My cardiologist did a tilt table test on me to diagnose that in 2008.
The doc put me on metoprolol and midodrine. and I never understood this because they contradict each other. metoprolol lowers bp, and midodrine raises bp. He told me to treat it like a diabetic does for sugar. basically just check my bp and take whichever med is needed. um that didn't work! and I kept going back. finally I got sick of it . I went to a new cardiologist THIS year.. )yep took me 5-6yrs to finally change docs). The new cardiologist changed my meds, he doubled my Metoprolol dose, added thermotabs (you can buy online but I bought at pharmacy - they are for helping to stay hydrated, have to drink it with a glass of water), and as of 2 weeks ago, added Digoxin, which is kind of scary since it is for people with heart failure. I don't have heart failure that I know of... I really hope this helps! My problem is like yours, just not under control, and jumps from hi to low for no reason.
People with Fibro have problems with the autonomic nervous system (system that controls things we involuntarily like our organs and blood pressure, internal temperature) - do you sweat a lot for no reason? I do.
STay in touch with me please, let me know what your doctor does for you, diagnoses you, meds you take that work, because I also need help too trying to figure out how to live with this.
I wasn't hospitalized, but had to go to ER few times for severe dehydration (I dehydrate easily) and had to get IV fluids. not fun.
I don't have any advise for you, but just wanted to let you know you aren't alone.
I am sorry to hear that y'all are suffering from some of these same health problems. I know it's not anxiety cuz your blood pressure doesn't go up that much from anxiety. I have panic attacks and that's some serious anxiety. I have taken my BP during those and it's amazing cuz my BP is never high! You would think it would be because your heart feels horrible but your BP is fine! So, no my friends it is not anxiety. Stress is different from anxiety. I'm really not sure how but it is. I will tell y'all what happened to me today.
I was at work and I have been having trouble with this other coworker. She doesn't like me and she has made it clear to me and everyone else that she doesn't like me. She has done some horrible things to me and said some horrible things to me. I am not trying to sound like a goody two shoes but I have done absolutely nothing to her. This all has been going on for months. So my manager did not help me at all. All I sake is that I would not like to work with her. She told me that I would work with her whenever she said I would. I saw the next manager above her and told him I wanted to talk with him. Today I was told to go upstairs and talk with him and my regular manager. I felt like I was being blitzkrieged!! I seriously felt like I was under attack. I had wanted to talk to him and not her. But there it was and I had no choice so I went to talk to both of them.
Basically it was more of the same. The only difference was that he did not treat me like a criminal. He was very decent. But then again he has been with the store for 36 years. But he told me that I would have to work with her cuz that's the way the schedules were made. He and the other one said that if this girl did not tell me hi after I told her hi that would be just fine. In other words nothing was accomplished. I would really have liked it if me and that girl were in a room with that top manager and he had us talk out our differences. I really think that would work. Anyway rather talked to her as well.
In the deli I began to feel this strange calm. It was like everything was slowly rewinding. Like I was almost floating on a gentle wave moving back. Everything was very pristine looking. This was in the messy busy deli. I waited on a lady and got her her sliced meat. She was so sweet. She looked at me and smiled the whole time. For some reason she told me "everything is going to be all right" and she nodded her head at me in this sweet and encouraging way. Then I went and cleaned a slicer and told a woman I work with that I needed to go to the bathroom. She said "oh yes Tamye, take your time and get some water" cuz she knew I was dehydrated. I walked very slowly out of the whit and hazy looking deli. I opened the little gate we have and I thought, this gate opens so smoothly. Then I walked past the freezers and I thought, I wish I could keep walking past these freezers . I could not see anyone around me. And I heard every step I took. It was like heel, toe, heel, toe. My feet went clomp clomp clomp. Then I was almost at the bathroom and that's when the scary stuff happened.
I suddenly started feeling very sick. My heart started hurting and it went up to my neck area. My left shoulder hurt and it shot down my arm to my elbow. I took my BP on the pharmacy BP machine. It has a little print out after your through. My BP was 207/120. I started crying. I couldn't help it. That's the highest it had ever been. I don't remember much after that. I just remember sitting down. The pharmacy tech told me I was on the beach and she told me I was eating these fruits, black berry, pineapple, cantaloupe and honeydew. Those are EXACTLY my favorite fruits.. Then she said all those other things about relaxing that were exactly what I needed to hear.
They called my husband and that one top manager came over and two other managers came over. They were concerned. I just heard the one say that he had high blood pressure but it had never been rhar high. My husband came and they helped me walk out. Then in the truck I was closing my eyes and praying and I saw these two Amish women, I could not see their faces. They told me that it was ok to die, that dying was a part of life, that life goes on. Then I was praying The Our Father and I began to feel very calm again. Like before when I was walking out of the deli. I felt God was telling me that I was going to live. We got to my home cuz that is where I wanted to go. Inside my husband gave me an aspirin to chew. For some reason they did not give me an aspirin at the store even though I asked for one. I remember thinking it was really gross. It had a coating and I couldn't chew that part up. It was very crunchy and chalky. After a bit my BP went down. I was nearly falling all the way out the store and at my home. My husband got me in my bed and my son turned on all my fans. I took a beta blocker and rested a bit. I called my mom and she was very upset. She told me I needed to rest today and call tomorrow and set up an appointment with the top manager. A private meeting without my regular manager. She said I should tell him that I was not going to kill myself working with that manager and that girl. She said he needs to let me have another job in the store. Any job except the deli. I think she is right. My BP had gone down and now it's high again. I hope I will not die. I want to live. It's pretty scary. Anyway, that's the story. I am going to watch a Christmas movie with my husband in a minute and eat some tamales. Tamales are tasty :-) I see my doctor on Monday. I am going to tell him about you guys. I hope he can figure out how to save us. He has written a lot of journal articles and research papers. He loves doing research. We have that in common and we get along good cuz we both have a sarcastic sense of humor. Keep me in your prayers friends and I will most certainly keep you in mine.....Love to all!! Tamye
God bless

