Dear fellow fibro friends,
I am wondering if any of you have had any issues with alcohol. This is a embarrassing but I have been wanting to drink alcohol more often. It seems expecially true when I have a social event I need to attend - even my family functions. I am wondering if it lessens the anxiety but it's not good in the long run because then I end up acting "tipsy" and upset my family.
Any thoughts about this issue would be so helpful. Blessings to all !!!

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Furthermore, and I did this in a controll laboratory study I ran, thanks, alcohol is broken down in the body into *toxins*. You have heard about formaldehyde for embalming, right? A close relative of it is what your body makes out of ethyl alcohol (that's what we drink). Aldehydes are used to produce commecially... resins, plasticizing agents, and fragrances, and detergents. So that's what alcohol breaks down to in your body... part of a class of organic chemicals that can do all that. And, of course, as I mentioned, formaldehyde is for embalming.
ETHANOL (drinking booze) breaks down into a fun compound known as "acetaldehyde". It's a carcinogen, and is used as a precurose in chemical reactions to make adhesives. While your body can break that down further into harmless compounds.... your liver has to produce the enzymes in sufficient quantity to do that, and if it can't? Well, you get stuck with a toxin floating around in there.
Now, granted, that's a case where you're drinking quite a bit, but everyone has varied tolerance, and mor eot the point, if you are on any medications, alcohol will impair the medication's effect or possibly amplify it. Either way, you're playing a hell of a dice game if you're on meds.
Consult your medical doctor.
I can't speak to the effects personally. I've studied them, but addictionruns in my family and I don't drink. What I don't start, I don't have to stop. Nor worry about consequences.
BLessings and good luck.
Hope you are having a good Monday !! Blessings !!
I'm sorry you are struggling with this issue. Self medicating is really not the answer. I hope that you can get a better handle on your pain issues. Take care.
