Fibro specialists?

When I asked around in my community if there were any Doctors specializing in Fibromyalgia every one suggest pain management. or the one rhemeotologist that is in our area (2 hr drive from here, the neurologists is 4 hours, havent made that appointment yet, no one wants to drive me that far) Ive found there are no specialists in my area and most Dr's here are at least 10 years behind in fibro knowledge. So I need to know where in the world i can find the drs I need. I want referrals from you guys!!! Im willing to consider relocation at this point.. i would be ecstatic if someone says theres a n institute that specializes or something...serioulsy where in the US (prefreably) are the best fibro specialists??? Im currently on a tiny island at sea practically coastal NC

These days, Neurologists seem to have taken over for Rheumys to see Fibromyalgia patients. I see a pain management specialist largely because I have some serious underlying problems too. My Internist who is a marvel and very well read manages everything and sends me out for consults as needed.

I think that your best bet would be to find the nearest university hospital and see if they have someone with an interest in Fibromyalgia. Good luck with your search!

hmm University Hospital does sound like the right direction. Where do I find one? lol I am in a tiny town....I think the nearest one may be where the neurologist was Medicaid wanted to send me to...its about 4 and a half hours from me...and thats a lot to someone with out a car or driver...hmmmm so I should maybe try asking around about the nearest university hospital. Drat the Hospital my daughter was born at was wonderful SUNY, Stony Brook University Long Island..but that was a different life time We cant afford to live on Long Island again.

yes thats the one, its aprox 4 hours from me and that is nearly impossible in my current situation. I will certainly look over thier web sight. I have been doing more research and finding a lot of people are leaning n diet to lower symptoms that are not pain related. Thank you so much for the help and support. I really was beginning to see no light..if you know what I mean

You might want to call Duke and ask for a patient advocate. They might be aware of a program or help to get you there. Can't hurt to ask!

Portland has OHSU and some knowledgeable fibro specialists there. Google them.

I hope you find some place suitable. I was also going to suggest Duke. If you are willing to relocate. it would cut down on the commute time. Since it is a college town, they may have a number of transportation options.
