receive no answers.
Well, that just hurts my feelings cuz I'm so sensitive. So, anyway, I just want you all to know that your advice to me has worked, I am definitely going to see the dermatologist.
Y'all are so sweet and I will not forget it. Hopefully I can answer some of your questions sometimes!!
