I hear ya, Milily....my pain doc is the same way. I like "injections R us!" I've had 2 injections in my neck, and they did help for about 2 mos. They actually helped me all over, which was great!

Hope the injections start working for you soon. That pain doctor really needs to research bursitis and pain from bursitis. I also have bursitis in the hips and it IS painful, as well as the hips "popping" all the time.

I remember the feeling of bursitis, lik my joint was slipping when I walked. Strange feeling and painful. I went to an ortho, they took and xray, said bursitis and gave me a cortisone shot in the hip. That was several years ago but it worked and the bursitis hasnt returned yet.

The reason our bursitis is more painful is because of our fibro, fibro makes all pains feel like big pains. That dr should have realized that is what fibro does.

Bursitis can be extremely painful and extremely persistent. I have it both hips and shoulders. I've been through PT and had deep heat therapy to no avail. Its been over three years now.

You could certainly have a steroid shot but that is not recommended for people with FMS. Steroids depress the immune system which is something we don't need. And, steriods like cortisone damage the surrounding tissue with repeated use.
The Wall Street Journal did a study that found cortisone actually damaged the joints it was supposed to be helping.

Managing bursitis can be done by altering your diet. Get rid of red meat, fast food, tomato based products and anything deep fried. Eat fresh pineapple as it contains an enzyme that breaks up bursitis. If you don't like pineapple, go the the health food store and ask them for bromelain enzymes which come in tablet form. That should help.

If you can find a holistic doctor that uses Sarapin as an injected pain killer, I recommend that. It is a derivative of the pitcher plant and has no known side effects. I have had it injected in my lower back and was extremely pleased with the results. And, it can be used regularly as opposed to cortisone which can not.

hi milily, i had injections in my hip for a while and it worked for the fm as for bursitis it does hurt had in my arm id get a second opinion . i know it gets old i see alot of dr too and iam sick of them too, but us sickys need them, i wish u the best and iam hear to talk to

I tried on of those spinal epidurals. I ended up with a severe spinal migraine. I could barely function.
And of course I did this on a Friday where they were not available (not that I could speak)....but when I confronted them on this, they said, well lets do another one.

I should have gone into the ER...but it would have been too difficult with the kiddos and such. So I jut layed there in agony.

Needless to say, they just wanted to have me do another injection. This time they were bribing me with pain meds. I said no way....it wasn't worth a spinal migraine again. I walked out and never returned.

It seems to be the trend lately for pain management clinics. Injections.

I got my second shot in my back today. If I get relief from this one like I did the last one than they are worth it for me. It took about 48 hours for the pain to subside but than I actually started being able to function. I was actually able to clean the whole house which hasn't been done at one time in over a year. I normally have to break it up a little bit each day but TWICE in the last two weeks I been able to do the whole house in one day. I am praying they work as good this time.

Wonderbaby... I wouldn't right off injections all together find a GOOD doctor and you shouldn't get the spinal headache. My doctor hit the dura today (which is what causes the spinal headaches) but he told me what to do, how to get rid of the headache, and why it happened. No doctor is perfect but the good ones should have a lot less chance of hitting the dura and if they do hit it they will tell you how to take care of it to minimize the headache.

I had surgery years ago for bursitis in my left hip - it was so severe and chronic that they removed it - which is causing its own set of problems now that I'm older.

I wouldn't have put myself through that if the pain wasn't severe - don't see how doctors can get the basic stuff so wrong.

I guess it's that old "what do you call the guy who graduated last in his medical school class?"

i just had two injections yesterday in my lower back...not the spine but beside it...with the use of a scope,it hurt with the first one,but the second one was ok...he said"you feel better now?"...i said "sorry,no"..lol..the nurse said,it would hurt more first couple days,then should get relief....
i pray both ours work....i cant be up more then 5 mnts and the pains on fire...i can only manage 15 mnts up at a time...
he has me coming there for massage therapy and fitting me for a back brace...
ive got m.s. also...and steriods are a life saver if i want any relief i have to have them,orraly and injections...
but a pain clinic that doesnt prescribe pain meds?i would find another doc....i have 4 docs who all work together,my neuro/surgeon / pain managment prescribes my narcotics,i couldnt live w-out them.
i have another neuro who treats other m.s. and f.m. problems.

all working together is working for me.
i also have bursitis and arthrits,both very painful

Its been way past 48 hours and no help from the shot yet- I am getting DISCOURAGED AND IMPATIENT FOR SOME RELIEF. My Tigers are getting whomped by the Yankees- I hate the Yankees. I hope tomorrow is better.

Those spinal shots can be very dangerous! They like to give them a lot to try and avoid pain meds and tell you that the risk is like 1 percent of spinal fluid leaks. It happened to me twice. One of which required a major back surgery to repair the leaks in my spine that the shots caused. Not to mention that they have to remove parts of the spine called the lamina to repair them. It ended up being a year long of PT and recovery. And that was after suffering from debilitating headaches for 6 months. I'm sure they help a lot of people and I'm sure that not too many people develop leaks afterwards but I can tell you that there are very serious risks to those things. And from everyone I have talked to the benefits to them usually never last more then a few months. Big risk in my opinion for something that is just temporary.

I have had good luck with relief callming my SI with injections there but it has worn off b/c the underlying issues isn't healed. That said, I can now walk around inside my house enough to make uspper and keep it tidy, and that is a big improvement!

My pain doc also regards meds as a last resort.

Call your doc first thing Monday, tell him it hasn't helped yet, okay? And I hope it does kick in!