Hey neighbor!! I am in Austin. Please get a second opinion of your cardio doc. I went to one for a year while my heart rate rose to 137 resting and was told, "don't worry your pretty little head" and given Xanax by a male cardio doc, NO JOKE!!!
I went to a very knowledgeable female Cardio Doc who is the Head of the Cardiac Seton Hospital here in Austin. She did a catherization (with dye) and found Microvascular disease or aka Small Vessel Disease. It's where inflammation causes the small blood vessels to the heart to shrink and cause less blood flow to the heart. Previous to that I had an episode of a viral infection (one of the many cfids viruses), and it caused Pericarditis. It wasn't dx'd right away, but I found this Doc who was a specialist....
SHE Was my angel.
Her name is Dr. Fotini Chalias, Seton Hospital. Please go to her to et a full work up. She kept testing me to try to uncover what was going on. It took 6 months with. EKG, Ultrasound ECG, Stress ECG, Cather and other tests including most importantly extensive blood work.
WOMEN'S SYMPTOMS FOR HEART DISEASE are very mild and need to be paid attention to. I have been sent home 3 times from the ER being told from Docs, oh, 110 hr is fine and 80/50 bp is fine. Are you kidding me?
IT MAY BE something SIMPLE such as dehydration, but regardless, you need it checked out by a specialist who also knows you have fibro. Dr. Chalkias worked with my GP in tandem to figure it out. She's awesome!! If it's nothing, she'll tell you right away. Let me know what you decide.
p.s. high bp or high hr can suggest ischemia. I also talked to someone at Cleveland Clinic, told them my history, and they told me I had a good cardio doc, agreed with DX and she was giving me good treatment for it.
Please read this:

PLEASE GO GET TESTED ASAP. A Chest CT with Dye will show if the Heart Muscle was damaged. Those were classic Heart Attack symptoms. I know because I have angina on a regular basis (read my full story in the CHD group). BUT before you do:
PLEASE GO TO THE E.R. OR CARDIO DOC AND TELL THEM EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED. Stress is the major cause of heart attack. There must be something going on.
I did promise to give you the links to info about Fibro and Dysautonomia( Autonomic nervous system dysfunction).

You need to go to the doctor my father just had a mild heart attack. You really need to go to the doctor. Please.
well, I sure do appreciate all of y'all's concern and great advice! Currently I am laying in bed. I am resting after a day spent with my husband. We went to eat at Opal Divines and I had hand made onion rings that we split, sauted veggies, garlic mashed potatoes and stree corn on the cob (cheese and Parmesan on it). I also had two fresh watermelon margaritas with Serrano pepper juice in it. They wer so good! Then we went to Whole Foods. We bought some healthy foods to eat at home (jp knows about this ;-) like couscous salad, rice with black eyed peas, borracho beans (drunk beans), spicy watermelon salad, Thai noodle salad and some regular stuff for our kids. Oh yeah! Some tasty green falafela. Also bought some salt pork for some pinto beans this week and some mustard with Tabasco sauce. That's it! They don't call it "Whole Paycheck" for no reason ;-)
So I need to rest now. My BP is high again and I just got through watching some of those "Go Red" YouTube things. They are pretty scary. I will write more tomorrow after I see the doctor. Please never forget, you guys are the BEST!! I'm getting more support from y'all than my husband and my mom. They are both Aries and they both think if they don't talk about something it will just magically disappear. I guess that's how they survive. My sons also refuse to say anything. I'm pretty glad about that cuz I don't want them getting scared.
I will write more tommoro though. Love to all!!
