So had a kinda rough day yesterday...my period started (5 days early, while on birth control) and I learned some things that are a little unsettling to me. Lunch with my mom was fine but she mentioned something, actually a couple things, that my dad did recently. The first is she bought a plant when she went to home depot for something else, and I guess he lost his shit. She works full time and he's semi retired, and a $12 plant is not breaking the bank. He has a tendency to fly off the handle but usually he's not like that with her or about something so ridiculous. The second is actually really ironic when you consider the first: he's...not technologically literate. He doesn't even use email, everything goes to my mom. I guess some bubble popped up on their iPad saying their bank info has been compromised and to call "Apple". My mom told him to ignore it or go to the apple store and see what they say, because none of their banking is online, and then she went to work. I guess he called the number instead and missed all the red flags (asking for his bank info, SSN, saying he doesn't need to contact his bank because they already did, and saying he needed to act on this right now) and ultimately withdrew about $10,000 and deposited it into a bitcoin machine at their insistence. My mom got home and said she couldn't even tear him a new one because he was so horrified at what he'd done (but she did comment that the $12 plant doesn't look so bad now). After they ran around changing their bank account numbers they did go to the police, but there's really nothing they can do when you willingly take the money out of the account and deposit it into a bitcoin machine, so that money is gone. They're lucky in the sense that losing it didn't completely screw them over but it's still a big hit. Also notable, we've all heard him mock people who have fallen for scams or whatever else. Hopefully he'll develop some empathy, but he's almost 69 and definitely starting to lose cognitive function so I'm not optimistic. My mom says that if she even thinks he's going to fall for something again, she's removing his name from everything financial. So she at least is on top of things and willing to make damn sure that doesn't happen again. But yeah...the decline has been evident for a while, but this is the first time something really serious has happened and as difficult as he is, I still don't want to think of losing him. Especially don't want to see him develop dementia-Alzheimers runs in the family. So all this is weighing on me.
I did find out that I have a new friend coming to my yard when I looked at the game camera though, so I'm trying to focus on him and how unbelievably cute he is. I bet more of you will agree with me that he's adorable lol (not blaming anyone, I know my opinions on opossums aren't the norm). Pretty sure he's a gray fox because he's got the shorter face-they aren't as common as red foxes here but I have seen one in the neighborhood so they're around. Hopefully I'll get a daytime shot of him sometime.

And now I need to get ready for a run. It's cold, it's early, all I want to do is sleep, but I need the endorphins. Today I work with the same Dr as Wednesday...it's a little easier because I don't have to leave to go to NH and I work with my manager instead of Karen-manager also likes to be efficient so we work well together, and she's a lot more easygoing. I feel bad complaining about the Dr because she's honestly the nicest person, it just gets frustrating working with her when we're busy (a lot of the issue is when we get very behind, which happens often with her, it's us-the techs-who get any abuse from clients...generally once the doctor finally comes in they're fine).
Also Leo posted late last night that Mr. Leo is doing better but still weak. They're preparing for the long process of getting home.

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

I’m stopping in early today. My life has just been weird since my fall.
Miki, I hope your period doesn’t cause so much pain. I feel bad for you.
The things you mentioned about your dad, do sound concerning. Especially if things run in the family. Would he be willing to be tested, or see his GP at least. This has to be so troubling for you and your mom. I’m sorry.
The fox is beautiful. I think foxes are one of the most beautiful animals in the world. Better than your opossum. :0)
Big hugs to you, lilmissy. I hope you and baby have a great day. It’s always good to see you here.
I really feel for Leo and her hubby. Just such an awful thing to have happen. I tried to post two nights ago, but I kept getting that dang error message. DS was asking me what I was trying to do, within the error message. I’m like, trying to give my friend some support and comfort. Hello? What is this place for? I was so mad.
We had a big scare with Brewer yesterday. On Tuesday. He didn’t eat his breakfast but ate supper. Was drinking. Wednesday, he didn’t eat or drink anything. Then late that evening he became a bit lethargic, and we decided to take him to the vet in the morning. In the morning he looked horrible and was not himself at all. I called the vet, and they said to take him right to the ER. That is only a mile from us, so hubby drove Brewer and I over there. First time I was really walking since my fall. The tech took him right back without me, which I understood. She brought him back out to me saying his vitals were all fine, and he seemed to be perking up. They asked if he had ingested anything weird. I said the lady who had been taking him out for potties while I was laid up, had let him eat a bunch of dirt on Monday. Long story on that, but I was so pissed at her when she told me about it. Anyway, back to Brewer in the ER. He kept improving while we were in the ER. It was so wonderful, but strange at the same time. They decided to try some bland canned dog food. He ate almost half a can! They figure he ate something in the dirt that gave him a severe tummy ache, and he was miserable and it just happened to go away at the ER. So we took him home, he ate some of his kibble, drank like crazy and by evening, was totally back to normal. When we left for the ER he couldn’t even hold up his head. I was just in tears and so afraid of losing him. So was my husband. God heard our prayers. What an ordeal.
I’m in so much pain today from yesterday. My hydrocodone will run out today. I guess my pain doctor and GP are trying to figure out who should handle my pain control until I’m healed from this fall. I’m fed up with how pain patients are treated. Am I a leper or what? Just treat my pain. I know my GP would have no problem taking care of this. But the dang pain contract sucks.
My printing and coloring is going great! I addressed all of my Christmas cards. Almost 60!
H & J are coming over tomorrow for the whole day to decorate for Christmas and make Christmas cookies. I can’t wait to see them.
Love to all.
Prayers to Leo and Mr. I am so sorry this happened on their vacation.
Please send prayers up to my former classmate/ teammate with cancer. They are ceasing chemo and switching to hospice. She's been given 3 months, but that seems optimistic. People are posting messages to her on FB.
Miki- cute visitor!
Lilmissy-- hugs to you and pets to Baby
Merry- That was scary AF. But I am familiar with the "I am all better now that we're at the vet" routine. PDs cousin lets her dog drink out of every puddle and stream . I pointed out there is toxic run off in streams and road/ car debris in puddles not to mention a crap ton of bacteria. My SIL the DR says. "OH, I didn't even think about that!" *shaking head in disbelief *My crew is discouraged from consuming those sorts of things. They think I am ridiculous. They also don't pay my vet bills so they can think what they want.
OK crew on to the next thing-- check back later!
